The Kitavan Anti-acne Diet
The prevalence of acne vulgaris and adult acne tends to be much higher in westernized and industrialized societies than in other nations. In fact, scientists state that up to 95 percent of the populations of such countries as the United States and Australia experience problems with acne at some point during their lives. However, one island community in the South Pacific reports no current or historical incidence of acne among its residents.
The Kitavan Anti-acne Diet
Researchers believe that the diet followed by the people of Kitava deserves much of the credit for the apparent nonexistence of acne in the Kitavan society. The Kitavan diet, which bears a close resemblance to that of primitive peoples, incorporates native foods such as fish, tubers, coconut, and fruit. In addition, Kitavans consume little or no tea and coffee, dairy products, or alcohol. This natural diet prevents blood sugar spikes, which instigate the production of androgen, which is a contributing factor in the development of acne.
