There will be a Holy Hour for Vocations from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the Thursday evening that pre-cedes First Friday. The next Holy Hour for Vocations will be on January 3. The Holy Hour will include Eu-charistic Adoration, Rosary, and Confession. The har-vest is great but the laborers are few. Please join with us in praying for vocations!
Our customary monthly Mass in Latin on the First
Friday will be celebrated in English next month - January
4 at 12:15 p.m. - due to Fr. Esquen’s vacation schedule.
Confessions will be heard before that Mass from 12:00
Noon to 12:10 but not after the Mass. Eucharistic Adora-
tion will commence with Exposition at 12:45 p.m. and
continue through the afternoon until Benediction at 5:10
p.m., Confessions 5:15-5:25 p.m., and Mass
at 5:30 p.m.
This schedule change will take effect on
January 4 and will be our regular First Friday
afternoon schedule for the foreseeable future.
The First Friday 12:15 p.m. Mass in Febru-
ary (on the 1st) will be celebrated in Latin by
Fr. Esquen.
The parish business office will be closed on Mon-day, December 31 and Tuesday, Jan. 1. The office will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019.
SOLEMNITY OF MARY,
MOTHER OF GOD
The Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God is a Holy
Day of Obligation in 2019. Our Mass schedule for
the holy day is as follows:
Monday, December 31, 2018:
4:00 PM and 7:30 PM
Tuesday, January 1, 2019:

(no 4:00 PM Mass and no 7:30 PM
Mass on January 1st)
MARCH FOR LIFE 2019 WASHINGTON D.C.
The March for Life began
as a small demonstration in
1973 and rapidly grew to be
the largest pro-life event in
the world. The peaceful
demonstration that has fol-
lowed on this somber anni-
versary is a witness to the
truth concerning the great-
est human rights violation
of our time: abortion. Join
us and half a million pro-
lifers as we head once again
to Washington, D.C.
on Friday, January 18, 2019 for the 46th annual March For
Life and walk from the Washington Monument up Consti-
tution Av to the Supreme Court. Always peaceful and up-
lifting, The March For Life offers you the opportunity to
stop in at your federal legislators' offices and let them know
how you feel (and how you pray that they will vote!). De-
funding the abortion industry, defunding embryonic stem
cell research, voting against "right to die" and "death with
dignity" euthanasia legislation are all critical parts of this
day of peaceful and prayerful witness and demonstration.

O Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, you are the ref-uge of sinners, the health of the sick, and the comfort of the af-flicted You know my wants, my
troubles, my sufferings. By your appearance at the Grotto of
Lourdes you made it a privileged sanctuary where your
favors are given to people streaming to it from the whole
world. Over the years countless sufferers have obtained the cure for their infirmities - whether of soul, mind, or body. Therefore I come to you with limitless confi-dence to implore your motherly intercession. Obtain, O loving
Mother, the grant of my requests. Through gratitude for Your favors, I will en-
deavor to imitate
Your vir-tues, that I
may one day share in Your glory. Amen.

Please be kind and gentle to yourself.
Christmas is joy, religious joy, an inner joy of light and peace.
Pope Francis
May you know the beauty of the season,
Merry Christmas.
Have a peaceful & a wonderful New Year
During this wonderful season there is al-ways the opportunity for
the blues to arrive. Try and find the middle ground. Change
it up. Make new traditions. Do something different, something new.
Go to mass.
Christmas is the perfect time to celebrate the love of
God and family and to create memories that will last forever. Jesus is God's perfect, indescribable gift.
The amazing thing is that not only are we able to receive this gift, but we are able to share it with oth-
ers on Christmas and every other day of the year.

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you;
I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a
heart of flesh.
Speaking honestly, I’ve figured out that 99 percent of
my bad moods and losses of temper aren’t because of the
external factors, but really about my inner being. More
specifically, when I put myself at the center of concern I
begin muttering things like, “Why am I always doing the
dishes, feeding the dog or taking out the trash?” Each is a
necessary and good thing to perform, so there is no issue
there. The problem is one of the attitude. That “I” don’t
appreciate the opportunity of doing a particular good
right now and wish it were someone else doing it. This
results in making myself grumpy instead of peppily whis-
tling along. After all, if I am going to do it anyway why
not do it happily?
Having a Babylonian past, the New Year’s celebration
precedes the Catholic faith. Nonetheless, a New Year’s
resolution is a very Christian idea. Christ came to give us
new birth, a new way of life and a new self. In other
words, a new beginning much like the resolve to start
anew on New Year’s Day. I gather losing weight is the
most common thing to tackle, although there are count-
less self-improvement goals. Yet no undertaking is more
worthy or rewarding than a task God asks of us: To push
“me” out of the stony center to make room for the gift of
a new heart of flesh and a new joyful spirit.
If I keep “me” at center of the universe, I will never be
satisfied because I am incapable of giving to myself what
I need. (What I have I don’t need, so what’s needed en-
ters from outside of me.) Fulfillment comes in the person
of Jesus Christ, love incarnate, and the living water that
quenches all thirst. To make room for Him, I must “pour
me out.” Paradoxically, the more I give of myself, the
more I gain. Or as Luke 38 states, Give, and it will be
given to you.
I realize that self-centeredness can mask itself as con-
cern for others. Phrases like “after all I’ve done for you,”
are really about me and not you. Anytime we do some-
thing – no matter how seemingly good - expecting some
kind of payback is ultimately “me” centered. Ousting all
of my self-indulgent peccadillos in one resolution is ra-
ther unlikely, but if I begin with one specific habit (like
not complaining even to myself) I can ferret a little of
“me” from the center. So, I’ve resolved to join the Three
Kings in kneeling before Christ on the Epiphany and of-
fering Him my own gift. Instead of gold, frankincense or
myrrh it will be the New Year’s resolution to think less of
me and make a little more room in my heart for Him.

Aid For The Hearing Impaired We offer the use of radio aids during Mass upon request.
The device is tuned to the sound system in the Church so
that those who have a hearing deficit might hear more
clearly. Please ask an usher for assistance.

mation and referral. The fee is $90 per session, but, if
needed, financial assistance is available through the

Christmas 2018 Collection The tallying of the Christmas collection is a work in pro-
gress at this time since cash and checks earmarked for
Christmas continue to come in through the mail and drop
-offs at the parish office. We’ll publish the amount of the
Christmas collection in the Sunday bulletin in the next
few weeks, promptly after we close the books on the
counting process. Also, the collection data for the week-
ends of December 23 and 30 and January 6 will be pub-
lished in the January 13 bulletin due to early printer’s
deadlines. Thank you for your faithful stewardship and
financial support of the parish.
Howdy, Sorry for not being better about keeping in touch but it's been hectic here lately with a LOT of transfers which means a LOT of award writing. We are enjoy-ing the chilly winter weather - the temps have dropped into the low 70s (even high 60s some-times). I've received several boxes lately and the stuff was very much appreciated. Snacks (grab and go stuff) are always popular. Some of our shipmates, sta-tioned in Saudi Arabia were visiting so we loaded them up with swag as well. They send thanks as well. I hope the holiday season is treating you well. We're taking our unit photo tomorrow and I'll be sure to send you a copy. Thanks again for your thoughtful stream of boxes.
