Congratulations to all our volunteers who helped us achieve this recog- nition. For those students that took Cindy’s Butterfly class, we had a fun time learning how to paint many types of butterflies. Cindy made the butterfly design go on so easy by having us draw the design on first then painting the black over it. They came out great. PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Ahhhh! Finally, September...as summer fades away I know Fall is just around the corner. I will not be missing this hot humid weather in the least but will be looking forward to cooler days and nights. I am ready for displaying my Fall painted pieces, wreaths and buying pumpkins.

We have two events for your September calendar - Sandy Garcia is teaching a Rogaland design on a paddle board on the 12th and ‘Mystery Paint In’ is on the 19th. The design Sandy is going to teach looks chal-lenging, but Sandy will guide us step by step to make it all come to-gether. This will be her first Zoom class teaching so let’s root her on.

If you had a chance to come to the mobile home park on Sat Aug 15 it was fun seeing all of you. The MPI committee had your ‘mystery bags’ ready for pickup along with raffle ticket sales. A great coordination by the committee chairs coming up with a way to get your supplies to you and give you a chance to get into that wonderful raffle. Both September events will be something to look forward to.

You should have gotten your Ways and Means tickets in the mail a few weeks ago. There are three beautiful pieces painted by your fellow members to choose from. This money goes back to you as members to help defray the costs of events like MPI, Christmas party and future seminars and gives you the opportunity to win one of the three pieces offered. Help support your chapter and mail those tickets back to Sandy Garcia.

We received an SDP Chapter Achievement for 2019. Yeah!!! To get this award for your chapter it in-volves contributions from the Board positions and committee chairs. From the treasurer paperwork, mem-bership drive, Del Mar Fair, charity events, fundraising and activities that promote decorative painting- all con-tribute to getting this achievement. Congratulations to all our volunteers who helped us achieve this recog-nition.

For those students that took Cindy’s Butterfly class, we had a fun time learning how to paint many types of butterflies. I painted the design on a bird house and when using the Neon colors, it really made the wings pop. Cindy made the butterfly design go on so easy by having us draw the design on first then painting the black over it. They came out great. Thanks Cindy for teaching us these techniques and you did great on your first Zoom class. Thank you, Leslie for hosting this class at your house and Linda S. for your monitoring skills.

NEWS from 1st Vice Presidents (Programs)

Cindy Smith’s beautiful rendition of a color wheel designed on a paint pallet with butterflies was a great project for our chapter. Thank you, Cindy, for your great instructions, helpful information you gave during the lesson, and your gentle teaching technique, it was a great day! Sandy’s class is barreling towards us with excitement and anticipation. Note, this is not a stroke piece even though it may appear to be. Sandy is a great teacher and she is confident all will have a great day. So, if you haven’t signed up please hurry, we only have one spot left! The paddle available from Smooth Cut BD-8616”x10”x3/4”. Or any sur-face that will support the pattern will work. MPI is also this month, check out the updates from the committee. October line drawings are available for those who wish to sign up, just send Debi Stivers your check. Janet’s piece is on a pumpkin shaped 11”x14 ½” available from Creative Arts Lifestyle or a surface of your choice. The original sur-face used by designer Holly Hanley is at Pinecraft Inc. (see page 2 for links). Sign up soon. November is also on the horizon. Lori’s California Quail piece is a great way to end this year. This piece is painted on a piece of live edge wood slice available at hobby stores, but it is beautiful on a stone surface too. Prep instruc-tions are available after you sign up.

Seminar news: Be sure to mark your calendars for the first weekend in June, the 5th & 6th, for the Rosemary West seminar, hopefully we will be able to proceed with that date. Linda has the O’s boxes we or-dered, and they are $30 each. We would like to have all the boxes sold before the end of the year for booking purposes. Just send your check to Debi Stivers and we will put your name on a box and hopefully get it to you soon.

Anatomy of a ZOOM Class

Thanks to Charlotte H. for taking these photos of her screen during Cindy’s class. This is how “up-close and clearly” you can see what the teacher is painting in a ZOOM class. There is no background noise and you can turn it up as loudly as you need to. If you are still on the fence about ZOOM classes, let us know and we’ll help you get started!!

MORE Busy Bees during the Pandemic

Sandy Garcia painted these Willow Wolfe Birds in OILS!

Debi Stivers painted Linda Sharp’s Tropical Fantasy on a clipboard

Carol Voyles painted this adorable-critter nesting in autumn leaves on a little teapot

Ramona Jacobs did this darling Shara Reiner stool in a ZOOM class with the Illinois Heartland Chapter

Busy Debi Stivers paint-ed this color-ful Hallow-een hanging with Lisbeth Stull in a ZOOM class

Shirley McDonald is seeing double with these 2 cute Sandy Strecker boxes!

September marks the beginning of autumn in the northern hemisphere (and the start of spring in the southern). The au-tumn equinox takes place on September 22nd.

September has three birth flowers: the forget-me-not, repre-senting love and memories, the morning glory, representing unrequited love and the aster, also representing love. The birthstone for the month is the sapphire.

Labor Day is the most well known holiday in September, ob-served every year on the first Monday in September.

Grandparent’s Day is observed in the United States on the first Sunday after Labor Day.

September 5th we celebrate National Cheese Pizza Day.

September 9th is National Teddy Bear Day.

September 19th is International “Talk Like a Pirate Day”

Three significant days in the history of the United States are:

September 5, 1774: The 1st Continental Congress was called to order. Comprised of delegates from all 13 American colonies, it served as the governing body during the American Revolution, from 1774 to 1789.

September 22, 1862: President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which ended slavery in the territories held by the Confederacy, effective January 1, 1863. In spite of the ruling, the Civil War would not end for another year and a half after that.

September 11, 2001, hijackers overtook four airliners as part of a series of coordinated attacks against targets in the United States. The Twin Towers in New York City were hit by one plane each, while another plane crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. The fourth plane is thought to have been headed for the White House, but passengers overtook the hijackers and the plane crashed into a field in rural Pennsylvania. More than 3,000 people lost their lives during what the deadliest terror attack on U.S. soil to date. Property and infrastructure damage amounted to over $10 billion.

Lorean Weng celebrates her September 12th birthday with sing-ers Barry White and Jennifer Hudson. Patti Wolinski celebrates her September 15th birthday with di-rector Oliver Stone and actor Tommy Lee Jones. Ramona Jacobs celebrates her September 17th birthday with Anne Bancroft who won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Annie Sullivan, teacher of Helen Kellar and of course Mrs. Robinson of The Graduate fame. Sheila Elliott celebrates her September 26th birthday with Serena Williams and Olivia Newton-John.

It’s that time of year again! Our biggest fundraiser and a chance to win an amazing hand painted item.

Within the next couple of weeks, you will be receiving a packet that includes 20 raffle tickets. We ask that each member either sell or purchases the raffle tickets. The funds raised from this event will go to helping with our Mystery Paint-in, Seminars, Christmas Party and other events to keep Palomar Heritage Painters fun and educational for our members.

Here’s how it works:

1. Put your name, phone number on each ticket.

2. Indicate which pieces (s) you are interested in winning and your tickets will be placed accordingly. (If you do not choose a particular piece, your tickets will be divided between the three pieces being offered.)

3. Return the tickets and money to:

Sandy Garcia 29040 Miller Road

Valley Center, CA 92082

4. The drawing will be held at our October, 2020 Paint-In. You do not need to be present to win.

Ways and Means Stacking Tables

This month we are highlighting our Ways and Means pieces to be raffled off. The three nesting tables were painted by Sue Bond and Ramona Jacobs. The design is by Helan Bar-rick.

These nesting tables would make a gorgeous addition to any home. They measure 15 x 11 inches and are 19 inches tall. The theme of the three tables is Nursery Rhymes and feature Jack and Jill, The Three Little Pigs, and Little Red Riding Hood. The big bad wolf is also present and ready to pounce!

2020 Ways and Means End Table

The End Table was painted by Susan Schoeppner. The design is by Rosemary West.

This End Table is a compilation of multiple Rosemary West Designs using her signature colors and country checks. The sides are done in a monochromatic palette with both the chicken and rooster prominently featured. The lid slides open to reveal a storage cabinet and sliding shelf to keep all your small items organized. The dimensions of the End Table are 13 X 18 inches and 25 inches tall.

Ways and Means - Keepsake Box

The Keepsake Box was painted by Carol Voyles and is a Betty Caithness design.

This Keepsake Box would be a beautiful addition to any home. The Betty Caithness design “Cranberry Bog” is exquisitely painted on this lovely box which could be used for your special jewelry, photos, or anything else near and dear to your heart. Not only does is there a drawer in front, but the top opens up to additional storage.

Thank you to the Tole Bridge Painters (Northern Cal-ifornia East Bay Area) for giving us boxes of wood surfaces and patterns to give to our members. These were from one of their members who had a Tole Paint-ing shop and donated her inventory to their chapter af-ter she closed her shop. We had a table at the distribu-tion of MPI bags and were able to give most of the sur-faces away. Also, thank you to Tamara Mannon, a Brushwhackers member who has attended many of our Zoom classes. Tamara brought all the wood down when she recently moved to Vista and offered it to us and Brushwhackers.
