BEsT FEaTurE sTory award The Norway experienceWhen Wasco Energy expanded its global footprint to Norway for the Polarled Project in 2013, the company seconded Malaysian employees to a new facility at Mo I Rana in northern Norway for a career-enriching experience. Wasco staffers Teoh Chuen Seng, Mohd Aizad Kamarol, Adrian Goh, and Mohd Hafiz Mohd Isa, writing in the first person, shared their stories in the January 2016 issue. Giancarlo Maccagno, the CEO of Wasco Energy, accepted the award on their behalf.

BEsT Csr sTory award a Family affairIn the January 2016 issue, we profiled the Siddharthan Care Centre, a beneficiary of the Malaysian Petroleum Club’s annual charity golf tournament. The article, written by Lalita Gomez, highlighted this children’s home, founded with good CSR intentions by a shipping company which eventually ran aground. The home was literally left to sail on its own but it bravely stayed afloat thanks to the caretaker S.K. Manimaran who never left the helm.

MosT INspIrINg pErsoNalITy awarddr lim Min TeongHe’s an international authority on enhanced oil recovery and the recipient of 2015’s SPE Distinguished Membership award. He spends every day with a burning desire to do more, including learning and teaching and being a mentor to younger engineers so that Malaysian companies can retain Malaysian talent. In our July 2015 issue, we profiled the godfather of technical excellence.

BEsT youNg wrITErs awardHakim rahman & sarah rahman, a flood of compassionIn the October 2015 issue, we published the firsthand account of a brother and sister pair from Petaling Jaya who dropped everything they were doing and loaded a pick-up truck with food, clothes and blankets. They drove straight into the floodwaters of Kelantan in January 2015. They distributed those supplies to the poorest villages to which little or no help had come, despite the nation-wide flood relief initiative. They are both in their twenties and both work for Cekap Technical Services Sdn Bhd. He is a project executive and she is an interior designer.

BEsT pHoTo awardEsham salam, The right kind of leadershipRESOURCE magazine does much of its storytelling with photographs, really good photographs, usually shared by the people we interviewed. In the July 2015 issue, we featured an entrepreneur best known for his work in fluids management. Esham Salam was profiled in the CEO Talk segment in which he spoke about the need to expand internationally while always knowing where our roots are. With the story by Theresa Manavalan, we carried a photo of Esham standing in front of his family home in Batu Pahat built in 1860 by his great-grandfather. What made this photograph outstanding was the way the self-confidence of an international business professional was captured in a most traditional setting.

MosT MEMoraBlE pErsoNalITy award dato’ MB Hashim, listening to storiesIn the April 2016 issue, we featured a man who is known to everyone and whose vast experience in the industry is almost legendary. Writer Jacqueline Pereira accurately captured his larger-than-life pioneering spirit which still resounds today as emphatically as when he set up Malaysian LNG in 1978.
