The Lenoir County Early College PHOENIX May 19, 2008 Vol. 1, No. 5 “P4K – People for Kids” P4K had a wonderful turnout for its first meeting! The Early College appreciates your support of our school and of your kids. The team accomplished many actions items: 1. Car wash scheduled for Saturday, May 10 At the school board building lot: 10 – 2 Please come out to support us and bring your friends, family, and neighbors. 2. Extended the “Buddy, Can You Spare a Buck” Fund Raiser – ASK YOUR KIDS ABOUT THIS!!! Student who raises most: $25 gift certificate to store of choice Top homeroom: PIZZA PARTY!!!! 3. Teacher Appreciation Week – Tammy Carter received volunteers to help the organization recognize the teachers from May 5 - 8. 4. We have the volunteers for EOC testing! Lighting the path of success so that others may follow! We NEED YOU!! A HUGE Thank You!!! To Our Parent Volunteers The week of May 5 – 10 was Teacher Appreciation Week. All of this in preparation for a specialFriday schedule to honor students withgood grades by providing an opportunityto celebrate the completion of their LCChealth and PE classes with a modified“Field Day!”

Important Visitors Honor Us

LCECHS was quite busy with visitors andauditors and advisors!!

On April 30th, De McKenzie observed ourteachers during classes. De is arepresentative from the New SchoolsProject.

Dr. Julia Mobley also visited our school toobserve the teachers and students inclass on Friday, April 25th and Thursday,May 1. Dr. Mobley is our Early CollegeStart Coach.

Technician from Apple Computers cameto install a server so our students willhave access to 35 laptops. 25 of thecomputers are on a cart for use in any ofthe classrooms. The other 10 will beprovided to the staff.

First Car WashOur first car wash was held on Saturday,May 10th, at the School Board Officeparking lot. The Fund Raiser made over$300 for P4K.

Most who participated returned to schoolon Monday with sunburns that lookedreally painful!

Thank you to all who came out to washcars or support our cause in any way!

Computers for Use in ClassroomsAt long last, we now have a computer cartwith computers. The cart can be used inany of the classrooms to provideadditional learning opportunities toenhance learning.
