As a result, the fraternal year beginning in 2015 marks the 110th Anniversary of the Knights of Columbus serving Brockville. Feeding The Flock By Father Jacob Chelamootil
My dear Brother Knights,
I am honoured to be the Chaplain for Council 1049, and am equally privileged to be a brother Knight. I am very happy and thoroughly enjoy the work you do in the community amongst our brothers and sisters. Your spiritual, material, and physical contributions for the greater good of all are most notable. I am grateful to this council for your kindness, generosity, time, and talents that you share in both parishes.
“Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” (Matthew 25:40) It is very apparent the members of this council have taken the message of this gospel passage to heart. Your actions speak very loudly.
I very much appreciate the donations and various services you render for the well-being of St. John Bosco Parish. I extend my prayers and best wishes for a safe and fun summer vacation. I look forward to the coming 2015-2016 fraternal year as your Chaplain. May God bless your families.
Vivat Jesus, Fr. Jacob Chelamootil Chaplain
District Deputy Report By S/K Rick Fraser
Having just finished my second year as District Deputy, it continues to be my pleasure to work with the Councils in District 57. I have found Councils to be receptive to suggestions or ideas that are brought forward. As everyone is aware, membership growth continues to be a struggle; however, congratulations to Council 11725 for meeting their quota. Membership Growth will continue to be a focus. Fraternal Benefits Advisor Chuck Larter and I will work with Councils to achieve their goals. Other positive notes to share include Council 6882 having hosted a successful Seminarians Dinner, Council 5880 continuing to be a great host for the District Free Throw, and Council 1049 for their standout job as they continue to host the Regional Free Throw and other events. Many thanks to all the Councils for their continued efforts in all activities. A new fraternal year began on July 1, 2015. S/K James MacKenzie has served District 57 as the District Warden for the past two years; his Service ended June 30. I thank James for his service but more for his Counsel as I learned the role of District Deputy. As of July 1, S/K Stephen Dillabough will serve dual roles as Grand Knight for Council 11725 and as District Warden for District 57. I look forward to working with him. As we approach the Supreme Convention in Toronto in 2016, there will be many requests of Councils and Districts. My hope is that by working together, we will approach the Ontario and Supreme Conventions in positive form. Looking forward, Ontario State will be hosting the Supreme Convention in Toronto and Council 11725 will continue to support our Priests by hosting the Seminarians Dinner in 2016. You will notice some changes in the State Board structure as new State Deputy Alain Cayer endeavours to maximize resources. I look forward to serving the District as the State Representative and to assisting Councils ensure a successful and positive fraternal year. "We are all called to BE the Good Shepherd." Proud Knights and friends of Council 1049 exhibiting their horticultural prowess at St. Francis Xavier cemetery in Brockville. Approximately 17 Knights and helpers planted flowers at 94 different plots. Well done!
Knights of Columbus Council 1049 have been glad to lend a helping hand to other agencies pursuing a great cause within Brockville and surrounding community. The Salvation Army Kettle Drive at Christmas time is one that many members have helped out on an annual basis. Pictured at left is Stu Glashan who volunteered for the 6:30 p.m. shift at the Superstore in Brockville. The kettle shifts began at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday morning, December 6. Knights that helped included Tom Leeder, Peter Vanschie, Andy Sequin, Tim Glashan, Stu Glashan, and Jack McNamee. Many thanks to all and to all a great night!

Sir Knights: One of the proudest moments in my years in our Assembly occurred at the recent annual 4th degree exemplification in Cornwall. We witnessed our very own Sir Knight Tim Glashan perform his first duty as a member of the Cardinal McGuigan Province 4th Degree Team. Sir Knight Tim's part in the team was to over-see the audio-visual portion of the program. Through the years, we have had members of our Assembly act as a guard, but, this was the first time a member was directly involved as part of "the team" (white jacket and all). Congratulations Tim on a job well done! On behalf of our Assembly, I extend to you and Christina all of God's Blessings. S/K John McAuley Faithful Navigator

Dear Friends and e-mail buddies, Many of you know of Martha’s passing on April 27, 2015 and that I had planned a move to Gananoque in early March to spend more time with her. However, the Good Lord had a different agenda for Martha. Our house sold conditionally and the mover was booked prior to her passing, so I decided with mixed feelings to continue with the move. Wish me luck as I now move on to Retirement Residence living. My contact information is: Fox Run By-The-River Telephone: 613 382 5529 104 Thousands Island Parkway E-Mail: [email protected] Unit 313 RR2 Gananoque ON K7G 2V4 Keep in touch and may God Bless, S/K David Crawford

Knights of Columbus
St. Francis Assembly # 3495 (Established 2014)
St. Mary’s Parish
Collingwood, ON
July 19, 2015
My Dear Brother Knights of Council 1049,
On behalf of myself and my family I wish to thank you for your gift of the Holy Mass in memory of our mother
Josephine Bondi. Some members also gave a Mass on their own. The members of 1049 were very good to both
our parents at home and when they were living in the St. Lawrence Lodge with visits.
A thank you to your District Deputy who attended visitation as well as other brothers including the six Knights
of the Altar who served at her funeral Mass and the Knights who tend to the family graves with flowers. It was
comforting to see the involvement of the Knights of Columbus with our mother’s passing and it’s comforting to
know that the widows are not forgotten by our order.
Yours in Christ,
Frank C. Bondi

On the Lighter Side
Two Aussies, Ferret and Knackers, were adrift in a life boat. While rummaging through the boat's
provisions, Ferret stumbled across an old lamp. He rubbed it vigorously; sure enough, out popped a
genie! However, this genie stated he could only deliver one wish, not the standard three.
Without giving much thought, Ferret blurted out, "Turn the entire ocean into my favourite beer!"
The genie clapped his hands with a deafening crash. Immediately, the sea turned into his preferred
thirst quencher. The genie vanished. Only the gentle lapping of beer on the hull broke the stillness
as the two men pondered their new circumstances.
Knackers looked disgustedly at his seafaring mate after Ferret’s wish had been granted. After a
long, tension-filled moment Knackers finally said,
"Nice going twit … now we're going to have to pee in the boat!"

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS – ASSEMBLY 1893
(Year End Report - Abridged Version - June 2015)
Sir Knights:
The past Fraternal year has been pretty good with a large number of events in which we provided an
Honour Guard either within our own Assembly area or at our Mother Church in Kingston. Providing a
Guard for His Grace when he is in our area gave us the opportunity to visit five of our Churches over the
course of the year. And that is good.
We participated in the annual Remembrance Day Services in Brockville, North Augusta, and Prescott. It
would be nice to expand that to more communities. In Prescott, we were part of the Second Annual
Corpus Christi Procession. Once again, we proudly marched in the annual March for Life in Ottawa.
Perhaps an objective for next year would be to visit every church in our area which would include St.
Cecilia in Iroquois, St. Daniel in South Mountain, St. Lawrence O’Toole in Spencerville, and St. Theresa
in North Augusta.
This year we mourned the passing of Sir Knights Ron Wardle, Angus MacDonald, Gerry Botting and
Julien Casaubon. May their souls continue to rest in Peace.
I am really pleased that we Exemplified three Brothers: Bruce Purcell (Lady Alicia) from South
Mountain Council, Klaas deVries (Lady Sharon) from Prescott Council, and Tom Varley (Lady Cindy)
from Prescott Council. We also welcomed two transfers: Michel Sabourin from Smiths Falls to South
Mountain, and Stan Abrahamowicz from Ottawa to Brockville Council. So, in total, our numbers should
be up by one. And that is good.
At our last meeting, I asked the question, “What can we do to improve our Assembly?” Some thoughts
that came forth included:
• We should do more spiritually,
• Our Assembly should work with the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Brockville to help fundraise,
• We should be allowed to wear an overcoat under our capes in cooler weather,
• We should do more work within our schools.
Over the summer please give this your consideration and email suggestions to [email protected] .
