the JETMET Run Selection

• Missing ET definitions / Criteria

• Results for p13.06 Post-shutdown data:

• Runs from 172400 to 177830 (June 8th)

64 pb-1 reconstructed

• Compare with pre-shutdown data

Total lumi : 115 pb-1

Jet/Met prescriptionsDecember 2002

All analyses based on p13 should NOT use the unclustered energy in the CH (layers 15,16,17)

They should use the CH cells only when they are in towers which are part of a jet satisfying the Jet-Met Criteria

From METC to METB (cf JCCB)

Reduce fake jets using - f90 variable (p13) - new jet seeding (p14)

- T42 (p14?)

Criteria to select good runs?* Criteria must be: Physics independent

Lumi independentRobust

* Inclusive Criteria (MET oriented):Average missing ET (x and y component) must be centered to 0Rms of missing ET is dependent on process/lumi but is slowly varyingScalar ET is not constrained must be used only with caution

* Exclusive Criteria (JET oriented) Phi distribution of the Jets must be flatJet multiplicity is physics dependent: stable for a given trigger mix

only the phi uniformity (but it’s already a lot!) can be safely tested w/o making physics assumptions

Good Run DefinitionOnly Runs/Files with >= 1000 events are considered, in order to have

enough statistical precision on the average/rms measurements.

Define the average shift: MET-xy = sqrt [ (<MET-x>)2 +(<MET-y>)2] and similar def. for RMS-xy = sqrt [ ( RMS-x )2 +( RMS-y )2]

To declare a RUN “GOOD”:

1) Require MET-xy < 6 GeV in all files of a run, and MET-xy < 4 GeV in average

2) Require RMS-xy < 18 GeV in all files of a run and RMS-xy < 16 GeV in average

3) Require scalar ET > 70 GeV in all files of a run and scalar ET > 80 GeV

From the logbook:

CAP Marco Verzocchi Inherited store 2507 from the previous shiftcrew. …….At around 4:00 (roughly 3/4 of run 176568) two BLS started misbehaving, giving 4 contiguous hot cells at (eta, phi)= (-31/-32,56/57). This was first noticed by the remote GM shifter, and then it took almost 2 hours to fix it (with help from Nirmalya).

The runs affected by this problem are 176568 (last quarter), 176569 and 176570. After the problem was fixed went back to normal smooth running. There is no explanation for the fact that the two BLS boards started misbehaving almost simultaneously.

Runs 176568-70

Summary

New run selection performed on post-shutdown data

On the post-shutdown data, we see a slight degradation of the calo quantities, not a dramatic effect except in some short ranges 176568 - 176591

We have about 64 pb-1 recoed / 57 pb-1 good runs available after shutdown, i.e. 91% of the data

This fraction can be increased by making the run selection file by file, or lumi block based.
