I would also like to congratulate Patience Barnes who will be continuing on with us in 2018. Welcome to the HBPS family. These staff will be participating in the Teacher Fast Track program. This is a newly developed program to induct new staff into our school to ensure they are familiar with the way we work’. This will ensure a smooth transition for both the new staff and for the children in their grades. I would like to congratulate them on their appointments. We had over 60 applications for the teaching positions and these three were outstanding candidates. 2017 / 2018 SCHOOL FEES Firstly, a HUGE thanks to all those people that have now paid their 2017 school fees. I have only made a small dent in the list of phone calls to make, but word is spreading and it s been wonderful that so many people have been able to get these accounts finalised. We are now up to 60% of fees paid for 2017. I have had lots of conversations about what the fees actually pay for and why they are so important to the functioning of our school. The saying Free Educationhas popped up a few times, but its been great that I have had the chance to explain the difference between a Free Education and what we provide here at our school. After having a few conversations with families that are experiencing financial hardship, Chris has done a ring around and contacted lots of community organisations. I now have a great list of contacts that can provide support to families. For example, there are free Financial Councillors that will help you develop a family budget, that includes the school fees to make this more manageable. There is also a service that will help you contact your essential service providers to access a discounted rate. To make payment as painless as possible, as I know we are in the run up to Christmas, on book pack collection dates, we are going to have a range of payment plan options all set and ready to go. Book Packs must be paid for to be collected, and then you can just pick the payment plan that works best for you and your family and we take care of the rest. Payment plans will offer weekly, fortnightly, monthly or termly payment options. I want to thank our community in advance for valuing the educational programs we deliver for your children and for understanding the importance of school fees. GREEN THUMBS WANTED Are you a bit of a green thumb, or just enjoy being in the garden? If yes, let me know. I would love to get a bit of an adult gardening group set up, very casual. Maybe a fortnightly gardening session in and around the school with some children that are interested helping out. Nigel’s Natter Hi All,

2018 TEACHING TEAMS AND LEARNING LEADERS I am really excited to finally announce the 2018 Teaching Teams and Learning Leaders. Learning Leaders are highlighted in blue.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Isaac Doak and Taegan Pearson to our team We are excited about having them on board for 2018. On Friday December 1st Hamlyn Banks will be dressing in red to celebrate and raise awareness for Haemophilia. As some of you may know, we have two students at our school who have Haemophilia. Harrison and Callum Grech.

There is different types of haemophilia and lots of different medicine to help. “If we get hurt, it will take a lot longer for it to stop bleeding. We have this special medicine that helps us. It hurts more for us

when we get hurt than it does for other people.” – Harrison and Callum Haemophilia

Hi, I’m Harrison from 43U & I have Haemophilia. My brother Callum is in Prep F & he also has Haemophilia. Haemophilia is when your blood doesn’t clot. Whenever we fall over it hurts us more so we have to be careful. Currently in Australia there are more than 2700 males with varying degrees of Haemophilia. This week students & teachers at Hamlyn Banks have been raising their awareness of Haemophilia which is great. This Friday we are looking forward to the whole school wearing red to support us, it will be a special day & we appreciate it.

Prep Maths Task Report Term 4 – Addition

Prep students have been exploring the concept of Addition. They have been learning that when we add we always end up with a larger amount. Students who are assessed as 'At the Standard' in this task are able to model addition using concrete materials. They can tell one more than a given amount, count on from the large amount to find the total and recall some friends of ten facts, e.g. 5 and 5 makes ten. Tasks have been hands on.

Year 1 Maths Task Report Term 4 – Money

Year 1 students have been learning about Money. They have been developing their understanding of the value of money. Students who are assessed as 'At the expected Standard' in this task are able to recognise, describe and order Australian coins according to their value.

Year 2 Maths Task Report Term 4 - Place Value and Addition

This term, Year 2 students have been continuing their learning about Place Value and Addition. They have been consolidating their skills and understandings of place value and are connecting their knowledge to addition. They have been learning to apply efficient mental strategies to written processes in number. Students who have achieved an At Expected Standard grading are able to model, visualise and order numbers in terms of place value, and use strategies such as number facts, doubling, building to 10 and skip counting to solve simple addition problems.

One of the first projects would be to get the school veggie garden cleaned up and set for action. It’s looking a bit like a jungle at the moment. Please let me know if you are interested by flicking an email to [email protected] or giving the office a buzz. Looking forward to seeing you at the front gate. Nigel Holloway Principal

This past week in OSHC… BSC…

This week in BSC the children have continued with their Christmas craft using paint to create Christmas scenes and wrapping paper. We have enjoyed using the time to share stories of family Christmas.

Active play has also been a favourite activity with all of the children, from dancing to downball which offer the children the opportunity to practise and improve their coordination skills and to build strength.

The children are also learning independent living skills and doing a great job of getting their breakfast and cleaning up after themselves. Cooking is also a favourite of some children, while everyone has the chance to enjoy what is made.

Take care and enjoy your week.

Sharon and Georgina

———————————————————————————————

Hi everyone,

This term is very quickly coming to an end with only 17 school days left for the year! You will find that as the year comes to an

end we will be a lot less structured and be having a lot more free time. We will still be offering a fun and engaging program full

of activities that your children enjoy, it will just be a lot less busy.

Our Christmas activities are coming along well. I would like to thank Zarah for becoming an expert with last weeks activity and

showing the other children how to make our own Christmas trees. It is important to give the children a chance to become ex-

perts and to teach their peers. Zarah did an amazing job, she led by example and used clear instructions, she was able to also

problem solve any issues the other children were having. Well done Zarah!

Now is the perfect time to register to use the program. It gives you a chance to complete any Christmas shopping you want to

do without the kids, or even just the groceries. If you are registered you are able to put your child/ren in at any time. Don't for-

get that the last day of term is a 1:30 pm finish and that we run from 1:30 - 6:00.

With the hot weather we had last week we found it was too hot to be running around and having a water fight. The children

were kept nice and cool though by being able to wet their head as frequently as they liked. I also brought in a new game on

Friday called toilet trouble, get your children to tell you all about it, I can see it quickly becoming a new favourite.

Don't forget that bookings are open for the holiday club. Book in now so that you can be sure to have a place for fun and ad-

venture over the holidays.

Thanks for your time,

Mel and Georgina
