What is it?

• There has been stories about the Loch Ness Monster since the dark ages.

• In 565 ad St Columba was meant to see the monster on his way to see a Pictish King.

• There was an attack on one of his party and St Columba is supposed to have told the monster to return to the water, which it did.

Monster Hunts

• There has been several hunts to find the monster in Loch Ness.

• In 1992, a team of experts used hi-tech sonar equipment to do a full scale search of the loch.

Loch Ness Monster on TV• In 2003 the BBC did the most extensive search of

the loch by using 600 separate sonar beams and satellite navigation.

• There was nothing found.• Lots of films have been based on the Story of the

Loch Ness monster.• They include the 1970 film ‘The private life of

Sherlock Holmes, ‘Scooby Doo and the Loch Ness monster’ and ‘Water horse, the legend of the deep’.

• There has also been a lot of TV shows including a Classic Dr Who episode (with Sarah Jane)!

Loch Ness Monster in Advertisements

• Toyota, Orange, Vodaphone and Kit Kat have all used the Loch Ness Monster in their advertising.

• In the Toyota advert the monster grabs a Car from the shores of the Loch, disappears under the water and then reappears later, spitting it out.

the Loch Ness Monster. • Some think that it may be elephants

taking a swim.• Others believe it is a marine dinosaur

called a plesiosaur.• Some think that the bubbles are

dead birds, otters or vegetation rotting on the bottom of the loch.
