She checked in on me to be sure that I was okay, and let me know that she was only a phone call away. Many thanks to Louise for her loving nurture during my time of need. Thank you all for being a loving and supportive church family. Please continue to keep me in prayer for pain management and for healing. I have a long road ahead of me (the surgeon said up to 6 months for healing) and I do appreciate all your prayers and your support. them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’”

Matthew 25:34-40 (NRSV)

Thank you to everyone who has been lifting me up in prayer the last two weeks. For those who did

not hear the news, my minor shoulder surgery became more extensive than anticipated when the surgeon

found a tear in my rotator cuff; which means that the recovery is likewise much more extensive. Instead of 3

to 5 days in a sling, I will be 6 full weeks in a sling, after which time I will be in physical therapy for 6 more

weeks. So I do ask for your patience with me during this time of incapacity. Of course, you will see me

every Sunday in the pulpit, and I will try to be in the office most mornings as usual, Mon-Thurs.

Rick Wrisley will be assisting in worship on Sunday mornings. Most of you know that he is

undertaking the course of study to become a Certified Lay Minister. As such, we are to be giving him ample

opportunities to hone his skills. I am thrilled that Rick has heard God’s call to move forward in ministry, I am

only sad that we will not see the full fruition of his work, as the Wrisleys will be moving before the end of

the year.

I want to thank the congregation for the lovely flowers and plant. Thank you to all the angels of

mercy who delivered meals for my first week of recuperation. Thank you for the plethora of cards I have

received to cheer me up! Thank you to Scott Schwebel for providing pastoral coverage during my vacation,

and for Scott and Nick Hiser for skillfully stepping into the pulpit the two Sundays I was on vacation. And a

special thank you to Louise Zalucki for being a noble Lay Leader. Not only did she conduct the worship

services while I was on vacation, she drove her dear pastor home from surgery, provided care for her that

day and made sure that I had meals every day for my first week. She checked in on me to be sure that I was

okay, and let me know that she was only a phone call away. Many thanks to Louise for her loving nurture

during my time of need.

Thank you all for being a loving and supportive church family. Please continue to keep me in prayer

for pain management and for healing. I have a long road ahead of me (the surgeon said up to 6 months for

healing) and I do appreciate all your prayers and your support. I am so very blessed to serve the good

people of St. Paul’s UMC in Warrington!

St. Paul’s Preschool News…

September 2015

Well, here we are in the lazy, hot, steamy days of late August but things are not laid back at St. Paul’s Preschool!! This is a busy place! My teachers have already had their summer meeting and are busy

making plans for the beginning of school. Extended Care officially starts on August 31st this year. The floors have been waxed and furniture and equipment cleaned and readied for that first day. The office

has been busy keeping up with the paperwork required at the beginning of school. They are also getting ready for our annual state inspection. Preschool classes don’t start until the week after Labor Day, which is late this year, so they have a little more time to prepare. It is always exciting to see my

old friends in new classes with new teachers and meet the new friends coming for the first time.

During the summer we had 7 wonderful weeks of camp. One week we explored all kinds of transportation and ended the week with a trike-a-thon for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Because of the

weather, it became a walk-a-thon but we still raised $410 for that good cause. We have used our imaginations to create puppet shows, traveled to faraway places, gone to the rain forest, the barnyard

and celebrated the USA. The last week found us on the boardwalk! Wow! What fun it has been.

Did you know that there are going to be some changes on the playground? We will have a designated area to dig with both shovels and trucks. There are also two new “villages” where my friends can do

some dramatic play. Shall we go to the house, or the bakery, or the toy store today? Hopefully those changes will be in place, along with more mulch, before the year starts.

I hope you enjoy these last few warm weeks of summer.

Have fun in the sun… and remember your sunscreen!

Hugs and kisses from Paul. E. Bear

MISSION PROJECT FOR A WOMAN'S PLACE IN DOYLESTOWN St. Paul's has partnered with A Woman's Place, a sanctuary for abused

women and their children, to make Busy Bags for the children living there. Sometimes the children need to leave their homes so quickly that they are

without their toys and things to do. We are beginning to collect small gifts for children under 12 years old to fill this void. Please join in this venture and contribute a

small item or two to the Busy Bag Collection Box on the table in the Narthex near the front window. Jump ropes, yoyos, glider planes, toy cars, crayons,

coloring books, journals, brownie mixes, school supplies, etc. are easily available at a dollar store in the area. Look for a sample of items by the box and help us share our love in this way with others in need. We will provide these bags to the

children in September. Why not pick up a few items while you're shopping!

St. Paul’s has an Endowment Fund that assures the perpetuity of the Church.

Our current balance is about $30,000 from your generosity. Anything over $25,000

can be used by the Trustees for a strong need for our building. Please remember the

Endowment Fund when you want to honor or memorialize a good friend or loved one.

It is a gift that goes on giving that our Church might be sustained in the future.

The Endowment Committee sponsored the series in the winter about Life and Death

Issues and may offer another topic soon.

Interested in being our new

Flower Coordinator? Please email the church office and we’ll let you know details...

The ideas are flowing and planning is beginning for

the 50th Anniversary of St. Paul's at this site. It will be 50 years on June 26, 2016 so we are hoping for

some exciting ideas for the celebration! Put on your thinking caps and give us a written memory of

something that is significant for you about St. Paul's! Each month in our newsletter, we'll publish one or more of these special memories during the year leading up to our

Anniversary date in 2016. Please take the time to write your memory and give it to the Church Office or look for

the basket in the Narthex!

Groundbreaking for our building took place on October 31, 1965, so we are planning a commemoration by planting a tree on

Sunday, November 1 following worship. Mark your calendars now so you will be a part of this celebration.

The Ministry in Motion group for the Anniversary is helping a Core Committee at this point. We are in need of addresses/email addresses

for any former members of St. Paul's so they can be invited during the month of June 2016 with various themes happening

each Sunday leading up to June 26. Former Pastors and their wives will also be invited as well as former music directors, assistants

and interns. Please share address information ASAP with Judy Snyder at [email protected] or 215.343.2676.

Thanks so much for helping in this way to make this a grand Anniversary for St. Paul's!

50th Anniversary of St. Paul's...

When Rev. Dave Loughery suggested a cookbook as one of the ways to celebrate our 25th Anniversary it sounded like a daunting task. But, when Georgia Ford said she would co-chair with me, and Janet Barci, April Behrens, Lynne Kingsley, Norman Neilson, Helena Sauers, Ruth Schubert, Pat Strang, Robyn Wolgenmuth, and Betty Woods said they’d be a part of the committee, we moved forward. The committee listed things they would like to see in the cookbook and we chose a company to publish it. Jean Weber wrote a St. Paul’s history, and Paul Anderson, Paul Barci, Leo Hansell, Patty Hogan, B.J. Jacobus, John McElwee, Sr., Greg Nickett, Hugh Nguyen, Noni Perry, Andrea Redford, Ruth Schubert and Robyn Wolgenmuth served as artists for the book. Many hours were spent collecting recipes from church members, friends, and co-workers. After reading and editing them, arranging them in categories, and fitting them to pages, we arrived at 382 pages. We also used the icons from our church name tags as page fillers. In addition, we included menus and recipes from the church gourmet group and from our Founder’s Day Picnic of that year. The cookbook was an accomplishment of which we’re most proud, and we sold out of cookbooks and cookbook holders in about two months. I’m including a favorite recipe of mine below. Also, I’m putting my well used book in the Narthex for everyone to look through it, and if you would like a copy of any recipe just complete a form from the basket and I will be happy to make a copy for you. Looking forward to many more Memory Articles in our newsletter,

Editorial Page by a Church Member…

Thanks to Andy & Melissa for writing an article for our new editorial page. We would encourage members of our congregation to submit articles to the church office for future issues...

For us, the Ministry in Motion meetings have been a source of hope. The way we see it, we are just a group of normal everyday people trying to do something to not just bring people into our church, but to bring people back to God. Back to right and truth in an upside down world. Back to having God as the center of everything we do. As long as we continue in His direction, St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Warrington is just the beginning.

In a world where evil seems to reign, our St. Paul's Summer Picnic was amazing. Everybody came together, first in worship, then to share amazing food and fellowship. We need to keep that sense of family and community going and even expand it to the surrounding neighborhood. People are tired. They are tired of how this country currently is and they want their homes and country back.

These days, people seem to cater to those few who show up occasionally here and there...like Easter and Christmas in the church. Sure, maybe we could bend over backwards for them but would it really change anything? Would it really bring them in more? We need to focus on those who show up every Sunday they possibly can, to get re-energized to face this world for another week. In a world full of "choices", we need to go back to making church, and even more so God, a priority. With a quarter of our generation killed off before birth due to "choice", everyone that is still here needs to step up and speak up for what is right. Until then, nothing we do here will work. People in the community need to be inspired to get themselves back to church. Like it or not, it's the truth. We need to stop being a country of "me's" and get back to being a country of God. With St. Paul's as that light, those occasional visitors will be so drawn to the light, they won't want to leave...just ask Andy.

Recent articles1,2 have brought to light the tide turning away from contemporary services and back toward traditional. People are longing for tradition. Longing for a place to call home. Longing for good to be good and evil to be called evil once again.

At a past meeting, it had been mentioned this shift from contemporary to traditional may be due to many people not listening to their parents, but instead doing the opposite.

That may be true for a lot of people or it might not. But some of us strongly embrace how our parents raised us and their values. We see them so quickly slipping away as our country deteriorates along with those values. Some people don't understand until "life" happens and they need that rock to keep them from falling. Luckily, I met life early, learning not to take anything for granted as well as the cost of freedom first hand. With that and the knowledge of the preciousness of life, desire for right and truth imparted by my parents, and our desire to raise our future kids in a free and good America, we are dedicated to opposing those doing their best to destroy it.

People are standing up around the world for their beliefs and not backing down, no matter what the cost. Christians are standing, daring to deny Islam in the Middle East and being tortured and murdered for it through crucifixion, fire, beheading, drowning, and most recently being forced to kneel on buried explosives as they wait for their end here on earth. Here in America, recent videos have shown the sickening truth that those "hateful" pro-lifers have been trying to stop since the legal murder of over 57 million unborn began in 1973. We saw the mutilation of our most innocent by those who callously sell their parts so they can "buy a Lamborgini", all paid for by our tax dollars.

The rights of Christian business owners dedicated to staying true to their beliefs are being eroded while others can deny the same services to Christians with no consequence. In this world of hypocrisy, the church needs to be that rock. That home. That truth. God's truth. Sure, there are a handful of people in Washington that are standing and fighting for us, but they need backup. They're called “wacko birds” and crazy when they challenge those trying so hard to hold onto the power they think they have on us. But we, as churches, need to be the solid foundation people are drawn to when they have nothing left, when their world caves in and they don't know what to do...but to look up. When they want to escape the craziness of this world, we need to be the light for them to turn to for the truth they so desperately long for.

Please join us at these Ministry in Motion meetings to stand and help keep all of us on the right path, on God's path. Each and every one of us has hopes and dreams, for now and the future. Join us and, as that Sunday showed, we can turn them into a reality. A simple picnic has solidified for us, that bringing the America we know and love back will happen in our own communities. It did that Sunday. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making this happen. Thank you to Chef Stephen and to everybody who made the day so special. We couldn't have done it without you and are truly blessed to be a part of this St. Paul's family with you. Thank you and God bless.

Sincerely, Andy & Melissa Chapman
