VERSATILE ALKYD EMULSION TECHNOLOGYTO SOLVE YOUR LOW VOC COATING NEEDS

Low VOC is still a driver for coatings applications with the ultimate goal to be near zero VOC. Water reducible alkyds have been used for years for lower VOC applications, but are limited in how low of VOC can be formulated plus poor shelf stability due to hydrolysis. Alkyd emulsions can bridge the VOC and stability gap.Alkyd emulsions are versatile for a range of end use applications. Long oil alkyd emulsion are used for wood stains. Medium oil alkyd emulsions are used for high gloss trim enamels. Chain stopped alkyd emulsions are used for industrial

Speaker Bio:Michael Knight received his BS in Chemistry from Western Illinois University in 1978 and completed his MBA at Wayne State University in 1994. After graduating with his BS, he started a 20 year career with BASF Automotive OEM Coatings in product development, leading product development teams for all coating layers In 1998, Mike started working for McWhorter Technologies, now Polynt Composites. He has worked as an Application Chemist, a Technical Market Specialist, an Account Manager, and, now as the Coatings Technical Assistance/Applications Group Leader. Since 1984, his major focus has been on waterborne resins and coatings including polyester dispersions and alkyd emulsions.

Doug lives in the Seattle area and his territory includes Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Western Canada. A 30-year professional in the chemical distribution business, Doug Emory brings a wealth of experience and customer knowledge to his new role at Dowd and Guild Inc. Doug spent the last 11 years as an Account Manager at Univar, covering the Pacific Northwest territory. Prior to Univar, Doug spent 19 years with Ashland Distribution. His professional affiliations include the Northwest Chemical Association and the Pacific Northwest Society for Coatings Technology. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration-Marketing from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. “Doug is a welcomed addition to our technical sales team, and we’re looking forward to Doug’s contributions to our business,” said Patrick Kelly, President of Dowd and Guild Inc. Doug is assuming responsibility for the territory that had been previously managed by Nick Motto. Nick will be transitioning to a new territory encompassing Northern California, the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern Nevada.
