Welcome to the ICCA Bar CourseA new approach to Bar training
If you want to become a barrister, the ICCA course provides an innovative two-stage approach to Bar Training.
Part One is delivered online using cutting-edge digital tools and Part Two is taught within the precincts of the Inns of Court. The ICCA Bar Course is designed to equip you with all the vital practitioner skills required for pupillage.
Modules and Assessments
Part One Online
• Civil Litigation, Evidence and Alternative Dispute Resolution
• Criminal Litigation, Evidence and Sentencing The final assessments for the Part One modules are set and marked by the Bar Standards Board (BSB) and the sittings require attendance in person. Following the recommended pathway of 12-14 weeks for Part One, successfully passing the BSB assessments will allow you to continue on to the ICCA’s Part Two course within the same cycle.
Part Two Delivered face-to-face
• Advocacy • Opinion Writing and Legal Research • Drafting • Conference Skills • Professional Ethics
The final assessments for the Part Two course are set and marked by the ICCA in accordance with BSB requirements and are taken during the Part Two course (excluding resits).
Commencement Dates and Applications
The ICCA Bar Course is delivered in two cycles each year, enabling you to choose a cycle to suit your individual circumstances and requirements:
First Cycle Part One (online) September 2021 (anticipated
completion December 2021); leading to Part Two (in person) March 2022 (anticipated
completion August 2022).
Second Cycle Part One (online) January 2022 (anticipated
completion April 2022); leading to Part Two (in person) September 2022 (anticipated
completion February 2023).
By following the recommended pathway of 12-14 weeks for Part One and passing the BSB assessments at the first opportunity, you will be able to proceed to Part Two within the same cycle.
Applications for both course cycles will be made through our online application portal opening on 2nd November 2020 until 15th January 2021. The ICCA operates a Fair Admissions Policy. Please see our website for entry requirements and further course and application details.
Fees
For the 2021/22 cycles, the ICCA fees will be: Part One: £515 in addition to which students will pay £511 for textbooks and the BSB intake fee of £575. The total payable for Part One is £1,601
Part Two: £11,585 in addition to which students must pay the BSB intake fee of £295. The total payable for Part Two is £11,880
Total combined cost: £13,481
No Part Two cost will be incurred by any student who does not proceed to Part Two and no deposit is required. Please see our website for full details.
Registration on the ICCA Bar Course confers no advantage in relation to Inns scholarships or awards, Inns membership, Qualifying Sessions or Call to the Bar.
