Foreword

news & stats STR Global - Our partners at STR Global provide the

stories behind the numbers with their latest market performance report.

EHMA - EHMA president Hans Koch gives us his thoughts on the state of the industry.

big interview Sebastien Bazin thinks the hotel industry has been a

self-inflicted victim of inertia, having failed to respond over the last 15 years of technological change, and now risks failing once again in the face of the emergence of the sharing economy. But how does he hope to combat such malaise? We sit down with the Accor CEO to find out.

business management & development What is the market outlook for European hotel transactions

over the year ahead? Executives from Jones Lang LaSalle, HVS and Barclays provide their insights.

European attitudes towards third-party operators are shifting as the franchise model continues to gather momentum and a number of hotel operators become more willing to cede management control. What makes for the right partner and where can most value be found? Jim Abrahamson, CEO, Interstate; Anders Braks, MD, EVENT Hotels; and Dermot Crowley, deputy chief executive, Dalata, join the debate.

special report Demand for serviced apartments and extended stay

options is growing quickly in a number of European markets, as an increasingly mobile workforce drives

business travel and relocation activity. Furthermore, despite the progress made in the UK, France and Germany to define and classify the sector, the market continues to face a lack of standardisation both in product and distribution. What is the role of traditional hotel operators within this shifting landscape and how best can they capitalise on such growing demand? Industry leaders discuss.

regional focus Six months on from the latest in a succession of bailouts,

where does the Greek hospitality industry currently stand and what role can international operators play in aiding recovery? We meet regional hospitality leaders to find out.

design In summer 2012, the Ritz Paris closed its doors in order

to undergo a 27-month renovation, overseen by superstar interior designer Thierry W Despont. As the project nears completion, Despont sits down with Hotel Management International to discuss the significance of the hotel within the Parisian five-star pantheon, his vision for elevating it to new heights, and why today’s guests still have an appetite for classical elegance and luxury.

operations As new technologies proliferate and competition grows

fiercer, the role of the general manager has undergone dramatic changes. We look back over a year of transformation on hospitality’s front lines and ask what new tools a GM will need going into 2016 with leaders from some of Europe’s most prestigious hotels.

Guest amenities The global wellness industry is now valued at well over

$3 trillion, with an increasing amount of focus and money being invested into the spaces within which

spa and treatment centres sit. What are the current trends in wellness aesthetics and how can architects and interior designers best serve this fast growing market segment? We meet partners from GA Design and WATG to find out.

security The growing trend towards automating hotel processes,

including self check-in, and keyless room entry, seeks to streamline the guest experience and simplify operations. But to what extent does this shift also present security concerns, both perceived and real, and how can they be overcome? Geraldine Calpin, senior vice president and global head of digital at Hilton Worldwide, and Chris Holdren, senior VP of global and digital at Starwood Preferred Guest, discuss.

Food & beverage Multi Michelin-starred chef Simon Rogan is launching

Aulis, a hi-tech space adjacent to the main kitchen at Fera at Claridge’s, which will serve as a development space for budding chefs and an intimate private dining room for customers. He talks to Hotel Management International about the driving forces behind this move and what’s next for his budding restaurant empire.

technology The brainchild of a Munich hotelier, Johannes

Eckelmann, who already runs the Cocoon Hotel brand, Hotel Buddy at Munich’s Stachus Square, is a new concept that claims to be the world’s first completely staff-less hotel. We meet Eckelmann to discuss the cloud-based technology that makes this possible and ask whether we are looking at the future of the budget hotel space.

Management International to be a reliable source of information, with 43% having sourced a supplier or vendor via the publication in the last 12 months.

35% recommended the purchase of a product or service as a result of an article read in Hotel Management International.

83% of our readers will visit a company website for more information as a result of an advertisement. Significantly, nearly half of those who were driven to take action due to an advertisement did so by recommending the purchase of a product or service.
