he also oversees the truancy court system, and was pleased about legislation passed recently that would give them more resources to keep kids in school. The Commissioners Court has had thirteen meetings so far this year, and believes things have gone relatively well for a bipartisan court. The Court has passed a Transparency Plan and a Code of Ethics. They are also posting the meetings online. He is particularly concerned about un-funded mandates and is working with Gov. Perry to eliminate them. They are also work-ing on the jails, and are depopulating the Decker jail, which will be sold. This week they will be considering a Green Air Policy. They are considering allowing a green bidder at 105% to be comparable to another bidder at 100%. They have cut $28 million out of the budget by cutting employees, cutting sala-ries, equalizing insurance, and redirecting each Commissioner’s road and bridge funds. Most of the roads in Dallas are city roads, so they partner with the city to build roads. He also has taken away the constables’ duties in traffic and in warrants; he would like to see them go back to their duties as bailiffs.

Mark Thomason gave the invoca-tion; he also re-ported that Sam

Pirtle led the Pledge of Allegi-ance and “The Star Spangled Banner,” followed by “April Show-ers.” Mark Kashar introduced our visitors and guests, then stay-

ed to recognize The Hub and web advertisers of the week. Bill

THOUGHTS ON . . .

DestinyNo trumpets sound when the im-portant decisions of our life are made. Destiny is made known silently. ~ Agnes de MilleIt is a mistake to try to look too far ahead. The chain of destiny can only be grasped one link at a time. ~ Winston Churchill Our problems are man-made, therefore they may be solved by man. No problem of human des-tiny is beyond human beings.

~ John F. KennedyDestiny waits alike for the free man as well as for him enslaved by another's might.

~ AeschylusThe bitterest tragic element in life to be derived from an intel-lectual source is the belief in a brute Fate or Destiny.

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
