CLEAN-UP DAY At a meeting of the ('hamher of Commerce last Saturday evening, I resolution was passed asking the mayor to issue a protiaimaitin sett ,ing aside a day In the near future as "Clean-Up Day." i)r. W. L. Atkins. city health officer, was present anti called the attention of the body tt the necessity of such a day, 1iu what it meant to the, health of tin town, and asked their co-<operation in mak- Ing the day a success. Mayor Barnette has issued thi ' proclamatio, and states that nunlarous complaints have b,:n nade to him Ie- garding the sanitary condition of Ar- cadia, and that lie wishes to imire.rs it upon the citizens that their pernis's must be cleaned-up. Really there shouldn't he any niies- uity in their mayor issuing IL proeala- mation, the Chamber of Commere• passing a resolution or the health of- ricer being embarrassed by havinig to prefer charges agahist soneoime Ibe- cause their premises are not In a sani- tary condition, and we are sure that it would be a gross infringement upon the pride and dignity of every citi(n of Arcadia, for someone to accuse them of being untidy or not clenit about their homes. Arcadia is OUR HOME, and we are PROUD of it! In reality we are Just one big family, and my welfare is your welfare adl vice versa. Then we shouhld ie inter- ested in more than that little piece of ground 00x90 or 200x300) that our house sets on-we shouhl have the whole town at heart, aId no doubt the glret majority of our citizenis feel this way. But conditions have recent- ly existed that have made it necessary for most of us to devote our time ard thought to business affairs strictly. and we attribute the lack of civic ac- tivity to this cause. Now friends, a committee from the Chawber of Commerce or some other body may call on you ani ask thatt you close your business on Wednes- day, July 7th, and get out ani help clean-up the town, and if you resond youl will be doing one of the most patriotic deeds of your life--you will be ais ating in an effort to protect thle HEAL'rH OF YOUR FAMILY GbW Mason i Cmm yere , In corpor- * aated State of Louisiana, Parish of Bien- "flie. The lhng(,st comm(fercial pasaenger flilght in Canada was accomplished re- cently when an airplane with pilot, passenger, and me'hanle, flew from Wlrnilpeg, Man., to The Pus, Sask., a distance of 478 miles. The flying time for the trip was gix hours twelve iminutIs, says Popular Mechanics Meg- azine. The long flight was made withW out previous arrangements having been made for lanlding grounds, gasoline, etc. 'Tlhe landing at Hudson Bay Junction had to be made In a "mus- keg," or swamp, there being no other place, and great difilculty was experi- enced In "taking off." This is the first machine to fly north of 53 de- grees latitude in Saskatchewan, Mani- toha, and Ontario. On its ,arrival at The Pas, tremendous excitement en- sued, and Indians from afar came by the score to view the "Thunder Bird," as one old Cree Indian appropriatoly named the machine. New Building Material. An all-mineral substitute for wood, COmpi(pse4I of Portland cement, sand and ashestbs fiber, has been found to serve excellently as a base for walls. flotrs, etc., as, heing cellular In struc- ture, it takes nails easily and holis them firmly. The new material, says Iopmulahr Mlehanics Magazine, has the advantages over \\'ond of being fire a41d 4!Wil 'pprllof. This latter quality maikes it espeeially suitable for use as a subflnoring when comipositlion floors are used, as crnl(kihg of the liter is said to be elihinatel. As It has'the lriileI'ty (if lioldhig nalls wqel, Interior wo4od trhiinling and shingles may be nailed drirectly to the new hlase mate- rial. It is also said to pxessess gocd Insilating qualities. s Not Surprising, There was recently erected in a western town an orthopedic hospltal, tim architectural features of which be- ('4ne the sul)Ject of di.,Cus5ioi be- t.we4en two mneinblerR of a club, the 0444' i4 physician and the other an ar'hitect. "What do you think of it as a build. Inm?" asked the medico. The architect smileh,. Possessing every desirable feature found in standard machines, the many new yet thoroughly tested improvecmcnts give it title to the well deserved distinction, "Standard of Standards." The three-unit system of construction--a method peculiarly to Woodstock manufacture, in which the 0 base, top-plate and carriage each carries its own essential working prats-adds to the simplicity of the Woodstock, reducing to a minimum the likeli- hood of repairs and adjustments, and assuring long life, economy and satisfaction to the user. The improved method of regulating kc,-tcnsion to suit the individual touch, the combination variable line-spacer and platen-release, the hingedl paper- fingers with auxiliary feed-rolls, the simplified automatic ribbon-reverse, and the inbuilt card-and- Ask label-holder, are forward steps in mechanical re- finement and modern construction, all of whikh con- for tribute toward making the Woodstock the Super- Standard Typew riter. CLEAN-UP DAYAt a meeting of the ('hamher of

Commerce last Saturday evening, I

resolution was passed asking themayor to issue a protiaimaitin sett ,ingaside a day In the near future as"Clean-Up Day." i)r. W. L. Atkins.city health officer, was present anticalled the attention of the body ttthe necessity of such a day, 1iu whatit meant to the, health of tin town, and asked their co-<operation in mak-Ing the day a success.

Mayor Barnette has issued thi 'proclamatio, and states that nunlarouscomplaints have b,:n nade to him Ie-garding the sanitary condition of Ar-

cadia, and that lie wishes to imire.rsit upon the citizens that their pernis'smust be cleaned-up.

Really there shouldn't he any niies-uity in their mayor issuing IL proeala-

mation, the Chamber of Commere•passing a resolution or the health of-ricer being embarrassed by havinig toprefer charges agahist soneoime Ibe-cause their premises are not In a sani-tary condition, and we are sure that

it would be a gross infringement uponthe pride and dignity of every citi(nof Arcadia, for someone to accusethem of being untidy or not clenitabout their homes. Arcadia is OURHOME, and we are PROUD of it!In reality we are Just one big family, and my welfare is your welfare adlvice versa. Then we shouhld ie inter-

ested in more than that little pieceof ground 00x90 or 200x300) that our

house sets on-we shouhl have thewhole town at heart, aId no doubt theglret majority of our citizenis feelthis way. But conditions have recent-ly existed that have made it necessary

for most of us to devote our time ardthought to business affairs strictly.

and we attribute the lack of civic ac-tivity to this cause.

Now friends, a committee from theChawber of Commerce or some otherbody may call on you ani ask thattyou close your business on Wednes-day, July 7th, and get out ani helpclean-up the town, and if you resondyoul will be doing one of the mostpatriotic deeds of your life--you willbe ais ating in an effort to protectthle HEAL'rH OF YOUR FAMILY

Record Air Flight.The lhng(,st comm(fercial pasaenger

flilght in Canada was accomplished re-cently when an airplane with pilot, passenger, and me'hanle, flew fromWlrnilpeg, Man., to The Pus, Sask.,a distance of 478 miles. The flyingtime for the trip was gix hours twelveiminutIs, says Popular Mechanics Meg-azine. The long flight was made withWout previous arrangements having beenmade for lanlding grounds, gasoline, etc. 'Tlhe landing at Hudson BayJunction had to be made In a "mus-keg," or swamp, there being no otherplace, and great difilculty was experi-enced In "taking off." This is thefirst machine to fly north of 53 de-

grees latitude in Saskatchewan, Mani-toha, and Ontario. On its ,arrival atThe Pas, tremendous excitement en-sued, and Indians from afar came bythe score to view the "Thunder Bird,"as one old Cree Indian appropriatolynamed the machine.
