    Letter from the Director

The nation is experiencing intense polarization along political lines. It is a time to remember as believers that we belong to a Kingdom that is not of this world. In the Book of Joshua, chapter 5:13-14 as the children of Israel prepared to battle their enemies in the land of Canaan, Joshua witnessed what looked like a warrior with his sword drawn. When he asked this being “Art thou for us, or for our adversaries”? he got an unexpected response. The angelic being responded “No.” He went on to clarify that he had come as “the captain of the host of the Lord.” In other words, he represented an invisible kingdom, in which the battle was against the unseen forces of darkness, not against one particular nation, political faction or another. The Lord does not line up with our battle agenda, but expects us to line up with His.

Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, was accosted by his enemies, and Peter, who was a Zealot in his political affiliation promptly went to war by drawing his sword and cutting off the ear of the high priest’s servant (Matthew 26). Jesus restored and healed the ear, and clarified to Peter and those around Him, that the war He had come to win would not be won with the physical weapons of this world.

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

    2 Cor.10:3-4

As we view the events around us that appear to be spiraling out of control into an unknown future, it is important to remember that Jesus has already won the ultimate victory. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil 1John 3:8. Each time that we act in faith, love, and obedience to Christ, we reinforce His victory won 2,000 years ago against the enemy of our souls.

Thanks to everyone for tireless efforts of giving, donating, praying, and working that we might help those who are in desperate need at this time of crisis. Your efforts are a blessing to our neighbors, and bring glory to God. Below are some excerpts of thanks from the shelters that we have been blessed to be able to help. May God bless you!

Praise be to God for the overwhelming generosity and love shown by so many during this year’s outreach to the homeless in our immediate area. Because of your giving, we were able to provide over 500 lunches a week during the last few months of 2020, and thousands of lunches and meals altogether over the last year. Thanks to those listed and to many anonymous participants for the monetary gifts, the gifts in kind, the spirit of volunteerism, the kind wishes extended on Christmas cards to the meal recipients, the scriptures, and the prayers. 38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Luke 6:38
