An all encompassing 10 sessions course which will include: Mixing,
Scratching, Blending, Music Theory & Business and Finance.
Due to an overwhelming demand, we will begin classes in Fall 2013!!!
Classes will be taught by accredited college professors as well as industry
professionals like Q-Tip, Talib Kweli, Statik Selektah & Afrika Bambaataa.
Courses will be offered at the City College of New York and The Schom-
burg Center.

Recently, The Heavy Sound™ was awarded the privilege of introducing to the mainstream – a premiere screening, and directorial
debut, to honor music icons A Tribe Called Quest – the documentary entitled “BEATS, RHYMES & LIFE, the travels of A Tribe Called
Quest”. This highly-anticipated auto-biographical film has been over two years in the making and garners the support of Hollywood
and the Music Industry’s most notable players.

and established artists, deejays and musicians, is introducing a DJ
Workshop.
With this course you will learn from music's icons and in two locations.
The description entails, equipment and the function of eachmachine.
Utilizing effective scratching, timing, operating Serato, Traktor Scratch
Pro, CDJ's and vinyl mixing consoles. Learning, reading and under-
standing agreements and contracts cultivating and capitalizing on
funding to be lucrative. Having a manager, understanding their
functions, copywriting your logo and building your brand.

ONESESSION
HISTORY OF THE DJ
Learning how this art form was started, you will be given the history
of the pioneers through a short film. A guest speaker continuing the
dialogue where the film leaves off. You will be given direction on the
gear you will be using and their functions. You will also be
introduced to learning how to be a business owner.

SOFTWARE DRUM MACHINE MIXERS
You will learn basic music theory, song structure, fundamentals of
Abelton live software giving you a broad spectrum of the different
mediums used to play music. Lessons in analog vs. digital era, calculat-
ing BPM's (beats per minute), warping and time stretching, multi-track-
ing, beat structure, plug-ins and effects and why it's critical in keeping
the momentum going.

This class will be dedicated to learning the business side that's
important to your financial success. You will learn how to read
requests, negotiate contracts and agreements. What management
functions should entail. The importance of having an entertainment
attorney available . You will learn to understand the importance of
saving and having a financial advisor.

This session will touch on the different classifications of music. You
will learn how to blend music using different genres. Styles of
scratches like stab, chirp, transform, flare and other patterns will be
in detail. Utilizing basic turntables techniques like looping and
drumming, beat juggling, timing, syncopation, and combinations
will be taught. You will also learn how to market and brand building
yourself.

This will be an accelerated session on marketing yourself and your
craft. Utilizing social media like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, etc.

BUILDING YOUR MUSIC LIBRARY // ADVANCED MIXING
Knowing how and what to look for when troubleshooting. Learning
frequency channels for the microphone and monitors also patching
(plug-ins) wires correctly. Being certain your gear is functioning
properly before a performance.
