Paul lists nine virtues or graces, which make up the “fruit of the Spirit” — the lifestyle of those indwelt and energized by the Spirit. The phrase “fruit of the Spirit”

indicates that the qualities listed are not the results of observing a legal code, but are attributed to the power of the Holy Spirit.
