The “Heartbeat” of Serving the Children of the World
March is here and with it comes a season of service. Over the next few
months our club will be busy with Pancake Days, Kidfest, Friday Fest,
Concession Stands, Adopt A Highway, Adopt A Yard, and a multitude
of other service projects. Let us all dedicate ourselves to working these
projects and letting the community know that Kiwanis is here to serve.
It is my pleasure to announce that our club membership has grown to
100 members so far this year, and I wish to sincerely thank all the
sponsors who have brought new members this year. Keep up the good
work, and remember..... sell those Pancake Tickets!
President Jerry Sowell
“Foster Parents needed………….”
Kasey Peek is a new member of the Kiwanis club, who recently moved to Panama City from Dothan Alabama. Kasey is employed with Life Management Center as their Foster Parent Recruitment/Retention Specialist. She works within circuit 14, which is comprised of 6 counties: Bay, Gulf, Jackson, Calhoun, Washington and Holmes Counties. They currently have 62 foster homes and around 125 beds within these counties. Right now there are 84 kids that have been placed outside of their Bay County home area, and also 43 children that have been placed outside of the six county
Pancake Days are here again……….. For 56 years this has been our major source of funding and the tradition continues. April 4 - 6 are the dates and everyone is expected to help. Our profit comes from pre-selling those tickets and the fun is during the event. This is a great time to meet and socialize within our community. So get out there and sell tickets, sign up to work, and have fun. See you there!
Did You Know..? From 1915 to 1919, the organization of new
Kiwanis clubs was managed by a professional
organizer, Allen Browne, who can be credited
with creating Kiwanis. In return for building
new clubs, he received a portion of every new
membership fee. This arrangement led to
increasing controversy about the purpose and
control of the organization. The problem was
solved when Kiwanis International “bought
itself” from Browne at the 1919 convention in
Birmingham, Alabama. Club delegates raised US$17,500 on the convention floor to purchase
Browne's rights to the Kiwanis name and
organization.
What is Kiwanis………………?

changing the world one child and
one community at a time”

region of circuit 14 due to lack of foster homes to put them in. Bay County has one of the highest removal rates in the state of Florida. Last year 108 children were initially removed from their homes in Bay County and there just are not enough foster parents to meet the demand. The goal of the Foster Parent program is to provide safe and nurturing, temporary homes for children who are removed from their residence because of abuse, neglect or abandonment. Kiwanis One Day
April 6 this year—is a day of service, involving members of all Kiwanis-family clubs in communities all over the world. Plan to do something with our Kiwanis family on this day. Skip a meal, help a child
Each April, the Skip-A-Meal program offers Kiwanis clubs a fun way to give to the Kiwanis International Foundation. Kiwanians go without one meal—or bring their own—during a club meeting or event. Then they give the amount they didn’t spend to our foundation. Some of us could benefit from skipping a meal.
