The IBCC encourages students who wish to engage in career-related education, to benefit from elements of an IB education, through a selection of two or more Diploma Programme courses in addition to a unique IBCC core, comprised of a personal and professional skills course, a reflective project, language development and service learning The IBCC is a qualification that increases access to an IB education and is specifically designed to provide a flexible learning framework tailored by the school to meet the needs of students and the local community as well as the world beyond The IBCC enables students to develop a broad range of career-related competencies and to deepen their understanding in general areas of knowledge. Next to prepare for effective participation in an ever-changing world of work, to become true lifelong learners willing to consider new perspectives, to engage in learning that makes a positive difference to future lives, and to become a self confident person ready for life in the 21st century

graduates looking for work – so enabling students to become self-confident, skilled and career-ready learners must be an integral part of their education.

• The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Career-related Programme (CP) prepares students for the world of work, as well as developing a student’s personal qualities. • By doing so it leads students down a personally chosen

career-related pathway towards further/higher education, internships or work.

What are the requirements of the IB-CP • Career-related Study

• Must be enrolled in a CTE program of study during both junior and senior year and maintain a “B” average

• Preferred obtainment of an industry certification in career program of study

• IB Diploma Programme Courses • Must pass a minimum of two IB Diploma courses

• IB-CP Core • Pass two-year, weekly “Approaches to Learning Course” • Passing mark on Reflective Project • Completion of Language Development Portfolio • Completion of Service Learning Requirements

The Career-related Study at RHS • The new International Business Program is preferred for

scheduling purposes while enrollment increases • Introduction to IT, Accounting 1* & International Business Systems • In progress: Dual Enrollment option with SJRSC Business

Management program • Students in the first two cohorts have studied

• Business Management • Culinary Arts • Web Design

• Benefits of career-related courses beyond content • Industry certification exams from Adobe and Microsoft • Technical skills transferrable to college and the workplace • Resume writing & Interviewing workshops • Opportunities for on-site career shadowing in junior/senior year in any

career field of interest

IB Diploma Courses at RHS • Students must enroll in a minimum of two IB Diploma

courses • Diploma courses, with the exception of IB ITGS are two

years in length • Courses available at RHS for IB-CP students

• Required one year course: I.B. Information Technology for a Global Society (ITGS)

• Choices for two year courses: • I. B. Math Studies-SL (must complete Algebra II Honors by end of sophomore year with a “B” or higher) • I.B. Psychology-SL (2 elective credits) • Limited enrollment: I.B. Biology-SL (must receive Biology teacher approval)

• Students passing IB courses will receive 3-6 college credits per course

IB-CP Core • Approaches to Learning course

• Weekly course during both junior and senior year • Aimed to improve communication, thinking, personal development,

global mindedness, and ethical reasoning • Provides support and guidance for other core components • Enrollment in Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy in junior year

• Language Portfolio • Minimum of 50 hours of Language Development during junior and

senior year • Duolingo and/or online course through CVA

• Reflective Project • 40 hours of research investigating an ethical/social issue related to

career-related program of study • Service Learning

• 50 hours of active service within local community • Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy impact projects

What are the benefits of an IB education? • College and university recognition

• IB courses receive heavy consideration in the application process • Credit earned on IB exams articulates to state, national, and international

colleges and universities • The IB Examination process

• Final grade for each course is based on three exams • Two external assessments are written exams graded by IB educators • Internal assessment (IA) for each course is a course long project with support

from the IB teacher • Universities indicate that IB’s writing-based assessments help better prepare

students for the research and writing skills needed for college success • IB-CP Core

• Stronger communication, thinking, and reasoning skills from ATL course • Experience preparing a long-term, in depth research project • Completion of community service hours needed for college scholarships and

admittance • Language development supports global mindedness and future career

exploration

The IB-CP Application Process at RHS • Pre-Qualification in Winter of Sophomore Year

• Weighted G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher • Successful completion of Intro. to IT or other CTE course • Recommendation of CTE Teacher

• Application Process in Spring of Sophomore Year • Students download and complete the application packet online and

return by March 31st, 2015 • The most qualified applicants in terms of academics, attendance,

behavior, and teacher recommendations will be notified of acceptance into the IB-CP by May

• Admissions by Summer of Sophomore Year • Final admissions packet and course selection schedule will be

completed by the end of the school year with Mrs. Greenawalt

• Teacher evaluations for acceptance will be based on an evaluation of each of these characteristics in terms of student performance in ninth & tenth grade
