Hello, fellow licensors! As I write this note, I am grateful for the
cooler weather and the colorful leaves all around me. Minneso-
ta sure has some beau%ful seasons! We on the AMFCCL Board
are pu)ng together a fun Spring Workshop for you next May 9
and 10, 2018. One change this year is that annual membership
dues for the AMFCCL will be going up $5, from $15 to $20. We
want to be able to con%nue to provide quality speakers on rele-
vant topics, and feel that a bit of an increase in the dues will
forestall a higher registra%on cost for the workshop. You can
certainly use the membership form in this newsle6er to pay your 2018 dues, but our
Treasurer would prefer it if people paid their membership dues when registering for
the Spring Workshop. You could easily wait to pay for your 2018 membership un%l
late March/early April! And, if you are lucky enough to win a free membership at the
Workshop, you will receive a check for your dues back at that %me. Enjoy the Fall
Season, and I hope to see all of you at the October 25 Statewide Training in Arden
Hills!

Co-Applicant Reminders
A co-applicant is a licensed provider and can be left alone with the children for more than 30 days in a 12 month period. A co-applicant is equally and legally as responsible for everything to do with the child care program. The requirements to be an applicant and co-applicant are the same in regards to training, refer-ences, background study, physician’s statement, etc If you have programs with co-applicants, both of them should be receiving com-munication from Licensing staff. For example, if a co-applicant lives somewhere different than the child care address, they should be informed of all information regarding licensing. If providers are operating at provider/co-applicant status, please make sure all licensing related information is being communicated to any-one on the license. Tom Copeland recently released a blog post titled “Is There Such a Thing as an ‘Informal Partnership’?” In it, he explains how an “informal partnership” be-tween providers is not possible even though this is something that we may see as applicants come in.
CUSTOMER SERVICE NOTES
Customer Service Week is an international celebration of the importance of customer service and of the people who serve and support customers on a daily basis. Customer Service Week is nationally recognized during the first full week in October. Sometimes, as licensors, we can get too caught up in the Rules and Regula-tions of our job that we forget that we’re working with PEOPLE who some-times just need support and a friendly face to help them get to a solution. Take the time to self-examine the following customer service behaviors. Respond honestly to the statements below, and take note of any areas you may want to work on. 1. I maintain a positive attitude about my job, including my co-workers and
supervisor. 2. I maintain a proper amount of eye contact with participants. 3. I use active listening skills to paraphrase and ensure I understand the
participants’ needs. 4. I respond to participants in a way that makes them feel important and
respected. 5. I speak clearly and not in a rushed manner when I am on the telephone. 6. I respect participants of all ethnicities and backgrounds. 7. I am patient with participants for whom English is not their first lan-
guage. 8. I apologize to participants whenever our office makes a mistake. 9. I demonstrate professionalism when sending e-mails. 10. I am patient with “challenging” participants and do not take it personally
when they are upset. 11. I problem solve and offer multiple options for participants, when need-
ed. 12. I use motivational interviewing techniques to help get participants to
change their behavior. Paying attention to the above behaviors will ensure that you continue to provide stellar service to your participants!
Forms, articles, and information have been submitted by licensing workers throughout the State. Thank you for all your participa-tion in this newsletter.
