1.Preliminary Camping to Sammu City
The Mayor and the city council Chairman have visited Sri Lanka and
agreed with the Sri Lankan Minister of Sports. (Dec 17, 2014)

2.Invited Sri Lankan Olympian to Sammu City
Invited Ms. Sriyani Kulawansha, former Olympic Athlete to the city
and she gave a presentation at two of junior high schools as well for the
locals, which was part of the agreement decided during the visit to Sri
Lanka (April 13 to 19, 2015)
※ Women’s 100m hurdle runner at Barcelona, Atlanta, and Sydney Olympics.

Invited JICA trainees who are visiting Japan from Sri Lanka to Sammu City
Homestay・Cultural Exchange(July 25 to 26, 2015)

4.Boccia Experience Event
A tournament at Hasunuma Sports Plaza invited players from Japan’s
national team as guests.
5.Rice Paddy Art Project
“Nearest countryside to the world” as a catchphrase, expressing the
hospitality by Rice-paddy art.
This year’s theme is “The Crane of Gratitude”

6.Exchange program of youths between Sammu City and Sri Lanka
Sending and inviting students (according to the basic agreement)
Aiming to improve the understanding and communication ability for
different cultures in order for developing human resource that can adapt
to the society which is globalizing. Sammu City will have exchange programs
between Sri Lanka which is the country this city will host the preliminary
camp.
(1)The program to send youths to Sri Lanka from Japan
・From July 23rd to 30th , 2015 6 nights and 8 days
・8 students who go to junior high schools or high schools in Sammu
City
・Visiting: Embassy of Japan, Ministry of Sports, Parliament
JICA volunteers’ activities, Local junior high
school and high schools to have cultural exchange,
Japanese Companies, and World Heritage Sites

・ October 22nd to 29th 2015
・ Two Sri Lankan National Junior high school and high school
students
・ Visiting: Local Junior High School and High School, Homestay,
World Heritage Site, etc

7.Inviting Ashita heno Michi(Road to Tomorrow) 1000km longitudinal Relay
Requested to the organization in Tokyo Prefecture to change the course
to go through Sammu City which is the location of the Tsunami Disaster
occurred May 11th 2011.
On August 6th, 2015, at Hasunuma Beach Park and Orai Hasunuma (Tourist
station) passed on the relay sashes.

8.Inviting elementary and junior high school students to suggest ideas
on what Sammu City can do for the Olympic and Paralympic Games to make it
more special.
142 ideas have been subscribed by students from elementary schools and
junior high schools

9. Established Sri Lankan Products Section at Michino Eki, the roadside
station “Orai Hasunuma” (Sep 19th, 2015)
It was remodeled to incorporate a display of specialties from Sri Lanka
such as, tea, coconut oil, curry and etc. Introducing to tourists from both
inside and outside of the prefecture and which would endeavor to encourage
a spirit conducive to Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
10. Opening Event for Matsuo Community Center, Senshinkan (Oct 3rd, 2015)
Senshinkan, Matsuo Machi, Sammu City, is the place for people to gather
and prosper. Students from Sri Lanka Nippon Educational and Cultural Center
performed Kandian Dance at the Opening Event at Matsuo Community Center.

11.Sending Sports Gears(according to the basic agreement with Sri Lanka)
Collecting sports equipment from elementary schools and junior high
schools. Sending them to Sri Lanka.

12.World record visualization project
Promoting Olympics and Paralympics for people visit the city hall by
displaying both male and female long jump world record at the main entrance
of the city hall. (December.25, 2015)

13.Primary registration as the Host Town for Sri Lanka (January 26th, 2016)
The Exchange Program between Sri Lanka was approved by the Japanese
Government, and Sammu City has been registered as a Host Town.
【Host Town】
The aim of being a Host Town is to spread economic growth and international
exchange all over Japan. The Japanese Government supports local
authorities’ projects.
14. Japanese Ambassador of Sri Lanka visited to Sammu city.
Japanese Ambassador of Sri Lanka Mr. Suganuma Kenichi visited to Sammu
city. He has visited the Naruto General Sport Park and the Road side
station at Orai Hasunuma with Mayor and city assemblyman.(Feb 19, 2016)

15.Library Program to provide information about Olympics
To set up a section at libraries with for a collection of books dedicated
and related to the Olympics, Paralympics, and Sri Lanka (the country the
city is hosting).

16.Top Athlete Sports Class Program
The purpose of this program is for children/students to grow more
interest in sports and aim for reaching higher level. We have invited
Mr. Dai Tamesue, who has the Japanese record on 400m hurdles and he
taught lessons to children. (2016.2.28)

17.Sri Lanka Olympic Chairman visited to Sammu city
Sri Lanka Olympic Chairman Mr. Maxwel De Silva visited the Naruto
General Sport Plaza and the Roadside station at Orai Hasunuma.
Mayor and the City assemblyman had a meeting and they inspected the
stadium. (April 30, 2016)
18.Japan Sri Lanka Ambassador visited sammu.City
Professor Dammika Dissanayaka the ambassador of Sri Lanka arrived
Sammu city and had a meeting with mayor and city assemblyman.
After that visited the Sammu South Junior School and had a conference
there. After the conference had a get together with members of sammu global
center.(May 13, 2016)

23.Sri Lanka Nippon Educational and Cultural Center (SNECC) Visited
Sammu City
Youth Exchange Program between Sri Lanka and sammu city.‘7 Members
arrived from SNECC (1 University Student, 4 High school student and members
in SNECC )
Homestay at the houses in the City – It developed the bond and
understanding between two countries. (Sep 18 – 19, 2016)

24.Sri Lankan Festival 2016
2016 Sri Lankan festival held at Tokyo Odaiba “Symbol Promenade Park”
Sammu City and Sammu Global Center Promoted their activities conducted
until now between Sri Lanka. (Sep 24 – 25, 2016)

25.International Exchange Effort “Sammu Global Center”
Sammu city has registered as the Host town for Sri Lanka in the Olympic
& Paralympic program 2020. And they have conducted promoted programs for
encourage to Sri Lanka.

26.Hon. Minister of Sports of Sri Lanka visited Sammu city.
Sri Lankan sports minister Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara came to sammu
city and Inspected Hasanuma Sports Plaza and Naruto General Sports Park.
There he adressed the citizens in Sammu and thanked them to backup to
Sri Lanka. (Oct 23, 2016)

27.Members of the City Council in Sammu City visited Sri Lanka
Sammu City has registered as the Host Town for Sri Lanka in Tokyo Olympic
and Paralympic program in 2020. Because of that we had basic agreement about
conducting preliminary camp.
For study about the culture, and history about Sri Lanka and to know a
deeply discription about this. This team visited to Sri Lanka and held the
administrative inspection for carry on government affairs for this
preliminary camp,
・From (November 6th(Sunday)to November 10th (Thursday)2016,
3nights and 5days
・Chairman of City Council in Sammu, Vice Chairman,5members of the City
Council, Vice mayor, and 3officers in Sammu City、have participated.
・Visiting: Ministry of Sports , NOC, Schools, Embassy of Japan, JICA
office, Parliament Sri Lanka

29.School for a cheering and supporting for participating country for
Olympic and Paralympic program in 2020
The elementary school or junior school in Sammu City hopes to support
one country or a division in that country.
According to that theme they engaged in study about their culture and
language of their host country

30.Srilankan high school and junior high school students visited to Japan
for an educational tour.
The training program for visit to japan has conducted by Japan Foundation
for high school students who study Japanese language in foreign countries.
As an item of that 13 Srilankan students came to Sammu City.
