HYMNS AND THE JOY OF SINGING
On July 8th all of God’s children will be making “a joyful noise” at Franklin Presbyterian as we sing the
hymns that are the most meaningful to YOU! What a special day and what a special opportunity to
worship God!
Our hymns, if we let them, will take us to another place-a place where each of us can openly express
what can not be put into words alone: LOVE [Though I May Speak]; JOY [Joy to the World]; REVERENCE
[How Great Thou Art]; HOPE [My Hope is Built on Nothing Less]; SORROW [Beneath the Cross of Jesus];
FAITH [My Shepherd Will Supply My Need], to name a few-and the lists go on and on. What a
wonderful treasure we have! Hymns have the power to signal the beginning and ending of life, to
comfort grieving, to melt hardened hearts, and fill the soul with joy. They connect people over space
and time, define who we are as Christians, teach us the truths we find in scripture, and simply, make our
world a better place. We should never sing them casually or choose them lightly.
After Hymn Sing Sunday is over, we will continue worshiping with the hymns that we have grown to
love, but, with new hymnals in hand, we will also be learning the hymns of a new generation. That
sounds great to me! New treasures are waiting. Those of you who know me well know that I would sing
all day if I could! (By the way, if you would like to know me better, we would love for you to join us in
choir: Wednesdays, 6:00-7:30 upstairs.)
July 1st you will get one more chance to vote for YOUR favorite hymn! Don’t be caught napping. Vote
for your favorites. Then, on Hymn Sing Sunday, sing like no one is watching! Make a joyful noise unto
the Lord! Come into his presence with singing! Enjoy a special treat as dulcimers join us in worship as
well. Come ready to share a smile and participate in a meaningful worship experience.

P.S. By the way, my guess is that a significant number of you digressed into your childhood last Sunday
when the choir sang, “This Little Light of Mine”. Bet you sang along, too, didn't you?

New Team Green and Cigarette Recycling FPC is excited to announce the formation of Team Green, a group of members who will search for ways to “green” the church. Members are: Marla Knight-Dutille, Linda Knight, Jo Becker, Margaret Crowder, Debbie Wyatt and Caren Gibson. The team’s first initiative to capture cigarette butts for recycling worked through the Christian Service and Building and Maintenance Committees. FPC’s new cigarette recycling receptacle has already been purchased and installed on the gazebo. Team Green will work with AA to make sure the butts are emptied frequently and mailed back to Terracycle for recycling (with a free shipping label-there is no cost to recycle). If you have any ideas for Team Green or if you’d like to join our group, please contact Marla Knight-Dutille.

Sign ups for the Summer Feeding Program are now posted on the bulletin board in the education wing.
Volunteers for July are still needed!
What is the Summer Feeding Program?
Participants form FPC pick up pre-made lunches at the local middle school and then transport and hand out lunches and milks at three locations in Franklin. This effort helps to ensure that children in our local community continue to receive nourishment when school is not in session.

If you haven’t started bringing in items for the Yard Sale—start now! When you bring them in, you may place them in the lower basement. If you are cleaning house please consider FPC’s yard sale for your donations! All proceeds go toward Christian Service and Mission.

If you wish to give flowers to the glory of God in honor or in memory of a loved one, please sign up on the flower chart, located on the bulletin board in the education wing. Write your loved one’s name(s), and whether your gift is in honor or memory of that special person. Flowers will be provided and you may keep the flowers on the day that your arrangement is given.
Please note on the flower chart if you wish to keep the flowers, to ensure that a proper vase may be chosen by the floral team.
