THE HYDROSPHERE

Page 2: The hydrospher eb

The Hydrosphere includes all the water on Earth.

Water covers 71% of the Earth's surface. Living things contain water in their bodies

in different proportions:

Humans: 70%. Jellyfish: 99,5% Cat: 60% Orange: 85%

Do you know……..?Where can we find water in our planet? How is sea water different to water in

rivers? What is the water cycle? Why is important not to waste water? Some easy ways to save water?

WHERE IS WATER ON THE EARTH?

Page 5: The hydrospher eb

WHERE IS THERE WATER ON EARTH?97% of water on Earth is salt water. It is

found in the oceans.3% of water on Earth is fresh water. It is

found in:Ice and snow from glaciars.Below the surface: groundwater. In the atmosphere. On the surface of our planet. In living beings.

Page 8: The hydrospher eb

• El agua se congela a 0ºC, y se evapora a 100 ºC.

• El agua modera los cambios de temperatura.

• El agua se adhiere a las superficies (adhesión).

• Las moléculas de agua se unen con fuerza entre ellas (cohesión).

THE ROLE OF WATER IN LIVING THINGS

Water is the main component in living things.

Many living things live in water.Chemical reactions in our body

occur in water.Water maintains our body

temperature constant.

THE WATER CYCLE

Page 17: The hydrospher eb

Is the movement of water around, over and through the Earth. It consist on these processes:

Evaporation.Evapotranspiration.Condensation.Precipitation.Surface Runoff.Infiltration

Page 18: The hydrospher eb

Evaporation: liquid water changes to gas. Water passes from the hydrosphere to the atmosphere.

Page 19: The hydrospher eb

Evapotranspiration: water evaporates from the leaves of plants.

Page 20: The hydrospher eb

Condensation: Water vapour changes to liquid, forming clouds.

Page 21: The hydrospher eb

Precipitation: water in the clouds falls to the ground.

Page 22: The hydrospher eb

Surface Runoff: surface water moves across the land, forming rivers and streams.

Page 23: The hydrospher eb

Infiltration: surface water filters into the ground, using the pores in the rocks.
