    Introduction

The Maths Faculty at The Magna Carta School uses MyMaths as part of our vast array of resources. One of the primary uses of MyMaths is to allow students to do their homework in a secure online environment. The benefit of setting homework online is the fact that the student can access the homework and revision lessons as many times and whenever they want in order for them to succeed. For this online system to benefit all students the following must be adhered to:

    • Homework will be set weekly in accordance to the homework timetable. Students will have one week to complete it.

    • MyMaths is merely one option for homework and students should expect other forms of homework, like worksheets, instead of online tasks as well.

    • A minimum of 40% (or target set by class teacher) must be achieved for every homework piece. Failing to do so without seeking help from the class teacher before the due date of the piece will result in a sanction.

    • Not having a computer or internet access is no excuse for incomplete homework. The school have a number of computers that are available for students to complete their homework during break, lunch or after school.

This guide will provide a short outline on how to use MyMaths effectively and efficiently not only for homework, but for revision purposes as well.

In addition to the main school login, each student will receive their own personal login and password at the start of the academic year. This should be recorded in their planners on the relevant page. MyMaths allow students to navigate through the site by choosing topics first by strand, followed by topic before it has been broken down into lessons and their corresponding homework tasks. This means students can facilitate their own independent learning by revisiting online lessons on topics that had been covered in lessons and completing a homework task to test their knowledge at the appropriate level.

In addition to the online lessons and homework tasks there are also 4 Booster Packs on MyMaths under the ‘Revision and Assessment’ tab on the home screen. Each pack includes lessons and online worksheets that students can do at home. These packs are intended to help students cross key borderlines during their study of Maths.

    The packs are:

    • Grade Booster Pack: Grades 3 and 4 • Grade Booster Pack: Grades 4 and 5 • Grade Booster Pack: Grades 6 and 7 • Grade Booster Pack: Grades 8 and 9

    Loggingon

MyMaths can be found either through a search engine, such as Google, by searching for ‘MyMaths’ or by typing the website address, www.mymaths.co.uk, into the address bar. A screen will appear that will require you to enter a login and password.

This requires the school login and current password.

The school login is magnacarta. The password changes every year and this will be issued to students at the start of the academic year. The password will also be displayed on posters around the school.

A separate, personal login and password will also be issued to each student at the start of the academic year to enable them and their teachers to track their homework results.

Once a student has logged in, their Home page will change to look like the one below. From here they will be able to access tasks that had been set by their teacher as well as online lessons, booster packs (click on the ‘Revision and Assessment’ tab). Students can also complete tasks that haven’t been set by navigating through the library.

This will open the Library to enable students to access other lessons.

This will open the online lesson for revision prior to completing the homework.

All tasks that had been set by the class teacher will appear here. This will indicate date set along with how many days left to do it.

The class teacher might leave a specific message for students here.

This will open the homework task.

    SavingMyResults

It is imperative that the student select ‘Summary’ once both pages has been completed as their results may not save if this action has not been completed.

Once ‘Summary’ has been selected the following page will appear. If the student is happy with their result they can close the page, however, if they want to improve their score they should click ‘Try again’.

    Press ‘summary’ to save scores

    Prompt to select ‘summary’

    You can always try again.

Student should aim for amber (40%) or a green (70%) face.

Student can do the task as many times as they want. The best score will also be recorded.

    Results

Once a task has been completed, the student can close the summary page then click on ‘My Results’ to display all results from all tasks that had been attempted. You can also find a summary of your results in ‘My Feed’.

If the task does not appear in ‘My Results’ and is still displayed under the ‘My Homework’ tab, then it has unfortunately not saved and has to be attempted again. This doesn’t happen often, but please double-check to avoid unnecessary stress on the day the homework is due.

Click on ‘My Results’ to view all results from attempted tasks.

Student has the opportunity to rate this task to let the teacher know how they felt about it

    Re-dohomeworktasks

From time-to-time students would like to re-do their homework tasks. Whether it be to improve their results or perhaps they want to revise the topic for a test or to gain more confidence. This can easily be done through the ‘My Results’ page by clicking on the relevant task and then launch the homework again. Every time they try to do the same task the questions will change. This means that they cannot memorise the answers and thus have to work them out every time.

Student has the opportunity to re-do this task at a later date.

    FrequentlyAskedQuestions

Q: My child cannot access MyMaths from home, how will they be able to do their homework?

A: All students have access to MyMaths at school through the school’s computers. They are able to use these computers during break, lunch and after school. The school also have a homework club that is run after school in the library. Please ask the librarian for more information on this.

Q: My child forgot his login and/or password, can they still do their homework?

A: Yes, however, it will not save their result and therefore they should print out the results page and take it to their teacher for recording purposes. They should ensure that they see their teacher as soon as possible to give them their login and password and to make sure it is recorded in their planner.

Q: My child had been absent on the day the homework was given, do they still have to do it?

A: Yes. All homework is given to students according to the homework timetable. Therefore the homework will be set each week and the student has a week to complete it. If any student was absent on the day the homework was set it is their responsibility to complete it and hand it in on time. If they did not understand the work they should go through the online lesson or speak to their teacher BEFORE the due date.

Q: My child does not understand the homework set. Can they just leave it?

A: No, any unattempted homework or homework with a red face will result in a sanction. It is the student’s responsibility to ask for help BEFORE the due date, NOT on the day the homework must be handed in.

    Q: Can I print homework?

A: Yes, any homework can be printed by just right-clicking whilst on the relevant page and selecting the ‘print’ option.

Q: The page just hangs after I’ve clicked ‘Summary’ and says ‘saving scores’. Did my homework save?

A: Give it a few minutes. If it still hangs and hasn’t changed to the page described on page 8, then your homework has not saved. You can either print this page and take it to your teacher, showing your results clearly OR you have to refresh the page, wait a couple of minutes and attempt to do your homework again.

You will notice that if your homework shows a result on the ‘My Results’ page, it has saved. If the task still appears on the ‘My Homework’ page, it has unfortunately not saved and has to be redone.

    Q: MyMaths doesn’t load.

A: From time to time the MyMaths website gets too much traffic. When this happens, wait a couple of minutes and try again later.

Q: Can MyMaths be completed on a phone or tablet?

A: Yes. MyMaths has recently converted their site to be compatible with most phones and tablets, however, this is still very new and may not always work on all devices in which case your child will have to use a computer to complete their homework.

If you have any other questions relating to homework, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher via email or telephone.
