Polly Gregali from St. Louis, led the very informative workshop. We are working to have an Ambassa-dor (or two) in each congregation. If your congregation does not have an Ambassador, please consider filling this important posi-tion. Our District Convention is on November 7th and 8th at St. John’s in Topeka. Pastor Mark Frith will be our International LLL Repre-sentative and Banquet Speaker. Please mark this on your calendars and plan on joining us. We need individuals that are willing to become leaders in the Kansas LLL/LHM. Those of us that attend the board of governor’s meetings are advancing in years and the Lord has called some of our regulars home to be with Him in heaven. (I am the youngest and my hair is all gray.) You can do this! Ephesians 3:20-21 says: “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all genera-tions, for ever and ever! Amen.” God has so much He wants to do through you. You can do more than you ever imagined. Please say yes if you are asked to be on the ballot for a position. Grants for Ministry Funding Lutheran Hour Ministries is excited to par tner with your Affiliated Group in your local, regional, or international outreach efforts. As an Af-filiated Group you are eligible to apply for a grant to help you in your efforts. Grants will be given only for projects that involve outreach to the local community, the region, and/or the world. Preference will be given to grant requests that make use of Lutheran Hour Ministries' resources. Affiliated Groups may apply for a grant any time during the year (see quarterly deadlines). Grants are available for up to $3,000 ($50 minimum) and are awarded quarterly in March, June, September, and December. The total amount of the grant will not exceed the total budget for the project. Affiliated Groups are allowed to earn one grant per calendar year. Once you apply (click for grant applications), a committee will review the applications and determine the distribution of the grants. Groups re-ceiving grants will be required to complete a follow-up evaluation form reporting on how the funds were used and to what extent the project goals were met. President’s Message Tim Voelker Dear Friends in Christ, Praise the Lord! He has truly blessed the Kan-sas LLL and Lutheran Hour Ministries. There are great things happening in Kansas and throughout the world. Thank you for being a partner in this wonderful endeavor. Thanks to all of you that have helped the Kansas LLL/Lutheran Hour Min-istries reach our project goal last year and we hope you are excited about achieving this feat again this year. By the grace of God we were able to assist in hosting a recognition banquet for seminary stu-dents that were about to receive their first call. We let them know about all the resources LHM provides and encouraged them to partner with LHM in spreading the Gospel as they begin their ministry as Pastors. We were also able to provide financial assistance for the LHM float in the Rose Parade. Financial assistance was also given to the Argentina Ministry Center. They are our Dis-trict’s designated mission country. We also gave money for Overseas Correspondence Courses. These allow people receive the Word of God in places where it may not be easily accessible. We were able to provide $28,500 of financial aid to students that are preparing for full time Church Work. We pray that the Lord will touch many individuals through these students for many years to come. Yes, the Lord has truly blessed the Kan-sas LLL/LHM. Through your many fund raisers and individual gifts, we are making a difference in the world. Again, thank you to all the groups and individuals who helped support the District Pro-ject. 2015 KANSAS STATE FAIR The 2015 Kansas State Fair will be held on September 11 – 20 at Hutchinson. The LLL/LHM booth will celebrate its 30th year of sharing the Gospel at the Fair. A worship service led by the Rev. Scott Snow (Holy Cross, Wichita) will be held at 10 a.m. on the first Sunday, September 13, in the Bretz and Young Law Arena. The fair committee extends a huge thank you to all the volunteers and congrega-tions that provide time and religious material. Portals of Prayer (2015 dates), Sunday school/vacation Bible school material and other religious themed items are handed out by the volunteers. Stop by the booth and plan to attend the worship service while visiting the Fair.
LHM Ambassador The Lutheran Hour Ministries Ambassador is a volunteer that’s a liaison be-tween his or her congregation and LHM. They will keep their congregation in-formed on what programs LHM has to offer to help with their outreach and mis-sions. LHM provides information about current and upcoming programs by e-mail. Ks Grants and Ministry Funding
The Kansas District LLL/LHM will assist with Ministry Outreach in Kansas. By resolution at the Nov. 2014 con-vention LLL/LHM Kansas will provide funds, from bequest monies received, annually up to $7500 plus earnings, until the bequest is expended, for ministry outreach in the follow-ing categories: Financial Aid to seminarians preparing for Pastoral Ministry, Lutheran Hour Sunday and children’s involvement programs, College Campus Ministry pro-grams, Kansas State Fair Booth and Worship expenses, Int’l LHM servant event team expenses, and Ministry expens-es in Argentina, Kansas LHM country. Additionally Churches, through their LLL ambassador or evangelism/outreach committee, may apply for up to $100 annually to publicize outreach items to their communities utilizing LHM materials, until $1,000 is awarded. From the Regions Region 1—Zone 3—Hope Lutheran, Shawnee— On March 29th, Zone Chairman Paul Steinke of King of Kings, Gardner, and Regional Repr. Richard Schrum provided handout material listing the evening schedule, zone officers, upcoming district events, this year’s district project, listing where The Lutheran Hour is found on radio and web sites of: http;//www.lhm.org, and http://www.lhm-ks.org for Kansas news. The buffet turkey meal was prepared and served by “The Men of Hope” a LHM Affiliated group. Ken McCosh, Kansas LHM Ambassador Coordinator and Co-Editor of the LLL/LHM Reporter reviewed National (yr. 1917) and KS. District beginnings Oct. 9, 1939 at St. John - Alma, Kansas. In 1992 the International LLL established Lutheran Hour Ministries as the overall identity for its many outreach (now over 20) programs. Donors that support LHM fund these programs along with maintaining 34 Min-istry Centers reaching into over 50 countries with the Gos-pel message. A hand-out was provided that gave more info about Int’l and Kansas activities and events. The evening speaker Jerry Williams, Hope LHM Ambas-sador serving with Assoc. Alan Glinnsman, reviewed the activities at Hope Lutheran that provide awareness of LHM, such as; maintaining visual displays, LHM topical booklets in the Narthex, and with donation material. They emphasize LHM Sunday and put a key LHM item in the church news-letter each month. He spoke about the LHM app that can be loaded on your smart phone for daily devotions, and “The Lutheran Hour” so you can listen while driving or walking. His talk provided time for open discussion on obtaining ideas to increase awareness and support for what LLL/LHM has to offer. Region 3—Zone 7—St. Paul, Clay Center—Has sched-uled Mission U training MU-101 – Equipping to Share: Everyday Evangelism on October 3, 2015 from 9 a.m.—2 p.m. Lunch provided by freewill donations. Learn to over-come fear and to effectively share your faith with three rela-tionship models. To register click on or go to http://www.claycenterlutheran.com/ click on October 3 Mission U 101. Alert your Pastor, staff, evangelism/outreach, elders, as-similation, other pertinent committees, and congregational members that have a heart for sharing Jesus. Register and bring a carload or two. Zone 8—Luke’s Lutheran, Manhattan—The Spring LLL Rally was held May 3, 2015, the meeting was called to order
by Pres. Ken McCosh. Zone pastoral advisor Rev. Terry De-Giovanni led the Invocation. Pledges were given to the Ameri-can and Church Flag followed by the welcome from Carroll Hackbart of St. Luke’s, with response by Pastor DeGiovanni with an invitation to the Fall Rally at St. Luke’s Wheaton. Minutes and treasures report accepted and approved as writ-ten in the program. Attendance, 25. Group activity reports: Bill Strauss—Immanuel Junction City conducts 4 meetings a year. Their club being small ask for donations to support the District Project, Project Connect booklets and Christmas event. Bill Strauss represented LLL at the Wetzel Cabin open house in the Junction City Historical Park. Merle Lietz—Trinity McFarland Fellowship Club annually conducts a pancake feed to raise funds for the District Project, each morning during the school year they host coffee and hot drinks in their Fellowship Hall for neighbors and children waiting for the school bus, will do a Smart Money, Smart Kids program and they purchased a new refrigerator. Carroll Hackbart—St. Luke’s conducts a pancake feed, Advent & Lenten devotion booklets, Christmas Caroling, participates in Halloween Trunk or Treat and cooks brats at a congregation fall picnic. Wheaton member Nila Haefner worked as a Petal Pusher on the Rose Bowl Parade Float in Pasadena. Election of Officers: Board member Phil Theel and Secre-tary Treasurer Jim Rosander were elected. District LLL/LHM report by John Johnson, spoke of the links available in electronic documents like the LLL Reporter. He encouraged looking at Kid’s Crossing, Video for Shut-ins, a new program, currently testing in the Florida/Georgia District, on “how to” conduct congregational outreach and many addi-tional resources available via the internet. Ken McCosh led the closing. Soups and desserts were served. Ken McCosh won with his Chicken Alfredo soup, Liz Beikmann won the dessert division with Rhubarb Crisp. The Rally offering of $130 plus food raised $39.70 totaling $169.70 sent to the district project leaving a treasury balance of $25. Barbara Hackbart, Secretary Treasurer Zone 8—St. Lukes, Manhattan—Work Day, an annual pro-ject of LHM Men’s Network, found twenty individuals trim-ming bushes, digging dandelions and weeds, mulching, clean-ing the patio, working on playground improvements and clean-ing windows. Kansas District Project Praise the Lord! Due to returned financial aid when several stu-dents did not reregister and returned funds from the discontinued Lutheran Family Retreat, funds available from the 2014-2015 dis-trict Project exceeded our goal of $33,000. That allowed us to in-crease our 2015-2016 school year financial aid from $26,000 to $28,500 for the 23 Kansas students attending a synodical school of higher education to become a full time church worker upon gradua-tion.

AMBASSADOR WORK-SHOP
On August 8th, 2015, the Kansas District LLL Board hosted an Ambassador training event at Christ the King Lu-theran Church, Salina. Polly
Gregali, constituent relations manager for central and south US was our present-er. Polly covered the need for every congre-gation to have at least one ambassador, qual-ifications of ambassadors and the need to know about LLL/LHM programs, events, activities and resources to be shared with members of our congregations. These “things” include various personal contacts we have, printed materials, mass media events, Bible study opportunities and the internet which can reach to the end of the world. There is literally something at LLL/LHM for everyone.
National Fishing Tournament This Nat’l event ends Sept. 6th with two Kansas fisherman holding the led at press time in two categories; Tim King - Freshwater Striper caught at Clinton Spillway – Lawrence He was also a weekly leader for another Striper at Clinton Spillway Keith Jopp – Crappie caught from a Kan-sas farm pond – Cheney He was also the winner in two other weeks, Blue gill/Perch/Sunfish and non-fish category a Mussel cov-ered Rock, both at Cheney Lake. Jeff Gaona a two week winner for catch-ing Crappie at a Kansas Lake Another weekly win for a Freshwater Striper caught at a Kansas Lake. David Savings, an early season weekly winner for a Freshwater Striper caught at Melvern Lake. Chuck Veatch twice weekly winner for Freshwater Striper from a Kansas Lake.

Steven Frederick Hanschu, 62, of
Emporia, Kansas, died on April 10,
2015 at Newman Regional Health,
Emporia. Steven was born on May 26, 1952
in Herington, Kansas, the son of
Theodore and Aileen Bird Hanschu.
He grew up on a farm near Ramona
in north Marion county, graduating
from Centre High School in 1970. He attended
Kansas State Teacher’s College, now Emporia State
University, in Emporia, receiving a B.A. in 1974
from Kansas State Teachers College, Masters in
Library Science in 1976 from Emporia Kansas State
College and an M.S. in History in 1978 from ESU.
In the spring of 1972, he began working as a student
assistant in William Allen White Library until he was
hired fulltime in 1979. Over the past 36 years he has
served in various positions in public services.
Steven was known in the community for his love
of Emporia history and advocating history
preservation. In 1978 he founded Emporians for
History Preservation, which later merged with the
Lyon County Historical Society. He served on the
historical society Board of Trustees for 34 years.
Steven also shared his knowledge of Emporia history
by serving on the Board of Directors for Emporia
Main Street and the Design Committee, the Emporia
Granada Theatre Alliance, and Plumb Place. He also
served on the Board of Directors for the Emporia
State Federal Credit Union, Emporia Friends of the
Library, and the Kansas Preservation Alliance.
Steven was the author of ESU’s 150th celebration
book, Emporia State University, and the coauthor of
Emporia a history of the community.
Steven’s greatest joy was in serving his Lord. He
was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church.
He was baptized into Jesus Christ as an infant and on
April 3, 1966 he publicly confessed Jesus as His Lord
and Savior through the rite of Confirmation. He
served his Lord and his Church on various
committees, offices, the Board of Elders for 34 years
and was chairman of the Harvest Home Festival. He
was also active in Lutheran Hour Ministries serving
as District President. He was also presently serving
on the Kansas District LC-MS Board of Directors. In
2001, he completed work to become a credentialed
deacon in the Kansas District providing pulpit
assistance to congregations in the area when needed.
Steven also enjoyed gardening and refinishing
furniture.
Steven is survived by his wife, Beth Krehbiel, who
he met at William Allen White Library. Married on
May 30, 1981, they enjoyed nearly 34 years of
happiness together. God blessed their marriage with
two sons, Matthew and his wife Amanda of Lenexa,
Kansas, and Jared of Kansas City, Missouri. He is
also survived by his mother, Aileen; sister, Linda
Bradley and husband Wayne of Topeka, Kansas;
brothers-in-law, Kenton Krehbiel and wife Shelia of
Colby, Kansas, and Kevin Krehbiel and wife Sue of
Inman, Kansas; three aunts; one uncle; and numerous
nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service was held at 10:30 A.M.,
Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Messiah Lutheran
Church, Emporia. Burial followed at Memorial
Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.
The family received friends Tuesday evening,
April 14, 2015 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at
Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia.
Memorial contributions to Messiah Lutheran Church,
ESU Scholarships, or the Lyon County Historical
Society may be sent in care of the funeral home.
CHENEY - Hillman, Dean M., age 76, farmer,
passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015. Services,
10 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015, at St. Pauls Lutheran
Church with Rev. Joseph Seifert officiating.
Interment followed in the St. Pauls Lutheran
Cemetery. Survivors; Sister Mildred Seyfert of Pratt,
KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial
funds; St. Paul's Lutheran Church of the Lutheran
Hour. Wulf-Ast Mortuary was in charge of
arrangements.
Dean was active in his church, as a young man
participated in Walter League, and went on to be
active in the Kansas District Lutheran Layman’s
League. He served LLL in many capacities over the
years attaining Vice-Presidency of the Kansas
District.
