The HOLY SPIRIT

He is all Powerful - Matthew 12:28He is All-Knowing - 1 Corinthians 2:10 He is Everywhere - Psalm 139:7 10‑ He performs the Acts of God - Book of Acts

The HOLY SPIRIT

He CreatesGenesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

He Regenerates - John 3:5 6‑ and Titus 3:4 5‑ He indwells us when we get saved

Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

The HOLY SPIRITHe gives you the peace in your heart that you are saved

Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

2 Corinthians 1:22 and I John 4:13 and I John 5:10

Luke 12:11‑12 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.Luke 21:12‑17 But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.13 And it shall turn to you for a testimony.14 Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:15 For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.16 And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake.

If you only think of the Holy Spirit as a blob or ethereal mass then you don’t yield to Him. He is a person. He is not just an influence or a power, The Holy Spirit is a Person.

The Holy Spirit is a Person

Because the Holy Spirit is a person he can be• Blasphemed – This is something that only a lost

person can doMattew 12:31‑32 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

You Quench the Holy Spirit by not doing what you’re supposed to do. When you don’t do right.

Ephesians 4:29‑32 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

You Grieve the Holy Spirit when you do what you’re not supposed to do. When you do wrong.

The Holy Spirit is the 3rd part of the Trinity – God the Holy SpiritThe Holy Spirit is a Person and can be• Lied to, Quenched and GrievedBeing filled with the Holy Spirit is the key to Walking with God and being a Christian instead of just being saved

Walk In The SPIRIT Not The FLESHJohn 4:23-24 - “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

God says He is looking to fill us so He can use us.Isaiah 44:3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: Joel 2:28‑29 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

The fulness of the Holy Spirit is for every child of God.It is available, to every saved person.

Walk In The SPIRIT Not The FLESHGod wants us to walk with Him.

Amos 3:3 “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” • So we must be Spirit-filled Christians to walk with God.• You have all of God, but God does not have all of you.

James 4:5 - “Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?” Galatians 5:16-17 - “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.” Romans 8:7-8 - “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.”

Walk In The SPIRIT Not The FLESHYou have all of God, but God does not have all of you.• Are you filled with the Holy Spirit?• When you were saved you received all of God and He held

nothing back from you.This is not a question of do you have the Holy Spirit, but rather, does He have you? Does He have all of you?He lives within your body, the temple of God, but He does not have complete access to all of you until you invite Him.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”

Walk In The SPIRIT Not The FLESHTo be filled with the Holy Spirit, you must ask.

Luke 11:9-13 - “And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?”

If you have not asked then you’re not filled.

Walk In The SPIRIT Not The FLESHSo then why am I not always filled?• Two reasons found in James 4:2-3

James 4:2-3 “Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.”

---#1 Reason You don’t ask“Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.”

---#2 Reason Our Heart is Desperately WickedJeremiah 17:9-10 - “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.”

Walk In The SPIRIT Not The FLESHIf you are not yeilded to the Holy Spirit then you are walking in the fleshRomans 8:5-8 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Walk In The SPIRIT Not The FLESHSo God gives us a recipe to prepare our hearts to be filled by faith in His goodness and in obedience to His Word.

Ephesians 5:18-21 “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;”

This is a command to be filled with the Spirit daily to the same degree as a drunken man who doesn’t know or realize what he is doing.

Ephesians 5:19 “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;”

We are to speak / read Psalms, hymns and spiritual songs out loud, then sing and make melody to the Lord to prepare our heart to give thanks.

Ephesians 5:20 “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;”

We are to give thanks for everything, whether we think it is good or bad.Ephesians 5:21 “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.”

This daily activates our faith in the goodness of God.

Walk In The SPIRIT Not The FLESHRegardless of circumstances, God is good and will work all things together for good, which in turn will be good for us.

Romans 8:28 - “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

You cannot truly thank God for tragedies unless you first do the step in Ephesians 5:19 which reminds you of God’s goodness, regardless of circumstances and tunes or focuses your heart to give Him the thanks, praise and worship He deserves.

1 Thessalonians 5:18-19 - “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit.”

Walk In The SPIRIT Not The FLESHEphesians 5:21 “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.”

Finally, to prepare our heart for God to fill us, we must submit ourselves, first to Him; then to those we are to serve as unto our Lord.

Colossians 3:23 - “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”

Romans 6:13 & 19 teaches us to submit / yield our body parts to Him. To be filled, we must first be empty.

Romans 6:13-19 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. 16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. 19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

Walk In The SPIRIT Not The FLESHYield your eyes, ears, nose, lips, tongue, mind, hands, feet and heart to do His will, to think His thoughts, see through His eyes and say the words He would say.• Ask him to make you a good servant, husband or wife, son or

daughter, student or employee.• Ask Him, based on faith in His goodness, to fill you with the

Holy Spirit so you can walk with Him as Amos 3:3 says, and glorify Him with your life today.

• You need to be filled first thing in the morning, and then several times a day, seven times a day to be complete in everything.

• For victory over a stubborn will or an overwhelmed will which is the flesh, seven times is best.

This must be renewed daily Eph.4:23, 2 Cor.4:16.
