MATCHACTION

Despite a strong first half performance againstErith Town we couldn’t hold on as we slippedto a 2-0 defeat.

We started the game quite slowly but grew intoit as the first half went on, countering well andcoming close several times.

The second half almost started disastrously asErith rattled the post early on but we withheldthe pressure and came close ourselvesmoments later.

After exchanging shots for a while it wasunfortunately Erith who made thebreakthrough as they raced through andlooped the ball past Lewis Lockyer, who’d had aphenomenal first half.

We weren’t deterred though and we continuedplaying our game, passing the ball around andputting the visitors under pressure. However, our lack of a final ball punished us and Erithscored again with a tap in to make it 2-0.

Erith grew more confident and threw menforwards looking for a third but it would’veflattered them.

The final whistle blew at 2-0 and we had to feela little hard done by after such a greatperformance that we hope to take forwardsinto the following games.Sam Freebody

33 League games undefeated then Phoenix Sports'superb record finally came tumbling down at hometo 10 man Ashford United and the title race goeson. Midway through the first half Danny Lye got hismarching orders and things looked bleak for Nuts& Bolts. Eight minutes into the second half andthings looked bleaker still as Yacine Gnahorescored for the League leaders. Nine minutes afterthat though things started to look a little brighterwhen Michael Phillips levelled the game from thepenalty spot. A draw was not what the visitors real-ly wanted and the sun came out for them when Ki-eron Byrne netted the winner with a minute left toplay. The next episode in the title saga will comeon Tuesday when Ashford host Sevenoaks Town ina game they must win because if they lose or drawthen Sports could win the title on Wednesdaywhen they go to Erith & Belvedere.Final Score: Phoenix 1-2 Ashford

Erith & Belvedere were helped by a SevenoaksTown own goal but still failed to win at GreatnessPark today. Mathematically they can still win thetitle but only if the top two lose every game andthey win all their remaining games. Joe Minterscored the opener for the Deres on the stroke ofhalf time but there was still time for Danny Powellto equalise before the ref blew for the break. ThatOG came in the 69th minute and the Deres just hadto hold on for the last 20 minutes but The Oaks'Tom Ridley had other ideas and he burst the Deresbubble with 12 minutes left on the clock.Final Score: Oaks 2-2 Deres

Fisher took the lead at home to Tunbridge Wellswhen Luke Haidarovic netted in the 5th minute. Nomore goal action until the second half when FemiAkinwande scored 5 minutes after the break for 2-0.Haidarvic had the last word when he scored with20 minutes left to play. The Wells stay in 4th placeand Fisher go into 15th.Final Score: Fish 3-0 TWells

Corinthian stay in 6th place and Holmesdale stay14th even though the Dalers won this encounter2-1 at Gay Dawn Farm. Tom Menditta scored the

only first half goal for Holmesdale after 24 minutesbut Michael Hagan grabbed the late equaliser just2 minutes before the end and it looked like a drawwas on the cards. However, Chris Wright scoredthe Dalers winner in time added at the end of thegame.Final Score: Hoops 1-2 Dalers

Cray Valley PM move up a place to 7th after beat-ing Lordswood at Badgers Sports Ground. AlwayneJones hit the lone goal with 20 minutes left to play. The Lords stay in 16th place.Final Score: Millers 1-0 Lords

Crowborough Athletic stay in 10th place despitewinning at home to Rochester United. Regan Payneput the Spartans in front on the stroke of half time.Sam Carrington's second half brace, on 66 and 75minutes, were enough to give the Crows the spoils.Spartans stay in 18th place.Final Score: Crows 2-1 Spartans.

Top form side Deal Town stay in 11th place evenafter winning at home to Lingfield. In fact the Lin-gers went ahead after 4 minutes when Jake Daviescored but Andy Miller levelled the game in the24th minute. Charlie Walsh gave the hosts a 2-1half time lead with his goal in the 34 minute. Sec-ond half goals from Rene Rivera (51) and ConnorCoyne (70) made certain of the win for Deal. TheLingers stay in 17th place.Final Score: Deal 4-1 Lingers

And finally, Erith Town take the bragging rights af-ter they beat Croydon at the Croydon Arena. DanWillis scored for the Dockers just after the half hourmark then Ben Mendele made it 0-2 three minuteslater. In the second half, Tristan Toney pulled oneback for the Trams but it was too little too late andthe Dockers take 3 very welcome points. However, with just 2 games to play and with 5 points tomake up this could also be too little too late.Final Score: Trams 1-2 Dockers

THE VISITORS

The Fish can trace their history back to 1908,when Michael Culliton, headmaster of the R.C.Dockhead School, Bermondsey and a Mr Nor-man Potter set up a club to provide sportingand recreational facilities for underprivilegedyouths aged 12 upwards. Based for a time inMitcham, the football club returned to its rootsand moved in to the Surrey Docks Stadium inRotherhithe in 1981. A period of success fol-lowed with a number of seasons in the topflight of non-league football, the Conference, and two appearances in the FA Cup 1st Round.

The good times didn’t last, and Fisher slippeddown the divisions. The 2000s saw success re-turn to the club, funded by a new owner, whomoved the team out of the Surrey Docks Stadi-um so that it could be redeveloped. The devel-opment never got off the ground butground-sharing at Dulwich Hamlet FC Fishermoved up through the leagues and reachedthe Conference South. The credit crunch sawthe owner hit financial difficulties, however, and at the High Court on 13 May 2009, FisherAthletic were wound up.

A meeting in Bermondsey in May 2009 saw agroup of supporters vow to continue the clubas a supporter-owned side. Fisher FC made

their debut in the Kent League in 2009-10. Theclub are continuing to pursue a return home toBermondsey with support from SouthwarkCouncil and Supporters Direct.

In July 2013, plans were announced to returnFisher to a site on Salter Road, just across theroad from the Surrey Docks Stadium, as part ofa wider development in the area. Planning per-mission was granted in May 2014, and subjectto successful funding applications the Fish hopeto finally move home during 2015.

Manager

Dean Harrison was appointed Fisher manager inDecember 2014, joining from Beckenham Townwhere he was assistant manager as they wonthe League Cup and Kent Senior Trophy in 2013-14. An experienced and very well-regardedcoach, Dean looks to play fast-paced attackingfootball. Dean is supported by coach Tom Roltand goalkeeper coach Jason Birchill.

Max Rothwell, previously with NorthernPremier League side Lancaster City, has beenused centrally recently though can also play ina wide role. Ali Musa is an experienced cam-paigner in the middle of the park, and new sign-ing Ikechi Eze is also available.

Youth team graduate Kieron Campbell has plen-ty of ball skills and a penchant for a spectacularlong range shot, having recently returned froma knee injury. In wide roles, Jordan provides

pace and trickery while Troy Abbey has re-turned from injury to first team contention thisseason. Youngster Kieran Scantlebury provides afurther wide option. Keanu Williams is anotheryoung player who can play on the wing or up-front.
