Genesis 12:1-5“12 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee

out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.”

IntroductionAbraham was called the “Father of

Faith.” When we consider his life, we will learn something about faith. He really possessed a genuine faith. But before we can see in his latter days, the faith he really displayed, let us consider his early life even from the time when God finally came to his life.

Page 4: The Life of Abraham

I. His ConversionGenesis 11:26-32“26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begat

Abram, Nahor, and Haran.27 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah

begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.

28 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.

29 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

Page 5: The Life of Abraham

I. His ConversionGenesis 11:26-3230 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot

the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.”

I. His ConversionActs 7:2“And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,” God appeared to him in

the city of UrGod revealed Himself first to us

Salvation is of the LordJonah 2:9“But I will sacrifice unto thee with the

voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.”

Page 8: The Life of Abraham

I. His Conversion1. It was God’s choosinga.God chose us, and not

we who first chose GodJohn 15:16

“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.”

b. God chose us before the foundation of the world Ephesians 1:4

“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:”

Page 10: The Life of Abraham

I. His Conversion1. It was God’s choosingc. God gave us eternal life.

John 3:27“John answered and said, A man can

receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.”

Nothing was originated from us, all things that we have came from the Lord.

Page 11: The Life of Abraham

Ephesians 2:8-9“8 For by grace are ye saved through

faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Page 12: The Life of Abraham

I. His Conversion2. It was God’s timing

II Corinthians 6:2“(For he saith, I have heard thee in a

time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)”

Page 13: The Life of Abraham

I. His Conversion2. It was God’s timing Everything in this world was planned

by God. Nothing happens by just an accident. They exist even in the fore knowledge

of God. So, our conversion was perfectly God’s

appointed time.

Page 14: The Life of Abraham

I. His Conversion2. It was God’s timingAccording to Hebrews 2:3 and 3:15-16..“3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great

salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.

16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.”

Page 15: The Life of Abraham

I. His Conversion2. It was God’s timingAccording to Hebrews 2:3 and 3:15-16.. Today is the accepted time. But for each one of us, there is an exactly

appointed time for our salvation. There are people you try to bring in the

feet of Christ and yet even until now they don’t even manifest or even experience God’s salvation. Maybe because, God’s time for thim had never come yet to thim.

II. His Calling1. It was a calling of Separation

b. Separation from family tiesIn our days, we are not to

separate literally from our families, but we need to be different and not to compromise to what they are doing, especially if it is against the Word of God.

Page 22: The Life of Abraham

II. His Calling1. It was a calling of Separation

b. Separation from family tiesOne of the hindrances in following

II. His Calling1. It was a calling of Separation

b. Separation from family tiesGod came here not to bring peace

but SWORD – which means or it symbolizes SEPARATION.

They could not easily follow Christ because of strong family ties.

Page 28: The Life of Abraham

II. His Calling1. It was a calling of Separation

b. Separation from family tiesWe should make a stand on what we

believe. Never disregard the truth of the Bible.

c. Separation to all that is within the will of God

“UNTO A LAND THAT I WILL SHEW THEE”Two-fold Separation

FROM – TOWRONG – RIGHTSIN – HOLINESS

DISOBEDIENCE – OBEDIENCE

Page 30: The Life of Abraham

II. His Calling1. It was a calling of Separation

c. Separation to all that is within the will of God

It is both negative and positive. It is separation from all that is outside the will of God to all that is within the will of God.

Page 31: The Life of Abraham

II. His Calling1. It was a calling of Separation

c. Separation to all that is within the will of GodThe land that God will give to Abraham is a BETTER COUNTRY.

Hebrews 11:8-10, 14-16“8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to

go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

Page 32: The Life of Abraham

II. His Calling1. It was a calling of Separation

c. Separation to all that is within the will of God

9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”

Page 33: The Life of Abraham

II. His Calling1. It was a calling of Separation

c. Separation to all that is within the will of GodWe don’t separate from the world and from all its sin for nothing, God commanded us to separate from all that is outside the will of God because He has a better plan for us.He knows what

is best for us.

Page 34: The Life of Abraham

II. His Calling1. It was a calling of Separation

c. Separation to all that is within the will of GodHe is going to give us a better country, that is Heaven. This world is not our home, we’re just passing through.God wants the better things for us.Don’t hesitate to obey God, you are in God’s hands.

Page 35: The Life of Abraham

II. His Calling2. It was a calling to God’s blessing

“AND I WILL BLESS THEE”It is clear here that God is the One Who will bless us because He alone is the source of all blessings.God never calls men to curse them, but to bless them. He wants us to be blessed.

Page 36: The Life of Abraham

II. His Calling2. It was a calling to God’s blessing

We need to follow God not because of the blessings but because we really love God.

John 10:10“The thief cometh not, but for to steal,

and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

Page 37: The Life of Abraham

II. His Calling2. It was a calling to God’s blessing

God’s calling is the BEST CALLING.Christian life is the best LIFE.

Page 38: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance1. Partial and Reluctant at firstGenesis 11:31“And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the

son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.”He came out but with his relatives. At first, he did not obey God completely.

Page 39: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance1. Partial and Reluctant at first

a. He brought Terah, his father, with him

b. He allowed Terah to initiate to be the leader

Terah “took” Abraham Terah means wandering

Page 40: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance1. Partial and Reluctant at first

b. He allowed Terah to initiate to be the leader

He followed God fully when his father died at Haran

Genesis 11:32“And the days of Terah were two hundred and

five years: and Terah died in Haran.”God will take away from us all the

things that hinder us for us to follow God completely.

Page 41: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance1. Partial and Reluctant at first

c. He brought Lot with him (one of the factor of his partial obedience)God wants us to obey Him

immediately and completely, so if we are not fully obeying God, let’s ask God to forgive us and be determined to follow Him 100%, in every aspect of our lives.

Page 42: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance2. By faith

Hebrews 11:8“By faith Abraham, when he was called to go

out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.”One’s faith is being tested by obeying what God is telling a person to do everything he could not understand or he does not know how to do or where to go.

Page 43: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance2. By faitha. He knew God personally

Hebrews 11:6“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Page 44: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance2. By faitha. He knew God personally He was sure that it was really God

who called him. We can fully follow God when we fully

know who God really is. Because the measurement of our

obedience is our knowledge about God.

Page 45: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance2. By faitha. He knew God personally He had deep relationship with God

and believe His Word. If you know God, it is easy for you to believe God’s Word. We can’t obey God when we are

short of knowing Him. He was convicted to follow God’s Word.

Page 46: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance2. By faitha. He knew God personally How much do you know God?

“GOD KNOWS YOU, THEREFORE YOU MUST KNOW YOUR GOD.”

Page 47: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance2. By faithb. It was by faith, because “he went

out not knowing whither he went.” It is not easy to go if

you do not know where to go. Abraham had a complete trust in

God that He will guide him all throughout his journey.

Page 48: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance2. By faithb. It was by faith, because “he went

out not knowing whither he went.” When we trust God that He is capable of leading us, it is easy to obey Him. God is not just able, but also willing to guide us.

Page 49: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance2. By faithc. It was by faith because he look for a

city that was very real to him.Hebrews 11:1, 10“Now faith is the substance of things hoped

for, the evidence of things not seen.10 For he looked for a city which hath

foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”

Page 50: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance2. By faithc. It was by faith because he look for a

city that was very real to him. We must have a genuine faith to

see the unseen and invisible things or even the things God prepared for us in the future.

Faith is looking for the things that we have not seen yet.

Page 51: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance2. By faithc. It was by faith because he look for a city

that was very real to him. We must have a spiritual eyes

II Corinthians 4:18, 5:1-7“18 While we look not at the things which are

seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Page 52: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance2. By faithc. It was by faith because he look for a

city that was very real to him.5 For we know that if our earthly house

of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:

Page 53: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance2. By faithc. It was by faith because he look for a

city that was very real to him.3 If so be that being clothed we shall not

be found naked.4 For we that are in this tabernacle do

groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

Page 54: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance2. By faithc. It was by faith because he look for a

city that was very real to him.5 Now he that hath wrought us for the

selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.

6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)”

Page 55: The Life of Abraham

III. His Compliance2. By faithc. It was by faith because he look for a

city that was very real to him.The things of heaven and the things

that God has promised must be very real to us.
