. WHAT’S NEW From Eure Pastor’s Desk There are so many words that can describe our various goals and plans for 2015. Certainly each of us within the church could find a different word to describe how we should be as followers of Christ. Faithful, kind, truthful, repentant, etc. These words and many more would be accurate to explain the character each follower should strive. During the month of January, the worship services will have a strong emphasis on servant- hood. The scheduling of deacon ordination and the pastor installation services offer an oppor- tunity for us to understand more clearly how God calls each believer to take up his/her cross daily and follow Jesus. [Luke 9:23]. I will address servanthood more in the near future, but let’s looks at the attitude Jesus de- sires for His servants. In Luke 9:46-48, His disciples eventually began arguing over who would be the greatest disciple among them. They believed since they were part of Jesus’ coming kingdom, they should figure out their leadership role. Perhaps the minister of finance was the greatest. Maybe it was the minister of war. Or maybe one of them wanted to serve in the office of Vice-messiah! Whatever the details, Jesus knew they were arguing over which of them would be the most influential, the most powerful, the wealthiest. The Lord answered their argument with an object lesson. Taking a child- weak, vulnerable, inexperienced, most likely poor- He told them that showing hospitality to one like that in His name was doing the same to Him and God who sent Him. The greatest of them would not over- look those who seem insignificant. The greatest would not seek positions of power, but surrender personal will and ambitions for the Lord. As we approach what it means to serve Christ, let’s remember servanthood – whether a simple worker or a leader- means becoming humble servants sent on mission in His name, for His purpose, for His glory. As we empty ourselves and allow the Lord to fill us with His grace and goodness, He makes us great!
