FORUM ACCESSFORUM ACCESSThe Rules:
• Only utility employees (including corporate representatives) whose site is a current ISTOG member may have forum access.
• It is possible to register for forum access yourself via the istog.net website.
• After you register, it appears as if you are not registered, based on the screen stating the action could not be completed. But you really are
registered just not activated yet.
• The webmaster (Shelly Neyhard) has to activate you.
• The best thing to do is to contact Shelly and she will register you and activate you at the same time.

Forum layout has been revised.
Three primary topical areas have been identified:• Scope (topics related to program scope).
•Implementation (topics dealing with implementing the program)
•Instrumentation (topics dealing with instrumentation issues).
A General IST Related Topic area has been added that addresses issues common to both pumps and valves.
A link has been added that takes the user to the ASME Website for viewing Code Inquiries.
A link has been added that takes the user to the Snubber Users Group Homepage.

• All entries have been indexed for greatly improved search capability.

• Search for anything containing “Ridgell”.

• Search returned 22 matches containing “Ridgell”.
Search looked across multiple forum topics.

• Earl Ridgell was looking for a specific attachment that he submitted to the Forum some time back.
• Simple search expanded to include “Ridgell” and “Attached”.

• Enhanced simple search identified two matches that contained attachments submitted by Earl
Ridgell.
• Earl could quickly open the attachments and download a copy to his computer.

ADVANCED SEARCH FEATURE DEMONSTRATION
• User enters specific search criteria.
• User can select single or multiple forum areas to search rather than the entire database.
• User controls what parts of individual entries to search.

• User can select how the data is to be sorted.
• User can select the time period to be searched.
• User can limit the amount of text returned for found records. 300 is the default.

User enters three criteria:
• Search for any entries containing “check”.
• Search for any entries containing “valve”.
• Search for any entries starting with “ultra”.

Database returns the following:
• 12 matches all containing the specified criteria.
• “Ultracheck” and “Ultrasonics” were both found since the user assigned the wildcard character “*” which returns any word starting with “ultra”.

Search for Author:
• Enter name as contained in database or use wildcard “*” increase chances of desired data match.
• “*Lippy” entered to find anything authored by Ron Lippy.

Database returns the following:
• Only 9 matches where Ron Lippy authored the entry in the forum.

Search Entire Database:
• Enter name as contained in database or use wildcard “*” increase chances of desired data match.
• “*Lippy” entered to find anything containing “Lippy”.
ADVANCED SEARCH FEATURE DEMONSTRATION
Database returns the following:
• 35 matches where Ron Lippy responded to the forum.
• In almost all cases the webmaster enters ISTOG.net email activity from the users.
• The 9 matches where Ron Lippy authored the entry were not included in the 35 matches.
NOTE:
