It is truly a wonderful joy to be together in worship. It is just a glorious occasion to have the honor and privilege as your pastor to bless the children of our church as they prepare to return to school for a new school year. I hope you noticed new faces in the group of children who came forward. It is such a joy to entertain new faces, but even better is the opportunity to get to know them by name. There are two Sundays in September that we need to highlight in our calendar. The second Sunday in September has been designated Name Tag Sunday. I am encouraging all of us to wear our name tags. So far fifty-five name tags have been ordered. What a great response! Let us be known as the church where "everyone knows my name." It is a wonderful assurance to know that God knows us uniquely...I am of value to God...I am important to God. On that Name Tag Sunday, our liturgy of worship will also be quite extraordinary. The worship committee has worked hard in designing a worship experience that will take us back to the beauty of congregational singing. All of our hymns for the service will be sung from the Cokesbury hymnal. Mark Sunday, September 11, 2016 as Name Tag Sunday at Western Hills United Methodist Church. There will be a special reception to allow us to visit with one another after the worship service. The other date is Sunday, September 18, 2016, so mark it on your calendar as our Church Anniversary Sunday. It is amazing how time flies and we are ready to celebrate Christ’s Church here at Western Hills. More information will follow in the upcoming newsletter. Each Sunday is a special occasion to be blessed by God in God's house. It gives me tremendous pleasure and joy to see children from our church family taking part in worship. "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee" was given expression by Richard Brewer playing the trumpet during the prelude, while Mattie, Rachel, and Debra Elrod sang "God on the Mountain," a contemporary rendition of praise, during the offertory. Education Programs

Western Hills UMC has a very active Education program. We have classes for all ages and we encourage everyone to join a class. Our children grow in developing their life's values, in part, by having a Christian education. Our adults grow in knowledge of the Bible, gain in fellowship, and learn from each other by sharing with each other. Sunday school classes: ADULT CLASSES: Searchers class uses an inductive study method of Scriptures. This type of method asks three questions: "What do I see?", "What does it mean?", & "What do I do?" Fellowship class is a lecture class that uses the United Methodist Adult Bible Studies series. Inspiration class has different leaders that choose their type of study. Generation class is study for youth and young adults. Escuela Dominical discusses various Scriptures. CHILDREN CLASSES All our children classes use the United Methodist children material of 'Deep Blue’. This material contains resources, & kids books. We have classes for the following age groups: Grades K, 1, & 2 Grades 3,4,& 5 Nursery PRAYER AND BIBLE STUDIES Sunday evenings at 6:00 pm—Culto de Oracion Wednesday evenings study—5:30 pm (different books of the Bible). Our next study will start on August 28 on various chapters of the Book of Proverbs. Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm—Culto de Oracion y Meditacion de la Biblia
