MORNING WORSHIPThe Silent Meditation upon Entering the Sanctuary

T H E L O R D ’ S D AY b M AY 2 8 , 2 0 1 7 b 1 0 : 0 0 A . M .

• Congregation, please stand as able

So the point, therefore, at which you and I start is this: we say, ‘This is no ordinary book; this is the Word of God.’ Do we show that we realize that and what a privilege it is by

reading it, studying it, delving into it, spending our time praying over it? We should not just quickly read over a few verses as a matter of custom in the morning

before rushing off to more important things. Rather, we should say, “Here God is speaking to me.” If we really believe that the Bible is God’s direct word to us, we would not spend

more time each day reading the newspaper and other things than we do seeking to understand and apply the oracles of God.

D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones on God’s Word

• The Ascription of Praise Eternal Father, Strong to Save melita

Eternal Father, strong to save, Whose arm doth bind the restless wave, Who bidd’st the mighty ocean deep its own appointed limits keep: O hear us when we cry to Thee for those in peril on the sea.

O Trinity of love and pow’r, our brethren shield in danger’s hour; from rock and tempest, fire and foe, protect them wheresoe’er they go; and ever let there rise to Thee glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

The Christian Greeting

The Anthem All Who Dwell in the Shadow of the Lord Z. Randall Stroope Chancel Choir At the first light of day, Lauda, laudé! When the sun reaches noon, Lauda, laudé! And then at sunset, Lauda, laudé! Or at the midnight Lauda, laudé! Refrain: All who dwell in the shadow of the Lord, find a refuge and fortress; Nation, village or faith of a small child, home they find in Him. May we sing, sing for joy, Lauda, laudé! May our days all be glad, Lauda, laudé! May we have wisdom, Lauda, laudé! May we have truth, Lauda, laudé! Refrain Plagues and serpents of the dark, pestilence that stalks the night, They who harm, who destroy, those who spread fear and terror, But those who make the Lord most high their refuge and their dwelling, No fear, no harm, no foe will come near your tent, No shame, no death, no evil consume or destroy. Lauda, laudé! Refrain

• The Recessional Hymn O Sacred Head, Now Wounded passion chorale

O sacred Head, now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down; now scornfully surrounded with thorns, Thine only crown; O sacred Head, what glory, what bliss till now was Thine! Yet, though despised and gory, I joy to call Thee mine.

What Thou, my Lord, hast suffered was all for sinners’ gain: mine, mine was the transgression, but Thine the deadly pain. Lo, here I fall, my Savior! ‘Tis I deserve Thy place; look on me with Thy favor, vouchsafe to me Thy grace.

What language shall I borrow to thank Thee, dearest Friend, for this, Thy dying sorrow, Thy pity without end? O make me Thine forever; and should I fainting be, Lord, let me never, never outlive my love to Thee.

Be near when I am dying, O show Thy cross to Me; And for my succor flying, Come, Lord, to set me free: these eyes new faith receiving, From Jesus shall not move; for he who dies believing, dies safely, through Thy love.

• The Benediction of God’s Grace and The Congregation’s AMEN

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, descend and rest in your hearts until the day breaks and all these shadows flee away. AMEN.

• The Postlude Toccata in D Minor J. S. Bach
