The Lord’s Day April 22, 2018

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable

to God, which is your spiritual worship . Romans 12:1

Prelude

Welcome & Visitor Information

Opening Music “I Stand Amazed”

- Choir

*Call to Worship Psalm 47:6-8

Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises! For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm! God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.

*Hymn of Approach—No. 381 “Brethren, We Have Met to Worship”

Prayer of Adoration and Confession

Assurance of Pardon Romans 5:6-8

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

*Affirmation of Faith Westminster Shorter Catechism Questions No. 2 & 3

Q2: What rule has God given to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy him?

A: The Word of God, which is contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, is the only rule to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy him.

Q3: What do the Scriptures principally teach?

A: The Scriptures principally teach what man is to believe concerning God, and what duty God requires of man.

*Hymn of Faith “Leaning On/ ‘Tis So Sweet to Trust”

(Ushers come forward on last verse)

What a fellowship, what a joy divine, Leaning on the everlasting arms, What a blessedness, what a peace is mine, Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms, Leaning, leaning, leaning on the Everlasting arms.

Oh, how sweet to walk in the pilgrim way, Leaning on the everlasting arms, Oh, how bright the path grows from day to day, Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms, Leaning, leaning, leaning on the Everlasting arms.

What have I to dread, what have I to fear, Leaning on the everlasting arms? I have blessed peace with my Lord so near, Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms, Leaning, leaning, leaning on the Everlasting arms.

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him! How I’ve proved him o’er and o’er Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust him more!

Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to take him at his word Just to rest upon his promise, And to know, “Thus saith the Lord.”

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him! How I’ve proved him o’er and o’er Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust him more!

O for grace to trust him more! O for grace to trust him more!

Prayer of Dedication & Presentation of Our Tithes & Offerings

Offertory

“Come Ye Sinners Poor and Needy”

(Children ages 4 years to 2nd grade may be dismissed to Children’s Church. All children will be escorted back to the sanctuary by their teachers at the end of the sermon.)

Come, ye sinners, poor and wretched, Weak and wounded, sick and sore; Jesus, ready, stands to save you, Full of pity, joined with power. He is able, He is able; He is willing; doubt no more.

Come ye needy, come, and welcome, God's free bounty glorify; True belief and true repentance, Every grace that brings you nigh. Without money, without money Come to Jesus Christ and buy.

Come, ye weary, heavy laden, Bruised and broken by the fall; If you tarry 'til you're better, You will never come at all. Not the righteous, not the righteous; Sinners Jesus came to call.

Let not conscience make you linger Nor of fitness fondly dream; All the fitness He requires Is to feel your need of Him. This He gives you, this He gives you, 'Tis the Spirit's rising beam.

Lo! The Incarnate God, ascended; Pleads the merit of His blood. Venture on Him; venture wholly, Let no other trust intrude. None but Jesus, none but Jesus Can do helpless sinners good.

*Doxology - No. 731

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below: Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host: Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, which art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Sermon Wholehearted Worship

“Devotional Life” - Corey Koon

*Closing Hymn

“The Old Rugged Cross”

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross, The emblem of suffering and shame; And I love that old cross, where the dearest and best—For a world of lost sinners was slain.

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, Til my trophies at last I lay down. I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it someday for a crown.

O the old rugged cross, so despised by the world, Has a wondrous attraction for me; For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above—To bear it to dark Calvary.

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, Til my trophies at last I lay down. I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it someday for a crown.

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true; Its shame and reproach gladly bear. Then He’ll call me someday to my home far away—Where His glory forever I’ll share.

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, Til my trophies at last I lay down. I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it someday for a crown.

*Benediction

*Threefold Amen

*Postlude *The congregation stands

Carolina PCA Philosophy of Worship:

At Carolina Presbyterian Church, we desire to worship God in a manner that is both glorifying to God and edifying to our congregation.

To glorify God, we seek to worship him with excellence, with an attitude of reverence (considering God’s holiness) and celebration (considering God’s grace), with a Christ-centered focus rooted in reformed theology and founded on the word of God.

To edify our congregation, we seek to worship God with some stylistic variation that reflects some of the preferences of our multi-generational church and community. We seek to employ these different styles in a way that promotes love and unity within the same worship service.
