From the Principal’s desk…
Welcome back! It has certainly been a long time
since we were all at school together in Week 9 last
term. It was a relief to see all students walking
through the school gates on Monday with smiling
faces and ready to learn. We all enjoyed a sausage
sizzle on Monday to welcome students back to
school. At home learning was certainly a challenge
and I would like to thank our parents who put so
much time and effort into ensuring their children
were on track and completing their work.
Thank you to our staff for your efforts over the past
nine weeks. We were certainly teaching in
unchartered waters but we made it through the
other side successfully. We had so many last
minute changes but UCS staff showed resilience
and perseverance, just as we would expect from
our students.
Finally, thank you to our students. We had many
students who pushed themselves to complete their
learning at home. We’re very proud of your efforts
and the way you committed yourselves to your
independent learning.
As you would be aware, returning to school has
resulted in some changes to our routine and
activities. We are still restricted in some areas.
These include ensuring only non-contact sports
are played and there can be no school excursions
or incursions. Enhanced cleaning is occurring and
supplies of antibacterial wipes and sanitizer have
been provided for all students. Visitors to the
school are restricted. As a parent, caregiver,
grandparent or community member we ask that
you go to the front office where our office
staff will be more than happy to help you out. No
visitors may enter the school grounds including the
playground. Staff are able to give students
messages or get students to come to the front office
where you may pick them up. Thank you for your
understanding.
We have signed up for School Stream, a school
communication app. This app will replace our
current communication tools and will allow us to
send out permission notes, information notes and
the newsletter digitally. It will include a photo
gallery and a calendar with school events. There
will be more information in the coming weeks
about our new app.
We will hold our cross country on Wednesday 10th
June. Unfortunately we are unable to have
spectators at the cross country but we’ll take
photos and we hope to have the drone recording
some footage, which you will see on our Facebook
page. We are also planning for our Athletics
Carnival in Term 3, however we have not set a date
yet.
This term there has been a hive of activity around
the school. The outside of the music and maths
rooms have been painted and the science lab,
timber room and kitchen have had a fresh coat of
paint inside as have some other spaces. We have
new carpet in the front office and 2/3/4 room. We
have new air conditioning in the library, computer
room, science lab and kitchen as part of the Cooler
Classroom project and are in the process of getting
a new bubbler and play equipment.
Until next week,
Terrie Payne

How wonderful it is to have all staff and students back at school this week. We have missed the kids smiling faces over the last 9 weeks and are looking forward to finishing the term off with some normality.
A GIGANTIC THANK YOU to our parents. During this time of uncertainty, you have ridden the roller coaster, provided feedback on learning, done your very best to maintain normality for the students and supported our teaching staff through a difficult and sudden transition to ‘home learning’. Your dedication and commitment certainly doesn’t go unnoticed.
There are a number of students who haven’t returned learning packs to school. These include resources sent home to ensure continuity. If you have any student workbooks or class resources (e.g. maths resources packs) at home, please return them AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Home Reading A number of students would have reached milestone reading nights. Could you please return all home reading log books by NEXT FRIDAY, 5th of June.
Wednesdays BBQ lunches
will resume next week.
