LUMINARIA DI SAN DOMENICO 2018 From July 30th to August 4th

The long night of the Luminaria

Monday – July 30th, 2018 This year’s theme: FIRE, AIR, WATER and HEARTH

In this unique night, the atmosphere is magic. There will be art, music, culture and traditional cuisine in an

eventful night Praiano inhabitants will be, once again, the main characters of the event: they will install art

installations with candles all over town: streets, walls, gardens, balconies and squares. Further information

Tuesday July 31st, 2018 – from 10.45pm Piazza San Gennaro

La Compagnie la Salamandre presents “Le songe de Prométhée” / the dream of Prometeo Prometheus, who steals the fire from the Gods to give it to men under the punishment of Zeus, has often

symbolized the conflict of progress and freedom against the power, the challenge to impositions.

FIRE evokes passion, love, risk and is the main character of festivals and cultural traditions of the entire

planet. Burning flames, twisting torches: the possibilities of this magical element to enchant the audience are

endless and surprising. The show of the French company, number one of this particular genre, have been

presented to the four corners of the planet.

Protagonist of the 2018 edition of the Luminaria di San Domenico, the famous French company will give life

to a show full of energy, exciting and involving all our audience.

1 – 2 - 3 August 2018 – from 9.30pm Piazza San Gennaro

The sounds of the bells of the Convent of Santa Maria a Castro and the church of San Gennaro, together with

the choreography of the “RAGAZZI DELLA LUMINARIA” will open the 2018 Luminaria and light the thousands

of candles decorating the piazza. The 3d video mapping based on the architecture of the church will drive

the guest in a virtual journey where flames, fire and colors will be the main characters.

During the evenings the French “Compagnie la Salamandre” will entertain with shows of fire and flames.

Shows at 10.30pm - 11.30pm

The San Gennaro Parish will organize a tasting of typical local sweets and cakes (1-2 August).

Every evening, from 1 to 3 August, in the Church of San Gennaro, the triduum of preparation: 7.30 pm Holy

Rosary, at 20.00 Holy Mass.

“Music for the Royal Fireworks”

A show in a show, several sounds and colors will blend together. The " Music for the Royal Fireworks " of Handel, will be a suite of lively movements performed by the Nuova Scarlatti Orchestra of Naples in perfect

harmony with the fire works show of the Pirotecnica Nazionale will insure unique emotions and rare

suggestions. At the end the blessing from San Domenico.

To prevent technical problems access to Piazza San Gennaro will be allowed only until 10pm
