The Kurds and MongoliansBy: Itztla Gutierrez
Who Are the Kurds?
The Kurds are a nomadic Indo-European people who live in the mountains and uplands in a place called “Kurdistan” where Iran, Iraq and Turkey meet. They are related to the Persian but have their own language. There are about 25-35 million Kurds worldwide. Although they are mainly Muslim but they are also Jews, Christians, and from several other sects.
Who Are the Mongolians?
The Mongolians are nomadic people who are from a landlocked area in central Eurasia, the greatest terrestrial land in the world. The land is mainly mountainous and is dotted with many lakes. The name Mongol comes from a small tribe when their leader, Genghis Khan, began a conquest that would, sooner or later, encompass an enormous empire stretching from Asia to Europe.
How Are the Mongolians and Kurds Similar?
First of all, the Kurds and Mongolians are both nomadic people. These two peoples did have land but it was not sufficient enough for survival. They both wanted to have their own lands or empire. Unfortunately, the Kurds were unable to gain a separate country. Unlike the Mongolians who were able to conquer many lands and cast fear among most of Eurasia.
