The Home of the Mountain Lions
Dear Meeker Families,
A HUGE thank you to our students and fami-
lies who attended Meeker’s first PBIS Fam-
ily Night! Despite the few minutes of rain-
fall, it was a beautiful night with over 300
people attending this event. Viewing
Gnomeo and Juliet under the stars was an
incredible experience for all movie goers! A
special thank you to Little Caesar’s for re-
ducing the cost on the pizzas and providing
us with free cookies. Also thanks to our
business partner, Weld Schools Credit Un-
ion, and MSA for donating monies to assist
in paying for this event. Please check out the
photos on our website at
www.meeker.greeleyschools.org. Also take
time to view the video of Meeker staff and a
Meeker parent promoting our school.
I am thrilled to share with you Meeker has
received approval on hiring another third
grade teacher due to large class sizes. As a
result, third grade teachers are busy creating
new classroom lists and we are moving furni-
ture with the goal of starting the new section
on September 12th. Brianna Orr, (former
Brianna James as well as the daughter of
Darlene James, Meeker’s music teacher) has
accepted the position. Because Brianna was
the long term substitute for Melinda Andrews
we will be hiring a new long term substitute
teacher as soon as possible. We welcome
Brianna to our staff and Meeker family and
know the new long term sub will be very ca-
pable and qualified to teach our fifth grade
students.
If you have noticed, we have some of our
fifth grade leaders as greeters in the morning.
We encourage leadership roles in our fifth
graders and this also ensures your child feels
safe and welcomed each morning they come
to school.
At this time we are working on bringing
back the Homework Club to Meeker.
Lori Yanish is coordinating this club and
expect to receive information on this in
your child’s Friday folder. We are also
hoping to have Chess Club this year
which was led by Tim Berendt last year.
As you know, he has now retired, but he
has agreed to support this club again this
year. We will send you information on
this club as soon as it gets organized.
Just a reminder that completing a u-turn in
the middle of the road is unsafe and illegal
and can result in receiving a ticket. Please
help us to keep our students safe by using
the crosswalks and getting out the car
door that is closest to the sidewalks.
I am looking forward to seeing you at par-
ent teacher conferences on September
16th, 20th, and 22nd. This is an opportu-
nity to learn more about your child’s goals
for the year and to become a partner in
your child’s education.

Parents and Guests to Meeker
For the safety of the stu-dents and staff, please
remember that everyone that enters the building must check in at the of-fice and put on a visitor sticker. We appreciate
your help with this.
Scholastic Book Fair
Our Book Fairs connect students to the books
they really want to read! It also provides
families with an opportunity to help build our
classroom libraries by purchasing books and
donating them to your child’s classroom
through the “Classroom Wish List” program.
The Book Fair is a fundraiser which provides
Meeker with the means to buy new books for
our school library. Please stop in before or
after your Parent/Teacher Conference: Fri-
day, September 16th, noon-4 pm; Tuesday,
September 20th, 4:00-8:00 pm; or Thursday,
September 22nd, 4:00-7:00pm.

Parents of English Language Learners
In June 2007 District 6 developed a comprehensive Literacy Development Plan for
students learning English. The goal of the plan is to meet the academic targets out-

tion, now titled District 6 English Language Development Plan, is available to be
viewed on the district’s website. Please feel free to ask questions in order to support
your child’s learning!

United Way Starting September 7th and running through September 30th, Meeker

your extra pennies with your child. All proceeds will be given to
United Way. The winning primary and intermediate classes will
receive a prize.
RtI and the STAR Team At Meeker, we use a process called RtI, or
Response to Intervention, to help all stu-
dents succeed. RtI is a three-tier preven-
tion process that is facilitated at Meeker
through the STAR Team. In this process,
the learning of ALL students is assessed
early and often. The RtI process begins at
tier one, the level at which all students are
receiving quality instruction and interven-
tions in their classroom. If the student is
struggling to meet their goals, the student
will proceed to tier two in which the class-
room teacher will work on utilizing qual-
ity interventions in the classroom that are
meant to result in the student’s success. A
student might be referred to the STAR
Team at this time in order to support the
classroom in creating interventions that
will help the student succeed. If tier one
and tier two interventions are not success-
ful in helping a student meet their goals,
they are referred to tier three. At this point
in time, the STAR Team might proceed in
testing the student for Special Educa-
tion. Here at Meeker, we want every stu-
dent to be successful; the RtI process and
the STAR Team helps to ensure we are
meeting all our student needs.
