Have you wondered what all this chatter is about “book groups”? Have you been cautiously curious but haven’t taken any action to get involved? Here’s your chance to join the stimulating fun in a non-threatening environment. Check-out the Books–the-Other Channel book discussion group. Any one is welcome to attend. You may attend a particular session if the book is of special interest to you or you can attend as often as you like. We have chosen the books to read for the coming year and people to facilitate them. The schedule of choices is on our website or can be picked up at the library. When you attend a discussion, it’s your choice as to the level of your participation. You may sit back and enjoy the interchange or you can jump right in with your thoughts and opinions. All are welcome. Oh, and did we mention, we don’t just have an appetite for books, but treats are always served. We generally meet the fourth Tuesday of the month. We do vary that a bit though around holidays. We meet in the lower level of the Demmer Library at 6:30 and are usually talked out by 8:00, although social talk can last as long as you like. The Books-the-Other Channel book discussion group will be discussing “Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail” by Cheryl Strayed on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in the lower level of the Demmer Library. For more information please call the Library at 715-546-3391. Upcoming Book Discussions: 03/26/13 – The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton 04/23/13 – Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide by Nicholas D. Kristof & Sheryl WuDunn 05/28/13 – Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson 06/25/13 – Main Street by Sinclair Lewis 07/23/13 – Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton 08/27/13 – Sweater Quest: My Year of Knitting Dangerously by Adrienne Martini 09/24/13 – The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom

Please bring a washcloth and 2 clothespins to hold your beads/bracelet while you work. Other supplies will be provided to complete one beaded bracelet per person.
Pre-registration is requested by calling the Library at 715-546-3391, those who do not pre-register may attend if space & supplies are available at the time of the class.
There’s an APP for that! Take a look at these helpful Apps & more!
The February 2013 issue of Smart Computing and Computer Electronics in Plain English magazine (available for check-out at the library) features a variety of Android phone applications and highlights various websites such as PDF to Speech, Skyvi, Hipmonk and Wikihow.
PDF to Speech is an Android application that lets you import PDF, ePub, TXT, Doc files and more to play them back as audio streams on your phone. Now you can listen along instead of reading – great for when you’re driving, exercising or otherwise unable to stare at a screen or document.
Skyvi is an Android app in which you use your voice to send text messages, call your contacts, post to Facebook and Twitter, find local businesses and answer off-the-wall questions. To use Skyvi just launch the app, tap the mic button at the bottom of the screen, and say what you’re looking for.
www.hipmonk is a great website to assist with making travel plans.
www.wikihow.com provides step-by-step instructions for thousands of topics.
The book Amazing Android Apps for Dummies features 180 must-have apps! Check-it out today!
