The “Easter Duty”
All of the faithful are bound by obligation of at least annually receiving the Holy Eucharist sometime during the Easter season, which lasts from Easter Sunday (April 21 this year) through Pentecost Sunday (June 9 this year). (They should also take part in the Sacrament of Pen-ance before receiving this Easter communion.) This reception of the Eucharist is a visible sign of our faith and our participation in the Kingdom of God. Of course, we should receive Communion as frequent-ly as possible; this "Easter Duty" is simply the minimum requirement set by the Church.
Rules of Fast and Abstinence for Lent
Abstinence binds all Catholics 14 years of age or older to refrain from eating meat. Fasting binds all Catholics who are 18-58 years of age or older, but have not yet reached 59 to limit food intake to one principal meal and two lighter ones per day.
All of the Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence! Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence!

We have The Magnificat, Lenten Companion, The Case for Jesus: The Biblical and Historical Evidence for Christ, by Dr. Brant Pitre, and The Word Among Us available at both churches. Please take any or all three of these devotionals to enhance your prayer time during the holy season of Lent.

WEEKLY ADORATION QUOTATION
"Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration is our Lady's 'Peace
Plan.' I am absolutely certain that through Perpetual
Eucharistic Adoration, peace will come to our country
and to the whole world. When we do on earth what is
done in heaven, adore God perpetually, then there will be 'a new
heaven and a new earth.' The only name, the only power, the only
love that will bring an everlasting peace on the face of the earth, is
The Name, The Power, and The Love of Jesus in the Most
Blessed Sacrament." -Rev. Msgr. Josefino S. Ramire

PASTORAL REFLECTION
Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days, to be tempted by the devil… Jesus said to him in reply, “It is written: You shall worship the Lord, your God, and him alone shall you serve.”… When the devil had finished every temptation, he departed from him for a time. (Luke 4:1-13)
At the beginning of His mission to save us, Jesus goes out into the desert, where He fasts and is tempted by the devil. Jesus goes into the desert, the same environment where God’s chosen people, Israel, were also tempted and turned away from God through their disobedience and distrust. To make up for this, Jesus goes through three temptations, which symbolize the sources of our possible temptations (lust of the flesh, desire for glory, eagerness for power), and the Lord conquers Satan by being obedient to God to make up for Israel’s disobedience, by serving God alone to make up for Israel’s serving false gods, which was really the self-enslaving “worship” of their own desires.
Jesus’s victory over Satan’s temptations also makes up for the defeat of Adam, to restore the whole human race. St. Ambrose said, “As the first Adam was cast out of paradise and driven out into the wilderness, the second Adam [Jesus] came out of the wilderness and entered paradise. The damage is repaired by walking back over the same steps, and the divine order is restored by the return to origins.”
We are invited to benefit from the path that is blazed by our Savior: He shows us the way to resist temptations, and He gives us the grace to overcome them in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Penance (Confession) and frequent Holy Communion. The methods to overcome temptations include prayer and fasting, avoiding “dialoguing” with temptation (“playing with fire”), having God’s words of Scripture on our lips, and putting our trust completely in Jesus. May Our Lady help us to embrace these methods and implement them organically into our spiritual life.
Peace in Jesus through Mary,
“Do not fight against a temptation by yourself but disclose it to the confessor at once, and then the temptation will lose all its force.” (Jesus to St. Faustina, Diary, n. 1560)
OUR ADORERS’ TESTIMONIES
“My personal experience with The Lord in Adoration has been sometimes very ordinary and other times totally awesome. I love it when I am alone with Him and we can talk.”
Weekly Scripture Passage
“Christ is living in me. I still live my human life, but it is a life of faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I will not treat God's gracious gift as pointless.” (Galatians 2:20-21)
TRUST IN JESUS
Consecration to Merciful Love Every Monday evening (6 weeks) starting on
Monday, March 25, 2019 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall at Our Lady of Hope
Consecration to Divine Mercy is a spiritual exercise
through which we receive graces to strengthen our
Catholic spirituality and our ability to serve Jesus
and His Church. When we consecrate ourselves to
Divine Mercy, we entrust ourselves completely to
Christ’s Merciful Love and enable the Holy Spirit
to perform great works of Mercy through us.
Bishop Ed is inviting everyone in the diocese to
join him in renewing (or for many, starting for their
first time), their Divine Mercy Consecration.
The 33-day preparation can be done alone or in a group. The
preparation period will launch at our parishes on Monday,
March 25, 2019 and culminate at our weekend Masses for Di-
vine Mercy Sunday on April 27 & 28, and in a diocesan-wide
consecration led by Bishop Ed, on Divine Mercy Sunday, April
28, 2019 at 5 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Concep-
tion.
