). Proclamation $y Forest Settlement Officer . ? When a notification has #een

issed nder 3ection @, (orest 3ettle$entofficer shall p#lish in the local "ernaclarin e"er! town and "illage in the neigh#orhood of the land co$prised therein, a

procla$ation '-a. specif!ing, as nearl! as possi#le, the sitation and li$its of the proposed forest:

-#. explaining the conse?ences which, as hereinafter pro"ided, will ense on thereser"ation of sch forest: and

-c. fixing a period of not less than three $onths fro$ the date of sch procla$ation,and re?iring e"er! person clai$ing an! right $entioned in 3ection @ or 3ection 0

within sch period either to present to the (orest 3ettle$ent officer a written notice

10. reatment of claims relatin( to practice of shiftin( cultivation. ? -). Inthe case of the clai$ relating to the practice of shifting clti"ation, the (orest

3ettle$ent 7fficer shall record a state$ent setting forth the particlars of the clai$and of an! local rle or order nder which the practice is allowed or reglated and

s#$it the state$ent to the 3tate ;o"ern$ent, together with his opinion as towhether the practice shold #e per$itted or prohi#ited wholl! or in part%

-+. 7n receipt of the state$ent and opinion, the 3tate ;o"ern$ent $a! $a>e anorder per$itting or prohi#iting the practice wholl! or in part%

-4. If sch practice is per$itted wholl! or in part, the (orest 3ettle$ent 7fficer $a!

arrange for its existence%-a. #! altering the li$its of the land nder settle$ent so as to exclde land of

sfficient extent, of a sita#le >ind, and in a localit! reasona#l! con"enient for theprposes of the clai$ants, or

-#. #! casing certain portions of the land nder settle$ent to #e separatel!de$arcated, and gi"ing per$ission to the clai$ants to practice shifting clti"ation

therein nder sch conditions as he $a! prescri#e%-@. All arrange$ents nder s#section -4. shall #e s#8ect to the pre"ios sanction

to the 3tate ;o"ern$ent%-0. The practice of shifting clti"ation shall in all cases #e dee$ed a pri"ilege s#8ect

to control, restriction and a#olition #! the 3tate ;o"ern$ent%11. Po!er to ac+uire land over !hich ri(ht is claimed. ? -). In the case of aclai$ to a right in or o"er an! land, other than a right of wa! or right of pastre, or a

right to forestprodce or a watercorse, the (orest 3ettle$entofficer shall an order

ad$itting or re8ecting the sa$e in whole or in part%-+. If sch clai$ is ad$itted in whole or in part, the (orest 3ettle$entofficer shall

-i. exclde sch land fro$ the li$its of the proposed forest: or

12. Order on claims to ri(hts of pasture to or forest-produce. ? In the caseof a clai$ to rights of pastre or to forestprodce, the (orest 3ettle$ent 7fficer

shall pass an order ad$itting or re8ecting the sa$e in whole or in part%1. Record to $e made $y Forest Settlement Officer. ? The (orest 3ettle$ent

7fficer, when passing an! order nder 3ection )+, shall record, so far as $a! #e

practica#le, '-a. the na$e, fatherGs na$e, caste, residence and occpation of the person clai$ingthe right: and

-#. the designation, position and area of all fields or grops of fields -if an!., and thedesignation and position of all #ildings -if an!. in respect of which the exercise of

sch right is clai$ed%1". Record !here he admits claim . ? If the (orest 3ettle$entofficer ad$its in

whole or in part an! clai$ nder 3ection )+, he shall also record the extent to whichthe clai$ is so ad$itted, specif!ing the n$#er and description of the cattle which

the clai$ant is fro$ ti$e to ti$e entitled to grae or recei"e, and sch otherparticlars as the case $a! re?ire% He shall also record whether the ti$#er or other

which is to #e reser"ed, and declaring the sa$e to #e reser"ed fro$ a date fixed #!the notification%-+. (ro$ the date so fixed sch forest shall #e dee$ed to #e a reser"ed forest%

21. Pu$lication of translation of such notification in nei(h$ourhood of

forest. ? The (orestofficer shall, #efore the date fixed #! sch notification, case atranslation thereof into the local "ernaclar to #e p#lished in e"er! town and "illage

in the neigh#orhood of the forest%22. Po!er to revise arran(ement made under Section 1& or Section 1,.

3ection )0 #e ta>en in lie of an! order of sch proceedings, or that the rights

reser"ed forest, pro"ided that a s#stitte for the wa! of water corse so stopped,

which the 3tate ;o"ern$ent dee$s to #e reasona#l! con"enient, alread! exists, orhas #een pro"ided or constrcted #! the (orestofficer in lie thereof%

2). 3cts prohi$ited in such forest. ? =-). An! person who '

-a. $a>es an! fresh clearing prohi#ited #! 3ection 0, or

-#. sets fire to a reser"ed forest, or, in contra"ention of an! rles $ade #! the 3tate;o"ern$ent in this #ehalf, >indles an! fire, or lea"es an! fire #rning, in sch

$anner as to endanger sch a forest:-c. >indles, >eeps or carries an! fire except at sch seasons as the (orestofficer $a!

notif! in this #ehalf:

-d. trespasses or pastres cattle, or per$its cattle to trespass:

-e. cases an! da$age #! negligence in felling an! tree or ctting or dragging an!ti$#er:

-f. fells, girdles, lops, or #rns an! tree or strips off the #ar> or lea"es fro$, orotherwise da$ages, the sa$e:

-g. ?arries stone, #rns li$e or charcoal, or collects, s#8ects to an! $anfactringprocess, or re$o"es, an! forestprodce:

"". 3ll persons $ound to aid in case of accident at depot . ? In case of an!accident or e$ergenc! in"ol"ing danger to an! propert! at an! sch depot e"er!

person e$plo!ed at sch depot, whether #! the ;o"ern$ent or #! an! pri"ateperson, shall render assistance to an! (orestofficer or Policeofficer de$anding his

aid in a"erting sch danger or secring sch propert! fro$ da$age or loss%

CHAPTER VIII
