Few words about

our city’s lake

LOCATIONPamvotis is the largest lake of Epirus.It is in the

centre of Ioannina in northern Greece. The lake

has small fishing ports and a boating port. There

is a boat service to Ioannina Island which is the

only inhabited lake island. However, it is the

most important lake in Epirus and the second oldest lake in Europe.

SOURCES OF LIFEPamvotis Lake is the most beautiful lake in

Greece. Waters come from natural springs and

streams.

FLORA AND FAUNAThe dense trees are the dominant

piece of a beautiful ecosystem that

has a reputation in the region for its rich flora and fauna.

COMMERCIAL FISHINGThe lake is a great source of life for the city of

Ioannina because of commercial fishing.

MODERN INTERNATIONAL SPORTS

It is also the site of modern international sports such as skiing, canoeing, kayaking.

ATMOSPHEREThe "wet" Pamvotis is responsible for the wonderful

winter atmosphere that adorns Ioannina and the

glistening summer image.
