The Hemingways’
The History…Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway emerged as
designers in the 1980’s. They had humble
beginnings, selling clothes on a stall at Camden
Market. In 1982, realising that there was a gap in the
clothing market, they set up and nurtured the daringly
different fashion company Red or Dead.

Alternative fashion…
New beginnings…As self confessed non-conformists, the duo
tackled moral issues through fashion and sent
models of all shapes, sizes, ages and
cultures down the catwalk over 21
consecutive seasons.
Red or Dead also won the British Fashion
Council’s Streetstyle Designer of the Year
Award three years in a row.
Wayne and Gerardine sold Red or Dead in a
multi-million pound deal and in 1999 set up
Hemingway Design.
Hemingway Design
Not content with taking designer fashion to the
masses and breaking down the elitism of the
fashion industry, Wayne and Gerardine set
themselves the challenge of creating affordable
solutions across all areas of design, and with a
view to improving society as a whole.
