years. She loved to send clippings frommagazines and newspapers to people. I would get about a half a dozen a year- and she did it with many folks!

Dan Carpenter, Sr. wrote this aboutMary’s passing: She was one of thesteady people at Ojibway for over 40summers. Always willing to give ahand but how she detested lighting andthunder. She backed Rod all the wayand it was so great they returned toKeewaydin for many summers. Ageneration of Ojibway guests will recallhow great it was to enjoy Mary'scompany and her help in makingDevil’s Island so welcoming to all. We were sorry to learn, down here inBermuda, of Mary's passing; she willbe missed by so many.

her mother’s watchful eye in the1950’s now require new foundationsand plumbing upgrades. They aregetting done!

The lodge, Kishkadeena, requiredserious attention, and wascompletely renovated this year. For25 years Sandy has led Ojibwaywith strength, vision, tenacity andvigor – and the place is sparklingbecause of her commitment. Thanks for 25 years, Sandy, andhere’s looking to 25 more!

White Pine Down

Behind “Southern Comfort” aka the Director’s Cabin stood a huge andvery old white pine. This summer, it was still standing tall but no longera live white pine and in a very precarious position behind the cabin. Jason Pigeau took on the job of getting it down, safely and away fromthe cabin. By counting the rings in the tree stump we determined it tobe a tree that was well over 100 years old!

Here the audience who watched Jason’s great chain sawing feat are: L to R SandyChivers, Sam and Jason Pigeau, Erin and Sage Parker, John Applegate, Sarah andAmelia Ingersoll, Noe and Louise Pigeau and Bruce Ingersoll.

Testimonial to Ojibway

Rob Emlen writes: “I had alwayswanted to see Temagami. AtDunmore fifty years ago we heardthe stories about wilderness trips inthe Canadian north, and lastsummer the time had come for myfamily to stay at Ojibway Lodge. Ofall our happy experiences there atthe end of August, I think my mostprofound impression was of thequiet. I was always aware the campwas on an island, but the experienceof having to take a boat trip to getthere emphasized for me city life.We didn't lack for good and

vivacious company in the dininghall at Ojibway, but at night hearingonly the wind in the pines was aspecial pleasure. And the reversewas true. When we put ashore afterthe trip back down the lake to thetown dock, it took us some time toget accustomed again to all thenoise.” At Dunmore from 1958-1960 Rob Emlen was called Spider. He is no longer called Spider.
