A large number of collegiate, alumni and honorary; faculty advisors, deans, current and past ocers, award recipients and guests enjoyed a banquet and an evening of reflection on the golden anniversary of the Society and recognition of this year’s awardees. The evening’s program began with the premier of the Jim Albritton video production, Phi Lambda Sigma a Legacy of Achievement, a Vision for Tomorrow. The 2014-2015 Executive Committee commissioned the creation of this video to celebrate the Society’s 50 th anniversary by looking back at our beginning, commenting on our present, and discussing our future. The video is available on our web site. The highlight of the evening was to have Charlie Thomas, the Society’s founder and Ben Lewis, one of the original Alpha founding members, in attendance. The 2014-2015 executive committee members were recognized for their service to the Society: President -elect Kami Dell, Past -president Alicia Bouldin, Speaker of the House Krutika Mediwala and Member -at -large Bernice Man. In addition, our regional liaisons were also acknowledged for their service over the course of the year. The remaining program featured the Society’s award and recognitions. Each chapter is encouraged to recognize an alumni member and chapter member of the year. Mary Euler, PharmD FAPhAExecutive Director

Dr. Euler serves as the Associate Dean for Student Services at the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. Prior to arriving in Morgantown, she served for 4 years as McGee Chair for Doctoral Studies and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy and 21 years as a faculty member and administrator at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy. Her academic career includes experience in curricular design, faculty development, distance education, experiential learning, leadership and professional development, student affairs and academic service learning. Her teaching interests include professional communications, pharmacy history, patient education, healthcare ethics and vaccine-preventable illnesses. She is an APhA certified immunizing pharmacist and trainer. Euler has served for 15 years as Executive Director for Phi Lambda Sigma, the pharmacy leadership society and is the recipient of many professional and community service awards including the 1997 APhA-ASP Outstanding Advisor Award, the 2003 APhA Gloria Niemeyer Francke Leadership Mentor Award, the Missouri Pharmacist Making a Difference Award, the UMKC Mathew Wilson Award and the Procter & Gamble National Leadership Award. In 2011, she was inducted as a Fellow of the American Pharmacists’ Association. Actively engaged in many pharmacy associations, she currently serves as the chair for the PCAT-Kaplan advisory committee, served as the Chair for the AACP Ethics SIG in 2012-13, is a member of the AACP- PCAT Advisory Board, and has served on the NABP PCOA Task Force and the standard setting committee for the NABP FPGEE. Engaged in her community, Euler co-chaired the H1N1 education committee for the Kanawha County Health Department, served on the health department’s Multi-Agency Emergency Response Task Force, is a volunteer in the WV Medical Reserve Corp and for St Vincent DePaul. Dr. Euler enjoys yoga, kayaking, gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.

Brandon T. Jennings, Pharm.D, BCACPImmediate Past President

Dr. Brandon Jennings is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the Shenandoah University School of Pharmacy. He joined the faculty at Shenandoah University in August 2015 after spending the last eight years as a clinical faculty member at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. Dr. Jennings received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia in 2006 and completed a Community Pharmacy Practice Residency at the same institution in partnership with Kmart Pharmacy. He joined the University of Utah faculty in August 2007.

As a clinical faculty member, Dr. Jennings is responsible for teaching in the pharmacy curriculum and maintaining a clinical practice site in primary/ambulatory care. His primary research interests include proving that pharmacists are valuable members of the outpatient care team and the pharmacist’s role in serving a medically underserved population. In 2011, Dr. Jennings established a PGY1 community residency program at the University of Utah and he plans to transition to residency program director for the PGY-1 Ambulatory Care Residency at Shenandoah University School of Pharmacy within the next year.

Dr. Jennings was initiated in the Beta Nu chapter (Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy) of Phi Lambda Sigma in 2004. He has served as the chapter advisor to the Alpha Chi chapter at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy and was just assigned to the chapter advisor role to the Beta Phi Chapter (Shenandoah University School of Pharmacy).

Kamila Dell, PharmD BCPSPresident

Hello PLS members! I wanted to congratulate each and everyone one of you for being a leader in pharmacy and moving our profession forward. Phi Lambda Sigma is here for you, not only to recognize your achievements, but also to help develop and shape you as a leader of tomorrow.

I am an Assistant Professor in the University of South Florida College of Pharmacy. I had the privilege of starting at this college before the first students were admitted into the program and then watch them progress through the program and graduate this spring. Prior to this, I was an Assistant Professor at the University of Utah. I completed my Pharmacy Practice and Critical Care residencies at the University of Utah Hospitals and I continued to work there as a clinical pharmacist in the surgical intensive care unit before embarking on an academic career. I received my PharmD. from the UNC School of Pharmacy. As a student, I was very involved in pharmacy organizations, student government, and creating a better experience for patients, students, and other pharmacists. I am passionate about my role as an educator and as a clinical pharmacist. My specialty area is critical care and I teach in this area both didactically and experientially. I strongly believe everyone can be a leader if they tap into their potential.

Kem Krueger, PharmD, PhD President-Elect

Kem Krueger, Pharm.D., Ph.D. currently serves as the Associate Dean for Assessment and Academic Affairs at the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy. He has experience as a pharmacist, educator, and researcher. His research interests are in health economics and outcomes research, specifically measuring the clinical and economic impact of pharmacy services, medication adherence, and studying models of primary care delivery in rural areas. He teaches bioethics, research ethics, pharmacoeconomics and pharmacy jurisprudence courses. He helped establish an inter-professional Geriatric Evaluation and Management clinic at the Kansas City VA Hospital and a pharmacist-based clinical support service for Auburn University and the Alabama Public Education Employees Health Insurance Program. His current research focuses on delivering patient-centered care by linking the patient, primary care providers and pharmacists using tele-health technology. Dr. Krueger has received numerous research and teaching awards including an ASHP Pharmacy Research and Education Foundation Pharmacy Practice Research Award, the 2000 Auburn University School of Pharmacy Outstanding Teacher Award, the 2009 WPhA Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award, and the 2009 UW School of Pharmacy Excellence in Teaching Award. In 2004 he was selected to participate in the Japanese Pharmaceutical Society Visiting Scholars Exchange Program.

Dr. Bonnarens is currently Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the Pharmacy program of the Manchester University College of Pharmacy, Natural, and Health Sciences in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He received a BS in general science and a BS in pharmacy from Oregon State University in 1990. He worked as a pharmacist in several practice settings, including independent, chain, and hospital pharmacies. In 1992 he completed the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Executive Residency, followed by his employment with the National Community Pharmacists Association in Alexandria, Virginia, until 1996. Dr. Bonnarens pursued graduate education, earning an MS in 1999 and a PhD in 2003 in pharmacy administration from the University of Mississippi. Dr. Bonnarens began his academic career as an assistant professor in the Social and Administrative Pharmacy Division at the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy, where he worked from 2003 – 2007. In 2007, he joined the new Pacific University School of Pharmacy and served as Assistant Dean for Student and Alumni Affairs and Associate Professor in Pharmacy Administration through 2011. Leadership has been a strong interest for Dr. Bonnarens, supported by his research as well as his dedication to a variety of professional organizations, highlighted by his service as a national executive committee member for Phi Lambda Sigma, the Pharmacy Leadership Society. Additional interests include entrepreneurship, patient care service development, work-force issues, and management issues facing pharmacy practitioners in various practice settings.

Joseph Bonnarens, BS-Pharm, MS, PhD Treasurer

Jillian Foster PharmD MBAParliamentarian

Jillian Foster, Pharm. D, MBA is currently the System Pharmacy Service Line Administrator for Baptist Memorial Healthcare Corporation (BMHCC). With a corporate office in Memphis, TN, BMHCC has 14 hospitals and 19 infusion centers in MS, TN, and AR. Jillian provides strategic and clinical direction to the BMHCC pharmacy team that includes 200 pharmacists and 200 technicians.

Jillian graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy after completing a Health Policy Fellowship with United States Senator Thad Cochran. She also completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY1) and Specialty Residency (PGY2) with an emphasis in Pharmacy Management and Administration at North Mississippi Medical Center (NMMC) in Tupelo, MS. She worked in Tupelo as the Pharmacy Benefits Manager at NMMC before moving to Oxford, MS as the Director of Pharmacy for Baptist Memorial Hospital- North Mississippi.

Jillian is the on the Phi Lambda Sigma National Executive Committee serving as Parliamentarian and is Immediate Past President of the Mississippi Pharmacists Association. She is the Chair of the American Cancer Society Gala for the Metro-Memphis area.

Jillian and her husband Doug, live in Olive Branch, MS with their two children, Autry (5) and Jane Franklin (3). The Fosters are members of First Baptist Church of Olive Branch, and they enjoy Ole Miss Athletics, the Memphis Zoo, and spending time outside and with family.

Dr. Lauren Willis has been the PLS webmaster since 2011. She transitioned to this role after serving as the Speaker of the House in 2010. She graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in 2012. She subsequently completed her PGY1 residency at the University of Chicago Medical Center and went on to complete her PGY2 residency at MD Anderson Cancer Center. After working for 1 year at MD Anderson as a Leukemia Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Lauren moved back to her hometown of Lexington, Kentucky to accept a new position as the Clinical Research Pharmacist at Markey Cancer Center. Professionally she is passionate about serving her patients and their families, educating others, research, and advancing our profession. Personally she is passionate about serving in her church and medical mission work. Her next mission trip will be in November 2015.  She comes from a close knit family, has one younger brother, and loves animals.

Anthony DeClue PharmD Candidate 2016Speaker of the House

Greetings from your new Speaker of the House, Anthony DeClue, a fourth-year student at the South Carolina College of Pharmacy at the Medical University of South Carolina campus. Anthony has a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina – Upstate in Interdisciplinary studies concentrating in the areas of English, Secondary Education, and Philosophy. In addition, Anthony has a master’s degree in English from Clemson University. This unique background has developed in Anthony an interest in analyzing texts and contexts through putting voices from different generations and regions together in conversation with one another. Anthony is most enthused about the opportunities this year to strengthen communication and information exchange between the various chapters of Phi Lambda Sigma as well as reinvigorating the involvement of alumni members of our organization with additional opportunities offered for alumni participation and engagement with our organization. Anthony would like you to know how honored he is to serve you and this organization as this year’s Speaker of the House.

Eileen Chen is currently a fourth year pharmacy student at the South Carolina College of Pharmacy - Medical University of South Carolina Campus in Charleston, South Carolina. Prior to pharmacy school, she attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was involved in a sorority called aKDPhi, Alpha Phi Omega, and the club cross country team. She has lived in Charleston, SC since she was 8 years old, but she was born in China and has also lived in Singapore for 5 years. For the past three years, she has become involved in many student organizations, such as President of her local SSHP chapter, Vice President of APhA-ASP chapter, and was also a past Pledgemaster of her Phi Delta Chi chapter. In her free time, her interests include a variety of things such as running (sign up for the Kiawah Half Marathon with her in December!), cats (she has one cat named Diesel), wine and cheese nights (not as classy as one would think on a student budget), and reading (John Green is her favorite author). Being a fourth year student, she already has some interesting stories about clinical rotations, so feel free to ask! On a side note, she is also traveling to Nome, Alaska, and LaHaina, Hawaii for two of her rotations. She is truly honored to be a part of this wonderful organization and hopes to accomplish many goals this year along-side her other Member-at-Large partner, Anthony!

Eileen Chen PharmD Candidate 2016 Member-At-Large

Anthony Elia is a current fourth year pharmacy and medicinal chemistry student at the Mylan School of Pharmacy - Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Prior to pharmacy school Anthony was a dancer, singer, actor, shot-put and discus thrower. In his free time Anthony is an avid reader (mainly dystopian and epic fantasy novels), runner and loves to workout. A personal goal of Anthony’s is to complete a full Iron Man before he turns 40. During his years in pharmacy school Anthony has become involved in a number of pharmacy and non pharmacy organizations such as, President of the Eta chapter of PLS, President of his Pharmacy Class, Communication and Technology Services Chair and a Pharmacy Senator for Duquesne’s Student Government Association, as well being involved in many of the other pharmacy organizations as a general member. Anthony is excited to be working with the Phi Lambda Sigma Executive Board this year as your Member-At-Large. He is also very fortunate and excited to have the opportunity to work along side his esteemed colleague Eileen and accomplish many goals

Our presence at MRMs will mainly include the exposition section, which takes place from 12:30 pm-2 pm on the Saturday afternoon of each MRM. Our main “goal” for MRMs is to promote PLS and to answer any questions chapters may have about the benefits of joining

this organization and to inform students of the endless leadership opportunities available within our

organization and local chapters.

Call For Committee Members Our National Executive Committee has some exciting new opportunities for all of you to become involved in. Please consider joining one of our committees if you are interested!

1. Global Expansion Committee – How can we expand PLS into other parts of the world? We want PLS to begin to have a presence in other parts of the world so we need help in creating materials to demonstrate why people should want to join PLS.

2. Communications Committee – How can we condense what other chapters have done to promote leadership development?

3. Alumni Engagement Committee – What opportunities can we take advantage of for additional active involvement from our alumni members at the chapter and national levels of PLS?

4. Website Advisory Committee – Could there be more improvements to the current PLS website? What ideas do you have?
