Today on the show, Queen Latifah welcomed the Lost Boys from Sudan. This extraordinary group of men began their journey in 1987 after a civil war drove an estimated 20,000 young boys from their families and villages in South Sudan. Most just 6 or 7 years old, they fl ed their homes to escape death or induction into slavery or the Northern Army. They walked more than a thousand miles through lion and crocodile country, eating mud to stave off thirst and starvation. Wandering for years, half of them died before reaching a Kenyan refugee camp. The survivors of this tragic exodus became known to the world as the Lost Boys of Sudan. Through the next fourteen years of loss and suffering, these remarkable young men pursed their educational goals in the UN refugee camp. In 2001, 3,300 Lost Boys came to the United States seeking peace, freedom,

The Lost Boys, now men, who have resettled in the United State have since established The California Lost Boys and Girls Foundation (CLBGF), a non-profi t organization that fosters community-based assistance to The Lost Boys of Sudan living in San Diego County. The California Lost Boys and Girls Foundation aims at improving the lives of Lost Boys of Sudan and the larger community of Southern Sudanese in San Diego, throughout the country, and abroad. The project is a forum where supportive citizens, organizations and institutions unite, working together to help the Lost Boys actualize their goals and dreams. The ultimate dream held within the project is for the San Diego Lost Boys to obtain and manage a freestanding Lost Boys Center. The San Diego Lost Boys Center, then, will be the physical location for various meaningful programs. Some of the programs currently being designed respond to the Lost Boys’ individual and collective needs. Programs in place at this time include, among other things, educational scholarships and dental care funding.

Want to support The California Lost Boys and Girls Foundation? Join their 1st Annual 5k Walk-A-Thon on Saturday, January 3. Participation is free and each participant will receive a Walk-A-Thon Shirt to be worn on the day of the event and participants will be given a special event “donation bucket.” The Lost Boys and Girls of Sudan walked over 1,000 miles as children to fi nd safety. The California Lost Boys and Girls Foundation hopes to get enough participants to show the Lost Boys and Girls we stand in solidarity with them by collectively walking the same distance as they did. During the event donations will be accepted for the Lost Boys Foundation then “DELIVERED” to the Lost Boys Foundation on the day of the event. 100% of the proceeds raised for the event go to the Lost Boys from Sudan.

The 1st Annual 5K Walk-A-Thon will be held at St. Michael’s Church (15546 Pomerado Rd, Poway, CA 92064 commencing at 10:00AM.
