The document specifies the related operations (data export) from Petrel and
SimON application (data import), including the data transfer about geological, fault,
well trajectory data. The procedures are described below:
1. Geology Model
1.1 Geology Model Export
1) Open the Petrel modeling software, select the “Models” interface on the left side
of the window. Right click a case named as “3D grid”, and select “Export”:
2) Select the export format as “Generic ECLIPSE style (ASCII) grid geometry and
properties (*.GRDECL)

3) Select the export properties and settings (export settings: “Local coordinate
system” or “Global coordinate system”):

1.2 Geology Model Import
1) Open the SimON module, create a new case. Click the “Petrel Model” button
under the “Pre-processing” tab.
2) Then, map the key fields between the Petrel model and the SimON default fields.
Delete or manually delete the unidentified key fields.
Click the “OK” button.

The user can modify the model data in the interface. Click the property window
on the right side to modify data, input the model modification range. The operations
include add, subtract, multiply, division, and equal.

2. Fault Data
2.1 Fault Data Export
1) Open the Petrel modeling software, select the “Model” interface on the left side.
Right click the “Faults” under the case “3D grid”, and select “Export”.
2) Select the export model format as “ECLIPSE fault data (ASCII).

2.2 Fault Data Import
1) Open the “Pre-processing” function, click the “Fault Data” in the menu. Then,
select the file that needs to be imported.
The user can modify the fault transfer coefficient (the default value is 1. The
software can automatically calculate the fault transfer coefficient based on
stratigraphic dislocation.).

3. Well Trajectory Data
3.1 Well Trajectory Data Export
1) Open the Petrel modeling software, select the “Models” interface on the left side.
Right click the case “3D grid” and click “Export”.
2) Select the export model format as “ECLIPSE well connection data (ASCII)”.
3) Click “Advanced”, select the “Global coordinate system”.

3.2 Well Trajectory Data Export
1) Open the “Pre-processing” function, click the “Well Data Processor” under the
“Operation” menu.
2) The well definition data does not need to be input. Right click the “Well Track”,
select “Import Petrel Data”, as shown in the figure below. Select the Petrel trajectory
data file that needs to be imported. Double click the trajectory data file or click to
open it. The module will generate the well definition (well location) data
automatically.
3) Completion data: input the completion data in the “Well Data Processor”
interface or modify the data in Excel and paste it onto the interface. The bottom MD

is the MD for the completion data.
Click “OK”, the module will return to the pre-processing interface and generate
the well definition and completion data (numerical model gird data) for the production
model.

4) The production data and injection data: the user can input the data in the interface
manually, or download the data from the database, or modify the data in the Excel and
paste it onto the interface.
