Lenny's great escape
By Emily Boddy
Lenny decided to
run away. He had
eventually
planned a route
in case he was
seen. He was
missing his mum
so much because
her daily letters
had stopped
coming. His plan
was to cut
through the
colourful
gardens, into the
orchard, through
a hole in the
hedge and across
the field into the
road.
He carefully closed the door.It
creaked behind him. The bright
moon tracked his shadow sharply
along the silent paths. Faintly the
church bells echoed as it struck
one. Foxes pounced around in the
distance as soon as Lenny was
approaching the wonderful
garden. Silently Lenny scampered
along the paths. His feet made a
crunching sound from the gravel.
Birds were singing and chirping
beautiful songs in the trees. There
were raspberry beds swaying
from side to side. Tall enough to
hide behind. Eventually he broke
into a run. He had reached the
orchard.Lenny weaved from tree
to tree, silently as he crouched
low behind his suitcase. There
was a sudden thought of whether
or not he should carry on but it
was to late he couldn't give up
now. Then he stopped short he
could hear a rumble from the
other side of the hedge. Lenny
was so scared that he started to
panic.
Lenny decided to carry on through the
glaring eye .He saw birds fluttering into
the trees for the night. Shining stars, like
jewels,glimmered and shimmered above
him. There were shadows, like monsters
creeping up on him. In the hole he could
hear footsteps squelching in the mud a
mile away. A pitter-patter of puddles
when he glided through them. All of a
sudden he could smell of berries upon
high branches. His heart was thumping
under his t-shirt. Lenny was trembling at
the edge,so petrified that he was shaking
with fear. Nervous enough to collapse into
a pile of skin and bones, something was
there in front of him?
Looking glum, he stood in the road. Sounds drifted from over the valley. Whenever
Lenny turned he could hear growling like a Lion or see twinkling like a Unicorn. But
he thought it was his imagination. Magically,it was like a heavy boulder was pushed
aside from him because two glooming eyes and a shape like mum, appeared on the road.
Lenny was amazed to catch such a wonderful sight, "Mum!" he cried. Shocked to see
her, Lenny dashed over. He was confused to how she got there. His first question was
"How's dad?" Mum was so delighted to say perfect. Tears were dropping down both
pale faces. Lenny was relieved to be with mum knowing dad would be fine.
