ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

General Admission to the IMSE Executive Certificate Programs Students should have completed an associate‟s degree or 60 college credits from a U.S. accredited college, and or a CHEA recognized internationally accredited institution. In addition, should have a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Admissions to the IMSE Post Baccalaureate Executive Certificate Program Students seeking admissions to this program should hold a 2.50 GPA or higher, and completion of an accredited bachelor's level program. Students are required to maintain above a 3.00 GPA while enrolled in the program.

Admissions to the IMSE Post Master’s Executive Certificate Program Students seeking admissions to this program should hold a 3.0 GPA or higher, and completion of an accredited master‟s level program. Students are required to maintain above a 3.00 GPA while enrolled in the program.

Admissions to the IMSE Postdoctoral Programs Executive Certificate Programs Students seeking admissions to this program should hold a 3.0 GPA or higher, as well as completion of a doctorate degree program. Students are required to maintain above a 3.0 GPA, while enrolled in the program.

ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS Personal technology skills should be at the level of intermediate in accessing the internet, sending e-mail, as well as working within applications such as Microsoft Office. Students should also:

• Have access to a computer and internet. • Have the ability to store assignments and resources on a personal computer, and or

external storage device. • Have openness for sharing with the instructor, and classmates in relative subject matters. • Have the ability to interact via online posts, webinars, and chat room setting. • Have the self-discipline to manage assigned curriculum and study time. • Have the ability to strategically and critically think through subject matters. • Have a good understanding that quality education can be performed through distance

education methods. • Please also refer to the IMSE Student Handbook for more information on enrollment

requirements. TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

• A computer running a Windows operating system. Preferably, 2000, XP, or Vista,

with a processor running at 500MHz or better. • At least 256 MB of RAM (higher is highly recommended) • The ability to connect to the Internet at a speed of at least 56 kbps • A higher connection speed is highly recommended as some courses will not function at

the lower connection speed • A web browser (Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, Flock, Safari, Netscape 7.2 or higher, or

Firefox 1.5 or higher) • A sound card, speakers, and access to a telephone may be required for some courses that

are interactive with whiteboards. Webcam is optional.

EXECUTIVE TRACK DESCRIPTIONS

o STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP AND HUMAN RIGHTS EXECUTIVE TRACK: 1000 In today‟s organizations, learning how to make good decisions, and plan effectively is essential

for organizational success. In this executive track, students will learn the SWOT Analysis,

strategic planning methods and models, forecasting, goal setting, environmental scanning,

implementation of organizational strategies and strategic management. Students will also discuss

and compare strategic practices of global humanitarian organizations, and put into practice the

SWOT analysis through case studies.

o GLOBALIZATION AND HUMAN RIGHTS EXECUTIVE TRACK: 2000 The Global Civilization and Human Rights executive track explores the challenges that exist

within globalization, and addresses each international issue within the framework of human

rights and international law. Students will learn about different international systems in order to

compare and problem solve each concept and idea within a global context. Emphasis for this

course will be in: leadership, communications, economics, politics, religion, culture and

international legal systems.

o HOMELAND SECURITY AND HUMAN RIGHTS EXECUTIVE TRACK: 3000 Formed in 2002, the Department of Homeland Security has become one of the most centralized

defense organizations within the United States. This program prepares students to not only be

informed global citizens, but develop a keen awareness of public safety issues. The course work

includes, engaging in theory and practices of Homeland Security, understanding Homeland

Security departments with processes, examining international security issues within the

framework of the human rights agenda, and analyzing global mechanisms for response and

defense with international actors. Areas of specialization include: public safety, security

management, cyber security, emergency preparedness, international terrorism studies, and global

security issues

o HUMAN RIGHTS AND COMMUNICATIONS EXECUTIVE TRACK: 4000 The Human Rights and Communications executive track introduces students to theories and

practices of organizational communications and mass media within the context of human rights.

Students will learn about organizational development, change, diversity, leadership, types of

media, conflict management, ethics, as well as explore crisis communications cases for non-

profits and NGO‟s.

o INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS LAW EXECUTIVE TRACK: 5000

The International Human Rights Law Executive Track explores global treaties, conventions,

laws, organizations, and related topics and theories, including universal human rights. This track

is diversely composed of important human rights topics, such as human trafficking,

sustainability, indigenous peoples‟ study, and international systems, which will allow the student

to engage fully in understanding international human rights law.

o UNITED NATIONS HISTORY EXECUTIVE TRACK: 6000 The United Nations History Executive Track provides students with a well-rounded education in understanding the UN from its inception, to its present day status. Topics covered in this program include: understanding the role of the UN in times of conflict, mediation, diplomacy, and peacekeeping, the purpose of NGO‟s and CSO‟s, and the codification of international law. o SPORTS AND WELLNESS MANAGEMENT EXECUTIVE TRACK: 7000

The Sports and Wellness Management program offers a wholistic approach to managing

athletic programs for sports administrators. This program teaches students the essentials of

good health and wellness, effective communications, management and development, sports

education program design, and social science research. Students who pursue this executive

track also have the option to pursue certification at IMSE. To find out more information

o GLOBAL QUALITY ASSURANCE AND SUSTAINABILITY

EXECUTIVE TRACK: 8000

The Global Quality Assurance and Sustainability program is devoted to exploring best business practices from the for-profit to non-profit sector. Students will learn about the history, theory and practice of quality assurance, creating and managing sustainable programs, and performing effective research to demonstrate the viability of sustainable methods with short or long-term programs or projects. o INTRODUCTION TO CHILD LABOR LAWS EXECUTIVE TRACK: 9000

Introduction to Child Labor Laws focuses on examining child labor abuses through the lens

of sociology and the law. This program covers, domestic and international child protection

laws, detecting child labor abuses, understanding the role of law enforcement in child labor

cases, and building anti-child labor campaigns. Emphasis for this program revolves around the

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

o CHRISTIANITY AND HUMAN RIGHTS EXECUTIVE TRACK: 10000

In this executive track students will study the role of Christianity in the evolution of

universal human rights, beginning with the role of the Catholic Church and social justice.

Students will learn about international law, sustainable business practices, multiculturalism,

and „tent-making,‟ as a means of discipleship. This program is geared toward supporting the

role of Christian missionaries exploring the 10/40 window.

O GLOBAL HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS, HUMAN SERVICES, AND HUMAN RIGHTS EXECUTIVE TRACK: 11000

In this executive track, students will have a choice of understanding healthcare from the

administrative side including researching and developing policies, or from the human services

perspective as a healthcare provider serving the global community. This program also provides

students with an understanding of global healthcare systems, policies, and decision making

processes affecting the international communities.

O INFORMATION SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY AND HUMAN RIGHTS EXECUTIVE TRACK: 12000

This executive track centers on teaching the NGO and non-profit community about the value of

investing in, and implementing technology as a means of sustainable business practice. Students

will learn in this program about, critical technology decisions that affect the NGO and non-

profit organization on a global scale. In addition, about types of internal applications that will

enhance delivery of products and services, to the concept of automation as a means of saving

time and organizational resources.

O NGO AND NON-PROFIT DEVELOPMENT AND HUMAN RIGHTS EXECUTIVE TRACK: 13000

The biggest challenge for NGO‟s and Non-profit organizations today includes finances and the

ability to properly fundraise in order to meet the organization‟s annual, or 3 year, and 5 year

fundraising campaign. In this executive track, students learn about the fundamentals of

fundraising, including researching and developing organizational donors, building strategic

partnerships, planning fundraising events, marketing, and basic grant writing techniques.

O ANIMAL RIGHTS PROTECTION AND HUMAN RIGHTS EXECUTIVE TRACK: 14000

This executive track is designed for advocates for animal rights, who want to make a difference

on not only a local level, but global as well. In this program, students will learn about animal

protection agencies, domestic laws and rights, policy research, and mobilizing for animal

advocacy.

O EARTH JURISPRUDENCE AND HUMAN RIGHTS EXECUTIVE TRACK: 15000

Earth jurisprudence is the study of the Earth from the perspective of law, human governance,

values, community, and philosophy. In this program, students will learn about Earth

jurisprudence, laws with advocacy, the role of universal human rights, community building, the

biological processes within the Earth, and ethics for corporate responsibility.

o EDUCATIONAL SYSTEMS AND HUMAN RIGHTS EXECUTIVE TRACK: 16000

This executive track caters toward the humanitarian organization designing educational resources

for the public, as well as their own organization. In this program, students will learn about

important laws that effect education delivery systems, available funding for NGO‟s and non-

profits, and using instructional technology to teach both externally and internally, for the NGO

and non-profit community.

O U.S. LEGAL SYSTEMS AND INTERNATIONAL LAW EXECUTIVE TRACK: 17000

The focus of this executive track is to research, analyze, and compare the U.S. legal system in

comparison to International Law, in order to provide students with a solid understanding of

laws, policies, and practices around the world. Emphasis for this course will also center on U.S.

immigration policy, law, and present U.S. immigration issues.

o INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS LEADERSHIP EXECUTIVE TRACK: 18000

This track offers students a dynamic opportunity to further their interest for international

business leadership. The program caters toward new and existing leaders working beyond the

U.S. borders, providing both insight and training on effective business practices and standards.

Emphasis for this course will be in: business leadership practices, ethics, multiculturalism, and the

role of international trade in the human rights agenda.

o ADVANCED STUDIES- INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS LAW EXECUTIVE TRACK: 19000

Advanced Studies in the International Human Rights Law executive track has a prerequisite of

taking the International Human Rights Law Track 5000. However, exceptions can be made for

international lawyers, JD‟s, and paralegals, which can document relative training.

o EFFECTIVE WRITING AND MEDIA DEVELOPMENT EXECUTIVE TRACK: 20000

This program focuses on developing critical writing, editing, and media presentation skills for the

NGO and non-profit professionals. Students will learn how to develop their writing voice, and

perform technical editing for different types of messages. In addition, students will learn about

important media types that can be used to effectively communicate with leaders, institutions,

peers, and clients. Course topics include, proposal writing, business writing, academic writing,

technical editing, self-publishing, and how to use media for business presentations.

o INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ STUDIES AND HUMAN RIGHTS EXECUTIVE TRACK: 21000

This executive track offers students opportunity to study indigenous people around the world,

with a special focus on exploring native societies, cultures, practices, and laws. Emphasis for this

track includes: The history and plight of Native Americans, human rights and international law,

and multiculturalism.

o PROJECT MANAGEMENT FOR THE NO AND NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION EXECUTIVE TRACK: 22000

In this executive track students will engage in project management theories, principles, ethics,

and practices, which can serve to be advantageous in the daily operations of the NGO\non-

profit organization. This executive track is geared toward developing new PM practitioners in the

fundamentals of foundational standards of project management, and how it interfaces with

strategic planning for accomplishing the organizational mission, goal, and objectives.

o INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND DIPLOMACY EXECUTIVE TRACK: 24000

The International Relations and Diplomacy Executive Track focuses on studying diplomatic

institutions, diplomatic laws, and developing skills for international relations. This program also

engages students in understanding related disciplines including, world history, international law,

and negotiations with conflict management. The goal of this executive certificate program is to

provide training for those seeking a career in diplomacy, or require diplomatic skills in their

present profession.

o INTERNATIONAL PEACE AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION EXECUTIVE TRACK: 25000

The International Peace and Conflict Resolution Executive Track is geared toward promoting

peace, and developing professionals who advocate for peaceful conflict resolutions in the form

of policy development, negotiations, or advocacy for issues in social justice. Students in this

executive track will explore peace studies in the framework of theories, practices, and conflict

resolutions, in order to provide emergency relief for humanitarian causes such as healthcare,

food, housing, education, and other volatile situations. In addition, students have opportunity to

gain practical experience through our academic journal- Journalism for Human Rights (JFHR) or

by developing projects to aid in humanitarian causes at the International Human Rights Research

and Global Peace Clinic.

o ORGANIZATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS, COACHING AND MENTORING EXECUTIVE TRACK: 26000

Organizational Communications, Coaching, and Mentoring centers on developing professionals

to be more effective leaders and communicators in the workplace, by learning practical

communications techniques that will enhance overall performance. Students in this program will

learn about the dynamics of organizational communications, such as building effective teams,

mentoring employees as a method of career development, and understanding how coaching and

mentoring models interface with organizational communications. This program also focuses on

emotional intelligence and strategic leadership, in order to mobilize employees for professional

and personal excellence.

Available Program Formats at IMSE Continuing Education Center

Independent Studies Executive Track: ISECT000

The Independent Studies track centers around forming a specific program for students who are

not able to meet during the assigned classroom time, or have another special need for training

outside the course offering. In order to participate in the Independent studies track, students can

make the request via the IMSE registration form.

Weekend Express Executive Track: WEECT000

The Weekend Express Program, allows students to complete one executive course on-line in one

weekend. This program caters toward students with limited scheduling, by combining the normal

7 day course curriculum into one weekend.

Introduction to Leadership Studies Course Code: IMSE1000

This introductory course teaches students about past and present leadership

models, as well as helping students to assess their own leadership skills. Students will

also learn about decision making processes for leaders, as well as the role of ethics in

leadership.

Strategic Planning for NGO‟s and Non-Profits Course Code: IMSE1001

This course centers on preparing the non-profit, or NGO professional in

understanding the role of strategic planning in their environment, and how to

implement strategic vision, mission, guiding principles and processes.

Grant Writing Administration and Marketing Course Code: IMSE1002

In this course students will learn how to write successful grant proposals by

understanding the needs component, methodology for grant writing, budget and

time lines. Students will learn, request for proposals (RFP), letter of intent (LOI),

grant research, and the fundamental role marketing plays before and after the grant

process.

Fundraising and Building strategic Partnerships for Non-Profits Course Code: IMSE1003

In this course students will learn comprehensive methods and processes in

the art of fundraising. In addition, students will learn about the supporting role of

strong strategic relationships, both individual and organizational, and how they serve

to enhance the fundraising process.

The Role of Project Management in Strategic Planning Course Code: IMSE1004

This course teaches about theories and practices in project management for leaders, and how to integrate project management methods to carry-out the organizational strategic plan successfully.

Ethics in Leadership Course Code: IMSE1005

In this course students will learn about ethical standards, values, and practices of leadership. Topics include: ethical perspectives of leadership, expectations of leadership ethics, and historical standards.

Crafting Good Leadership Course Code: IMSE1006

This course is designed to help students to develop their leadership skills by identifying their leadership style, and performing an assessment of their management skills in order to perform effectively in the workplace.

Research Seminar (Required Course) Course Code: IMSE1007RS

The research seminar is the final course in each executive certificate track, which provides students an opportunity to reinforce their learning outcomes, while completing a final project or paper for their program. This research seminar also covers professional writing and research techniques to help students with their final submission.

Introduction to Globalization and Human Rights Course Code: IMSE2000

This course will study the evolution of globalization in relations to the

World‟s economy. Emphasis for this course will be placed on studying Latin

America, the U.S., and European trade systems, in order to effectively

understand the present evolution of globalization.

Globalization and Immigration Course Code: IMSE2001

This is a dynamic course, which studies the immigration through the lens of

globalization. Topics in this course include: globalization in the Americas,

U.S.\Mexico border issues, Free Trade Agreements (FTA) and international

economics.

Globalization and Fair Trade Course Code: IMSE2002

This course promotes an understanding of the role of globalization in response to international fair trade, democracy, economics, and social challenges. Students will also learn about trade agreements, government regulations, and contemporary trade issues with a particular focus on the Americas.

Globalization and The United Nations Course Code: IMSE2003

This course focuses on learning about past, present, and future issues of globalization.

Students will also examine the cultural, social, and economical factors involved in

globalization, with an additional emphasis on learning about the United Nations role

as well as major international organizations such as the World Trade Organization,

the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund.

Globalization Development IMSE Course Code: IMSE2004

This course examines the integrated processes of economic, cultural, social value systems and how they are now merging into one transnational system for civil advancement.

Analysis of Globalization Course Code: IMSE2005

In this course students will analyze transnational systems, and the role it plays in the human rights agenda. Special emphasis for this course will include evaluating regional, national, and international globalization.

Globalization Ethics and Philosophy Course Code: IMSE2006

This course evaluates the ethical and philosophical value systems of a global civilization. Emphasis for this course includes understanding social, political, and economical factors, which contribute to establishing a global civilization.

Research Seminar (Required Course) Course Code: IMSE2007RS

The research seminar is the final course in each executive certificate track, which provides students an opportunity to reinforce their learning outcomes, while completing a final project or paper for their program. This research seminar also covers professional writing and research techniques to help students with their final submission.

Introduction to Homeland Security Course Code: IMSE3000

This introductory course studies the Homeland Security organization, its

role in national security, and response to shared global security issues. Emphasis in

this course will be placed in learning case law and statutes that governs Homeland

Security, understanding the main operations of the organization, and it role in public

safety.

History of International Terrorism and Human Rights Studies Course Code: IMSE3001

This course will learn and examine concepts, ideologies, goals, strategies,

tactics and methods used by terrorist groups in the current and historical framework.

Emphasis will be placed on studying major terrorist organizations, media and

terrorism, law and terrorism, the military response to terrorism, counter-terrorism and

anti-terrorism approaches, and governmental responses to terrorism.

Introduction to Emergency Preparedness Course Code: IMSE3002

This introductory course will investigate various catastrophic emergencies

with responses, as well as policies with procedures by Homeland Security. Emphasis

for this course will be placed in the following areas: emergency management,

hazardous risk analysis, social dimensions of disaster, and bio-defense mobilization.

Weapons of Mass Destruction and Handling Catastrophic Disasters Course Code: IMSE3003

In this course students will explore the history and use of weapons of mass

destruction. Emphasis will be placed in: understanding key concepts such as:

nuclear, chemical, biological, and radiological weapons with biological and chemical

warfare agents.

Border Security and Immigration Course Code: IMSE3004

In this course students will learn about past, present, and future border issues, including the impact to immigration laws and policies, as well as the infiltration of terrorists to the United States. Students will also learn to evaluate and develop strategies with countermeasures for protecting the U.S. borders, while examining the critical role that social, cultural, and economical factors play in border evasion.

Research and Public Policy Analysis Course Code: IMSE3005

In this course students will learn how to critically think and understand the research process for public policy, which includes learning about different relative research methodologies, evaluation with analysis, policy creation and implementation for the public sector.
