The Heroes Journey: King Midas and Wreck-it Ralph

Objective:

The objective of this project is to compare the different stages of the journey undertook by the heroes.

Hero’s Ordinary World

The man in the left is King Midas is the richest king in all lands because of his gold.

The man on the right side is Ralph. He is a wrecker in the game Fix-it Felix.

Call to adventureOn the left side, a fairy appears and tells King Midas that he is going to grant him one wish. He wishes that everything he touches turns to gold.

On the left side, Ralph is sad because his neighbors don’t like him because he is the villain in the community. To be able to show that he is really good even though his rule is bad, Gene, one of his neighbors tells him that he should be able to get a medal to be able to prove that he is good. Because of anger, he says that he will get a medal.

Refusal of the callAfter telling the fairy his wish, the fairy says the his wish will bring him harm but because of his greed, King Midas says that he is willing to take the risk.

Ralph thinks of the decision that he has made because he thinks he will not be able to make it because he knows that he is bad but that thought doesn’t stop him from doing what he wants to do and that is to get a medal and prove that he really is a good man.

Sage

King Midas’ sage is the fairy who will grant him his wish.

Ralph’s sage is Gene who isn’t really a supernatural being but he is the one who pushes Ralph to do what he wants to do.

Road of trials

King Midas’ trial is when his daughter, the second most important thing to him turns to gold because of his greed.

One of Ralph’s trials is when he had to climb a mountain to get the medal he needed and there he had to pretend to be a soldier in another video game.

Atonement with the Father

When King Midas turns his daughter into gold, he calls for the fairy and says that the fairy can take everything just so he can have his daughter back.

When Ralph comes back, he learns that he should just learn to love himself and also his video game will die if he doesn’t go back to his video game.

Ultimate Boon

King Midas’ ultimate boon is when his daughter is turned into human again and he learns that gold isn’t the most important thing in his life but his daughter.

Ralph’s ultimate boon is when his neighbors learn to love him even though he wrecks their place.
